What difference does it make? -Shouldn't the important thing be whether if the amount light being emitted matches the specs?
@EEVblog2
@EEVblog2 Месяц назад
Yeah, but I have no way of measuring that accurately. And if the measurement is 15% off the datasheet value, that's a worry.

@@EEVblog2 I see the data sheet has different lumens depending on the colour temperature. Maybe the 32.6W is for the highest lumens, that the wattage is the max of the three colour types in the range and meant to be used for reference for supply installation.

@@EEVblog2 If I recall correctly, you have a lux meter? If you have an LED light with a lumen output rating you can trust to be reasonably accurate, then you can do the ceiling bounce test, or wall bounce, whatever works for you. Basically making a room a giant integrating sphere. White walls/ceilings would be best. It's obviously not all that accurate unless you spend an unreasonable amount of time calibrating the setup (with known light sources) but in my opinion it's good enough for quick relative comparisons. Heck, you could just compare the two different strips. Since the lower power strip wattage matched the spec, perhaps assume it's lumen output matches the spec as well. Do the bounce test with the lower power strip and then see how much the reading increases with the higher power strip. Edit: Doing that, you'll know the higher power strip lumen output in relation to the lower power strip. Throw in measurements of some other lights with output ratings that you could trust and you could work out what the strips actually produce with "good enough" accuracy. Could be an interesting video.

Specmanship, likely only going to be that on one with the coldest white colour, almost a blue light. But that type probably also had a 5 hour life in testing, but marketing got that figure while design went and redid them to get longer life at lower power output. hope you are cleaning that backing area with some solvent and a light sand with 1200 grit waterpaper before sticking the strips down, and a wipe again before sticking, as the thermal adhesive does not do well long term with the residual release agent and paint solvent left on the surface. Needs almost clean room surface prep, or you will get hot spots and delamination with time,

Nice to see the Matrix PSU in action!

Not if you hear the fan pulsing up and down, it has a firmware fan control problem

@@EEVblog2 so I heard! I hope it's a fix within reach of the manufacturer?

Hi. Can you make a review and teardown on a rigol dp2031 ? ❤😊

I think they're expecting you to run them off a constant current/power LED driver (like the common Mean Well XLG for example), the ones you showed previously are weird, as if it was just a dumb cheapo 24V DC supply. edit: nevermind those are supposed to have the current limiter on board? RIP If you want really high quality LED strips, Cutter Electronics down in Melbourne has an excellent selection. One of the rare cases where we get access to the good stuff in Australia lol. I use the Nichia Optisolis LED series for my art desk, it's museum-grade lighting hahaha.
@EEVblog2
@EEVblog2 Месяц назад
Nope, watch the main channel video. This stip has a constant current driver on board and designed to be powered from a constant voltage 24V supply.

I would be more interested in Lumen per Watt actually ... If the Lumen is up to spec and the Watts less, it's better in my opinion.

did you measure the voltage at an entry point at the strip ? did you try increasing the voltage ?

Does the selected color temp affect its draw?

Datasheet doesn't say that.

Maybe they should also write how many lumens per meter.
@MrZetor

I'd say 28W/m @

Maybe look at the LEDs with a thermal imaging device? Could be some LED is drawing less current as it is heating up and thus limiting it for other LEDs in the strip too?
@EEVblog2
@EEVblog2 Месяц назад
With 12 different parallel strips, one being down isn't goign to be the source of the problem. Also, measurements on two different strips confirm the same thing, so it's a design issue.

Piss poor! Is it even a 3oz PCB?

I got a refund once on some 12v AC/DC LEDs from Amazon for exactly this issue - the funny thing is that the power isn't really what we care about but it's much easier to measure than the light output.
