Wally learned the Double switch from one of his former managers, Davey Johnson. It was cool to see him help an opposing coach or manager to work with the umpire.

To me this shows a love of the game. He's sticking to the rules. Nice to be flexibe, but also respect that he he is telling the coach and ump how it's supposed to be done. Rave on Wally.

@CokeMachineGlo - yeah, it's pretty crazy that the manager didn't know how to do a double switch. especially in a league with no DH.

I remember Tony LaRussa, who managed the AL's White Sox and A's previously, messed up the first time he tried a double switch with the NL's Cardinals. The umpires didn't allow him to do it.

There aren't many who know more about baseball then Wally. I hope some team overlooks his past and gives him a shot at a major league gig. I was hoping it was the Mets before they hired Terry Collins.

Not only do I not pay any attention to professional sports, but I know nearly nothing about baseball besides the basics, yet all I seem to keep getting recommended from RU-vid is videos of some minor league coach. For whatever reason, I keep clicking them, so that isn't helping the situation either, lol. Also, after saying all that, I now find it kind of ironic I'm wearing a Phillies hat in my profile pic. 😂

That other coach is Jackie Hernandez he won a WS with the Pirates in 70s. Most of the shitty independent leagues hire any ex MLB players in a hope to draw fans to come watch.

The Mets an other MLB teams have made a huge mistake by not giving this guy a managerial job. He's no nonsense and old school. His players would play hard for him and he could take an organization to the big dance. However, teams nowadays are more worried about political correctness instead of a straight shooter. If I was a MLB owner I'd call him up tomorrow and tell him that he's hired.

How can you be able to umpire a professional game and not know what a double switch is??? That's Level 2 difficulty. Calling a boarder-line pitch is harder than understanding a double switch.

I never even played little league and even I know how to do a double switch no problem. How is it that the opposing manager and home plate ump need it spelled out for them? You don't even have to play baseball or be a diehard fan, just watch an NL game once in a while and you know how a double-switch works. Even for a low-level league, to be an ump and be that ignorant of the rules is pathetic

What's the proper way to do a double switch. Yes you have to tell the home plate umpire what the double switch is, I just do not understand what he did wrong?
@bigjoe686659
@bigjoe686659 8 лет назад
+Jesus Lopez he crossed the line and went to the mound first. on a double switch you have to go to the home plate umpire first. I think you can get ejected if you don't do it right
