WALL-E, short for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-class, is the last robot left on Earth. He spends his days tidying up the planet, one piece of garbage at a time. But during 700 years, WALL-E has developed a personality, and he's more than a little lonely. Then he spots EVE, a sleek and shapely probe sent back to Earth on a scanning mission. Smitten WALL-E embarks on his greatest adventure yet when he follows EVE across the galaxy.

I never noticed this detail until everyone started pointing it out. But what made Eve fall for Wall-e was he taught her is that their is more to life than following your directive. While her job of finding the plant was majorly important destroying everything that moves was really unnecessary. He taught her trust, patience, showed her the wonders of life, and how to express love by holding hands

We see at the start of the movie that Wall-E’s been collecting things for 700 years, and I think the moment Wall-E started feeling like he had a connection with Eve is this scene where he’s showing her all the weird stuff he’s found, then he starts getting all touchy feel-y about her. In Eve’s first appearance, she immediately starts flying around, sort of dancing and being free. And I think the moment she really connected with Wall-E was the scene after the escape pod explodes, when she flies around in space with him. After that, she looks at her memories and gets all the same kinda touchy feel-y about him.

This movie is one of the best examples of “show, don’t tell”, and the visual storytelling is god-like in this movie O.o
@jameswalker6864
@jameswalker6864 Год назад
@@Howlingburd19 "Show, don't tell" is not a universally necessary criterion to produce great art, neither in cineme nor in literature (contrary to what some literature teachers preach). The movie "Before Sunrise" is a masterpiece and was critically acclaimed, and it only consists of two characters constantly talking. The whole movie is dialogue. In fact, it's a trilogy. and "Before Sunset" and "Before Midnight" also received critical acclaim. The most praised movie by Woody Allen is Annie Hall, which is known for the strength and originality of its dialogues. And if we go to literature examples, there're a lot of "tell, not show" in novels. After all, writers are called story-tellers, not story-showers. Gabriel García Márquez' masterpiece "One Hundred Years of Solitude" is almost exclusively telling, not showing. There're no dialogues and everything that occurs is explicitly told in the beautiful language of magic realism. Also, the most memorable passages of Tolstoy's magnum opus "War and Peace" are long descriptions of the characters' feelings by telling, not showing. Tolstoy explicily tells (not shows) the characters' feelings. And he's, like Márquez, acknowledged as a literary genius. Dostoyevsky also tells a lot, including telling about the inner world, thoughts and emotions of the characters, as well as their appearance. Conclusion: in all situations of life, we should be skeptical. We should also be skeptical of dogmas of literature teachers. While "show, don't tell" is quite effective here and there, it's by no means absolutely necessary to make it the norm,. In art, freedom of technique should prevail. If everybody were to follow the "show, don't tell" rule, cinema directors and writers would be like sheeps with no originality.
@Howlingburd19
@Howlingburd19 Год назад
@@jameswalker6864 I don’t think you understand what “show don’t tell” means. It means properly developing your characters and managing to make them feel three-dimensional beyond just dialogue. You cannot simply “tell” the audience that your characters are complex, you have to “show” that, you have to present that (and of course you can do that through dialogue, but you want to do actions/behaviors as well). In WALL-E’s case, “show don’t tell” couldn’t have been done any better! Probably my favorite example of phenomenal “show don’t tell” is Michael Corleone from The Godfather. His development and transformation into a monster gangster is some of the best in cinema history. And why is it so good? Because they showed his transformation PERFECTLY! In contrast we have movies like the Star Wars sequel trilogy; a fan of that trilogy can tell me all they want on how their characters are complex but it’s pointless because in the movies they’re never *shown* to be complex.

Specifically, There will be no other movies like WALL•E. Or other science fiction like WALL•E. This movie has the genre sci-fi (science fiction), Mostly set in the future, With robots, and more futuristic things like time travel. But do you recognize most of sci-fi movies are just gigantics robots fighting from a danger like Transformers or Pacific Rim? Or mostly getting trapped in a spaceship trying to find a way out from a Alien trying to kill the main character? Like the movie Alien? Or travelling went back in time accidentally and getting back to the future like the movie Back To The Future? But WALL•E, is truly something special, It's only about a little machine robot, only doing his job for the over 700 years in the future. And feeling lonely, But went found his love named EVE, And saving the entire humanity by found and saving a plant, or the last plant in Earth. Without even having these kind of Alien or Evil robots stuffs. And it's impressive how we can actually understand how WALL•E's story is, With a few words of the robots, But much more emotion that they've got with also doing such movements. And the opening, With only a single song, That is unsettlingly fitting and explaining what happened the Earth and the whole plot of the story. There will be no other sci-fi stuff like WALL•E. I hope my english are not bad since it's not my native language...

