Clarification about the comment on V8 and V6s being in the same family. The VK engine was derived from the VQ series of engines. So there are no V6 engines called VK+, but they share some history with them.
Fantastic explanation regarding VVL and how all the valves remain closed…I thought you were crazy blasting that without covers! When I did my starter on my 2012 QX56 I couldn’t figure out why all the valves loooksd the same and I couldn’t turn the crank to easily open them. So I gave up on the walnut idea not wanting to contaminate the cylinders. Love your teaching style, keep it up!
Thanks for showing the process. Your valves didn't look too bad but I'm sure you've seen where some VK56VD owners have had very dirty valves with lots of build up. Maybe Nissan will address it one day, maybe not, if it's not considered an issue. I have a first gen VK56DE Titan and a FX50 and it's nice not having to worry about intake valves. Gonna try and hold onto these for a long time and resist the urge to buy something newer.
Obviously Toyota and others saw it differently, hence their dual injection engines. Nissan has a great framework to do dual injection (VK56DE or VK50VE comes to mind) since the port injection was already designed successfully…but then, that’s assuming they wanted to do it.
Hi, I have a 2011 infiniti M56, it makes a strange metallic sound when starting up, also the car seems to consume alot of oil, black soot on the tail pipes, and some black smoke out the exhaust under hard acceleration. Engine light is not on but I do have a P0448 code as well. Please advise
My 2015 infiniti qx80 has 210k miles and runs great ! Im looking into walnut blasting then adding catch tanks to avoid having to do it the rest of the life of the motor . Was removing the penum difficult ?
@edbwoy so my m56 does have a intermittent hesitation on acceleration only sometimes, and does smoke black from the exhaust on hard accelerations as well… my question is do you think this is the cause?
Was getting the intake plenum sealed again difficult? I want to clean my valves on my 11 m56x but I'm nervous about intake vacuum type leaks on reassembly.
I recently sold this car, but no the engine didn't rattle although the direct injected engines are rather noisy. The axle click is quite common for them. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NTi24WJj1GQ.html
At about 205k miles on my 2011 M56X and have thought about doing this. No issues with oil consumption or black smoke on acceleration. Valve covers are leaking slightly. Might consider doing it if I need to replace the starter. Hopefully you recorded that process ;)
Sorry I don’t have access to any M35 engines but if you watch other VQ35 videos, you’ll get a very good idea. G35 for example, but I think even the fwd engines are a good guide
