Thank you, Ibrahim. The Theodosian Walls were some of the most famous defensive fortifications in history, and for 11 centuries, protected this great capital against land invasion from the west. I cared for my aged mother for the last seven years of her life, and all during that time, John Julius Norwich's 'Short History of Byzantium' was by my bedside. It's wonderful to finally see what these famous fortifications look like today. Thank you again for your beautiful video.
Constantinople is a city of the first rank. The triumph of Islam in the 7th and 8th centuries was broken here. When the first Turks came to Europe in 1354, Islam had already been defeated in the West for 100 years. The fact that Europe is Christian today is thanks to the resilience of this great city. In my opinion, Constantinople is humanity's most successful fortress.
So, I'm western, one who is incredibly invested in Byzantine history. Seeing these walls, at least here, as I will never see them for myself, in person, is amazing. The Marble tower shots are incredible, and the crew in the video are awesome! These ruins were once walls that shielded the west from the east. I credit Constantinople and its emperors for holding the line while Europe was building itself back up from the fall of the Empire in the west. That's just my take on it all. I get not everyone will agree but for me, personally, as a Byzantinist, the relics of the ancient Constantinople speak volumes about the debt that Western Europe owes to the late Eastern Empire. Cheers, and thanks for this upload.
Constantinople was facilited before. It is not only litteraly city but represent city as a whole country. We cannot tell if constantinople only a small teritory such as city. Much more than a city. Constantin more likely a state. Great really great. The location was so impresive.
I always wondered when Byzantine Empire started since Rome moved its capital to Constantinople in 324 AD. Well, I found out there is no such thing as Byzantine Empire since it is a scholastic name invention to accommodate the schism of the Roman Catholic religion where they were calling themselves Roman Catholic where real Romans were Orthodox Christians. It would be more proper to state that these walls were built by Romans as part of Roman Empire.

Nice video. I visited Istanbul several decades ago. I went to some of the places shown, the Fortress of Yedikule with the Golden Gate of Byzantium. Thanks. Your video brought back good memories.
Last of them were kind of expelled in the 50s, only couple of thousand left. Turkey and muslim states generally oppressed native minorities when their own people settle by millions in the west

Thanks for the video! Unlike the rest of the commenters, I'm most interested in Ottoman history, so I look at these walls and wonder what Fatih Sultan Mehmet and his army faced in 1453. I'm curious also about whether the damage they inflicted on the Theodosian walls was repaired after the conquest.
So sad the marvel of western and Europian civilization is still under control of Islamic turks.. I have nothing again another culture but its deep hurt in every Europian heart to see this pictures
Thanks for stopping by and watching the video. We are the generation of this century we have to be open minded, and the do not look to the past and this way otherwise we will end doing the same mistake our grandfather‘s did. We have to learn how to live in peace. and we have to understand that mother earth is for everyone. It is not for Christian only it’s not for Muslim it is not for jews Lea. It is not for hinder only it’s for every human . We have to understand that we have to live in peace regardless, our race, or our religion and what what makes you a good person is the amount of good inside you let your race, not your religion. Hi video this beautiful walls of Constantine to show how great our grandfathers where when they built such a marvelous piece of art, and when I mean grandfathers, I mean any human who lived at that age, regardless of his race or religion cause inside of inside inside, each of us, there’s multi race multi genes, coming from different grandfathers today we need this mentality and this kind of open minded personality to be able to live in peace and share the earth without need for war.
They are the walls of Constantinople, built by the people of Constantinople, in the age of Constantinople. The Walls of Constantinople are *in* Istanbul; I think we can agree on that. Many of us will refer to the city Constantinople because of history. And people like me would like it to become Constantinople again! But Turks have become good neighbors so even people like me are in no rush. As long as things remain as they are, the city should remain Constantinople, and history should remain in the past. For now.
@@KaiTakApproach Mate. Don't talk stupid. When you want to take Istanbul, you have to give Athens. Believe me, Europe cannot save you. We can easily put the rafaele planes you have purchased on the ground with our newly produced supersonic drone.
@@turukbodunucuntunudmadmkun2088 and we can easily jam the frequencies your drones use for control and telemetry. You are also forgetting we already took Athens back from you. So don't talk stupid yourself. I expected more from a Turk than stone aged chest puffing.
The walls were built to defend Constantinople, now Istanbul, that is the fate of all nations and all empires, to be washed away by time and you and I too
