Retired NS locomotive engineer here. The major freight railroads' greed is beyond imagination. They don't care about the public, their employees or their customers. They don't care about safety. I have firsthand knowledge of these things. I was injured on-the-job several times.

We often now have to accomedate corporate interests rather than do the right thing. Many laws are 3 times as long as they need to be to make room for all kinds of circumstances and exceptions. I think we should have simple laws that just say that certain things are not allowed, period.
No, it's actually because of the creation of massive amounts of 'fake' money out of thin air in the last 3 or 4 years. Inflation, unless there is a genuine shortage of something, (like in the oil crises of the 1970's), is almost ALWAYS the result of excess fiat money creation.

Thanks Mr. Sander for all of the good things and the bill passed for the poor and working citizens . I'm retired and I wished the social security living would increase a little more it is a king so long to increase only $10 -20 a month. It's just so hard to live on pennies and nickel ..

And despite having 16 years of Presidents, often with congressional majorities, not a peep from Dems about rolling back any of these "1980's moderate Republican" policies. Reaganomics, it's enactment, defense and expansion has been and remains a bipartisan project.

As a European ex traindriver myself, I wholly agree. The job I did was actually the job of 3 people a few year before I started. A "combi function" they called that. Normally I was a Shunter, a Wagon Inspector and a Train Driver. Now I had to do everything myself, sometimes using remote control. It was hard work, 24/7 in 3 shifts. And pay was baely more than minimum wage. I'm not able to work anymore now due to cancer and other health issues. But out of all the things that I can't do now anymore, working for the privatised railroad is the thing I miss the least.
Part of a constitutional amendment against bribery & corruption should be to get all representatives and all judges out of the stock market. Congress shouldn't be a place you go to get rich. We the People.

It was supposed to be a rhetorical question but 1950s and 60sAmerica (70-94% top income tax rate) came to mind as well as the Scandinavian countries, and much of western Europe....Obscene wealth of he few leads to obscene poverty of the many, although often times that poverty is exported to "sh-t hole countries".....I know I am preaching to the choir here, but please don't be fooled by these folks. They have given up on the enlightenment, and want to concentrate all the wealth and power in their hands, and turn the rest of us into serfs/peasants in a sort of neo-medieval theocratic monarchy under their Orange King!
My grandfather was ‘rich’ by any standard, and did not own a car.. he rode the rail cars, 70 miles to downtown boston, every day of his working life,and he ran the largest law firm in Boston. My father didn’t use a car, yet walked to the bus and subway, everyday to work in the same law firm. My brother adored trains model sets. His best bud, did a career of driving trains. I live in the woods, with train tracks on the edge of town. We get no play from trains, they seem to want nothing to do with us , as people.

Corruption, ineptitude, authoritarianism, impunity and the quality of our representatives are all just symptoms of a bigger systemic problem. And the system is this. We have a financial system which sits above our governments. In a debt based global economy the financial systems fund governments, which in turn makes governments subservient to these financial systems. If governments can keep borrowing, they can keep the system running, without having to worry about productivity. Which in turn has run up massive deficits. Problem with this system is that the money short circuits the economy and becomes capital movement directly from the government to the financial system bypassing the citizens who end up paying for it with taxes. Cycle through this over and over again and the people get poorer and poorer and the governments becomes more and more dependent on the financial systems that fund them. Hence the drop in quality of representatives who now represent the interests of the financiers rather than the people that elected them. Hence the authoritarianism and the corruption. The issue lies in the relationship between government and the financial system. Therefore who we elect to break this cycle of poverty cannot be a status quo neo lib proponent. This is financial cognitive dissonance. Economic Growth means nothing to people who are bypassed by the system This is why with 6% growth the people in Bangladesh are rioting This is why in India with 8% growth Modi is losing support. This is why in the US, UK and Europe protests are occuring on misdirected outrage on immigration, when in fact this growth bypasses the majority and has created governments which look after the interest of the financial systems over the interest of their own electorates. So what do we as citizens need to do? We need to elect people who believe again in government for the people and an economy for the people. Right now the only political movement that addresses the issue are the progressives.
