WALKING FOOT COMPARISON: BERNINA VS JANOME Walking foot, even feed foot, dual feed foot - whatever you call it, I'm going to be comparing a couple of them in this video. I'll be looking at a Bernina walking foot as well as the Janome one that came with my Janome Horizon Memory Craft 9400 QCP.

I also have both of these feet with the Bernina 1630 and the Janome Continental M7. Another great feature of the Janome walking foot is the ability to change the "shoes" to use for different stitches.

I have the Janome 9400 and absolutely love the machine and the dual-feed foot. Thank you for describing the quarter inch markings, I had not figured that out yet (duh). I have watched several of your 9400 tutorials and learned more than from the manual. Thanks, and keep quilting.

I use my walking foot all the time with my Elna - although I don't sew quilts it's invaluable to use with knits and slippery fabrics like silk. Thanks for another great video Kim :)

Fir the Janome 9400 the Accufeed system you are demonstrating has 5 different soles that can be exchanged for that foot. The walking feet on this particular foot are metal and not plastic. There is one sole which is specific for 1/4 inch with a gate and quarter inch markings for ahead of the needle. In a Janome 1/4 past or behind the needle is on all of the needle plates. If you use the 1/4 piecing foot with the single needle stitch plate and the right hand piecing function in the quilting section stitch #2 you will have the most accurate piecing and use if your walking foot throughout your quilt top assembly. There is also an open toe sole fir this foot and a stitch in the ditch sole for this foot.

Hi Laura: Thanks for the information on the walking foot. The foot that I have for my Janome 9400 is a plastic/metal combo - may be a bit different in different countries. I'll have to check out the stitch and foot combo that you advised for piecing. Always something new to learn with this machine ;)

you can fit a quarter inch foot on the bottom of a Janome Accufeed foot. The feet clip off the bottom of the Accufeed. So you don't have to measure it. This has a flange which is the same as the Janome ordinary quarter inch foot.

Kim, I also have a Bernina as well as Janome Horizon. Both machines came with walking foot. I enjoy using them most of the time when binding/quilting (with walking foot). Didn't need to buy them as extras. I like the Janome WF w/clear plastic parts on foot for better visibility tho'...Each foot has some advantages. It's often a case of working with whatever you've got...:)

Hi Carol: Yes, it's hard to get everything you want in one foot, but most of them have enough of what you need them for.

One additional accessory that should be included with every walking foot is a large 4 cornered yellow traffic sign that says SLOW. Walking feet work best (correction: are most accurate) when used at a snail's pace.

So true! Just because you can stitch fast doesn't mean you should.

Excellent information. Interesting my Janome Acufeed foot has metal feed dogs. Interesting comparison. Do not have a Bernina walking foot. But have Pfaff with IDT which is my preferred choice

I think that sometimes machines and attachments are a bit different in other countries. I even seen different items included with the machine that we don't get included when we purchase ours in Canada.

Mine also has metal feed dogs on the Acufeed foot. I love it! Another thing you may want to mention is that the Janome Acufeed foot is convertible. I love that feature:) Great video. I love the way you explain things so thoroughly. Thanks!

Hi Kim. I was hoping I would see you actually insert the guide into the Janome walking foot. I have a 9450 and I can’t determine where the opening is to accommodate the guide. Thanks!

Hi I just bought a Janome mc6650, do I need a walking foot or is there another foot that will do? I have searched everywhere and there doesn't seem to be one for this machine. I want to do quilts but I don't have a walking foot and can't find any info on it for this machine on the Janome site.

The best person to ask about accessories for your machine is your local Janome dealer as they should stock these for all models or be able to order one in for you.

A closeup from above is needed so we can see where the pointer is on the foot. A shot from the front or side doesn't show up very well.

Hi Enrique: This walking foot works with the "newer" Bernina models so I would check with your local Bernina dealer to see what walking foot would fit on your model. Thanks for watching.
