Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live. With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to secure his family's financial security, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in the world. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis such as White's releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild family man to a kingpin of the drug trade.

This scene is powerful on a rewatch when you realize just how close their family was at the beginning of the show. Walter and Hank are such good friends that Hank’s partner is at his birthday party and they casually invite him on a ride along to see them at work. Walt mentioned that he’s been to the DEA Christmas parties and all of Hank’s coworkers pitch in to donate money for his cancer treatment. He’s a little bit of an odd person, but I imagine that Hank always bragged about how smart his brother in law was. Hank and Walter Jr are really close too and he gives him life lessons for his own good. He treats him like a son.

@GregXHunterz
@GregXHunterz 9 дней назад
@@TheShanicpower The first episode of breaking bad was supposed to show how Walt's life is emasculated though tbh I had trouble understanding that. Yea he has a crappy job as a teacher and car attendant, but a lot of ppl work jobs they don't like just to support their family. Even Hank doesn't truly despise Walter, just saw him as harmless (nothing wrong with that.) There's also Skylar who seems to be more decisive out of the 2 (though she could've put her laptop aside to focus more on her husband, and for Walt's part, he could've communicated to Skylar about putting the laptop away and focus on him during his bday). In the grand scheme of things, there's nothing wrong with that. Walt has the desire to be seen as a man of his house and respected for his chemistry abilities. With that being said, Walt actually could've had all of that when Elliott and Gretchen offered him to work at Gray Matter again.

Hank was almost killed with a bomb earlier in the series. Then almost gunned down/chopped with an axe by two psychos. His line of work is inherently high-risk. With Walt as this known mastermind/crime lord/whatever, Hank should've known better than to only come with one extra man. That was beyond foolish and not Walt's fault at all. When Walt gets in a panic, he, like everyone else, acts without thinking. If he thought about it, he would have known Jack would've done what he did and wouldn't have called. Same with kidnapping Holly. He wouldn't have done that if he wasn't in a panic.

I actually cried when I saw this for the first time. Anna Gunn is incredible in this scene, her distress is so real I feel like it’s my actual mother in an actual situation I’ve witnessed like this with my stepdad. Because of that I have no sympathy for Walt in this scene. All I see is how narcissistic and cold he really is. When he realizes he has lost his family he resorts to kidnapping his child like a coward.

What Walt became was reprehensible but there was still good in him, however minuscule it had become. We know that because we took this entire journey with him. While his family is 1000% in the right, I can’t help but find myself resenting them for turning on him. Again, they are NOT wrong. And I cared very deeply for all of them. BUT….I cared for Walt too. I never stopped caring for him. This was the season where any fun (albeit twisted) that had been had experiencing this show came to a screeching halt. Heartbreaking. Gilligan pulls no punches, sugarcoats nothing, gives us the full extent of this tragedy. He doesn’t manufacture some false happy ending. So so so sad. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
