sand down those rifle brackets and get a gallon of plasti dip at the auto parts store. once their roughed up dip them up to the point where they connect into the wall unit and you'll have a durable rubber coating that isn't the cheap rubber cap that's on them now. yeah its some work but in the end it'll be worth it, id get a panel for just those when dipping them and you can hang them on it if you're careful in between coats to dry. maybe even line them up and dip them all at once on it? not sure if it would work out but in a shallow plastic tub you might be able to dip them all at one time and not doin them one by one which would take a while. just my thoughts to your issue with them i though of when you said it. as far as pistol mounts get a 3D printer or if you know someone with one they can probably make you custom pistol mounts that would be better, myself having a printer id just make what i needed and call it good.
I have used this peg board in my garage and it's ok for tools But, like you say, I'd love to use it for guns but their proprietary hangers are all metal and the rubber add-ons look dumb to me. Have you found any better hangers from another company that will fit? Have you had any better ideas about wrapping them? I saw one YT advisor wrapped them in electrical tape. That looked better but it's kind of thin. Anyway, any advice?
I dipped mine in flexseal and that helped a lot! but I still use some of the rubber add-on padding for stuff like wood stocks that I don't want dinged up
