This November (2018), the sluice gates were opened to let water from the River Roach into newly landscaped lagoons on Wallasea Island. 2018 has seen the creation of 269 hectares of new coastal lagoons and marshes as part of the Wallasea Island Wild Coast project, thanks to funding from Viridor Credits and Enovert Community Trust. These habitats, which have historically been lost from large parts of the Essex and UK coastlines, will become a haven for wildlife including wading birds and wintering ducks and geese.