WALL-E is my favorite movie of all time for a number of reasons. Something that always stuck out to me as a child is that although Eve has a feminine voice, she’s not built as a particularly female robot. There’s nothing about her design that evokes femininity to me, she’s just more slick and new looking than wall-e. Almost like she was designed by Apple lol. Growing up, I was never the most feminine girl. I had short hair, wore “boy clothes,” and was into robots and dinosaurs. Seeing a character like Eve was so cool to me as a kid. Favorite Pixar movie of all time. I don't know what it is, but every scene where Wall-e and Eve are together just pulls my heartstrings in a way that ive never experienced in any other movie. I literally choke up everytime they are together. Its artistically and cinematically beautiful, and the emotion presented is so much stronger when little to no words are said. This movie is so underrated. I love it.

Rewatching that one scene where Eve Shuts Down and then Wall-E quickly starts to panic and starts to say Eve's name having the realization of being alone again Is Just sad because I can feel where wall-e Is coming from being the only one on earth along with his pet cockroach for alot of years must be tough that's why this will always be an all time forever amazing classic and the animation will always be fantastic
@lulaz0o
@lulaz0o Год назад
There are people who even say that Wall•E is a simp, but they must understand his situation... he lives almost 700 years alone, he barely has contact with a cockroach with which he does almost nothing, and his companions died in his face probably... who would not feel despair at losing the only means of communication after so much time alone and abandoned? whether it is Eva, or another living being, he would feel very bad and sad, because loneliness invades him... although being a robot with a directive, it does not seem to affect him to an extreme that he has depression or desires to kill himself.

What makes these two work so much is how well they complete each other. When Wall E gave Eve the light bulb, she made it light up. When he gave her the Rubix cube, she solved it. When he gave her the plant, she was able to complete her directive.

I don't think the romantic type of love is special. And I am started to think that the romantic type of love isn't real. I mean about more than half of romantic couples either break up with each other or divorce each other, while most platonic best friends remain friends until death. I think that having a platonic best friend is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse is. Having someone who's like a sibling to you is a lot better than having a romantic partner or spouse. Also, you are more likely to be much more closer to someone who's like a brother or sister to you than you would be with a romantic partner or spouse. People tend to fight with their partner or spouse a lot more than they do with a platonic best friend, and you never fight with your best friend the way you fight with your partner or spouse. Partners and spouses are just temporary. If you break up or divorce them, it's hard to go back to them. With your platonic best friend, you're going to make things work, because they are your best friend, they are your go to partner. It's always easier to make amends with them than it is with a romantic partner or spouse.

@@Butterballsballs Platonic relationships and romantic relationships may be two entirely different things, but that doesn't mean they are equal when it comes to the amount of love given in them. The love in platonic relationships seems to be way stronger than the love in romantic relationships is since platonic relationships are not fragile like romantic relationships are. Also, platonic relationships also seem to be a lot more intimate and comfortable than romantic relationships are. Platonic love is one of the most purest forms of love there is, while romantic love is one of the least purest forms of love there is. Most people seem to be a lot more comfortable around their platonic best friends than they are around their romantic partners or spouses. A platonic best friend is one of the best things you could ever have. A platonic best friend can be someone you trust the most, and they can be your confidant and coach. People tend to trust their platonic best friends more than their romantic partners, and that's a fact. The concept of romantic love and romantic relationships seems to mostly be a man-made thing.

It's amazing how these characters have individual personalities expressed physically, that are entirely their own, while still remaining recognizable enough for us to understand---no real "shortcuts" taken to make them more human or relatable, we simply understand them because these are two characters who through their own physicality are able to express themselves as such. The fact that this was a feature-length film where this mode of interaction/communication was essentially its major focus and selling point is amazing, and I think that, as a piece of animation and art, it is truly Pixar's greatest work.

How many things has he had that he's accidentally broken just not knowing something about it, and to be absolutely let down it doesn't work anymore. That one tape was his favorite, so I can imagine there were other items like it.
