My Mom would always make us visit this show and as a kid I would rather ride Space Mountain or Pirates. But as an adult I came to really enjoy this show and is a must anytime I'm at the MK. Tfs 4K.
Speaking of which, the "something to do" line in the third act should serve as an obvious hint for a legitimate reason for experiencing this attraction, basically by giving guests something to do while waiting for their next designated ride or dining reservation, so they won't feel bored over having to spend too much time in line!
I absolutely love the optimism so inherent in this attraction. And I admire the message that the ultimate reward of progress is more time for wholesome recreation together as a family. Just good old fashioned American values. I don’t think you’ll ever see a modern theme park attraction like this again.
too bad it's not necessarily true. many families are working more than ever thanks to the policies of the government and landlords charging high rents. This show exalts technological progress but sadly doesn't talk about the necessity of moral progress to make sure teh time-saving devices and tech don't get used to oppress the people. Without equal access to land for example, you are going to get high rents leading to people working all the time not spending time with family.
@@4KWDW I remember touching the foot of Michelangelo's Pieta when it was on display at the 64 Fair too. It was a boat ride that was passing by the statue. Crazy stuff..
I got to experience it back in 1973 when I was just 4 yrs old, during it's last yr at Disneyland. I absolutely loved it, it was the most stand out memory I always had from that visit. Disneyland replaced it with "America Sings" in the lead up to the bicentennial in 1976. I'd always wished I could see it again. I was in my early teens when I learned it was actually at Disneyworld, but still figured I'd never see it. Thankfully in 1996, with a little family of my own by then, my husband got stationed in the Tampa Bay area. I first went with my 2 young daughters and got to enjoy sharing it with them, and later went back with just my husband. It was his 1st time seeing it despite also growing up in Southern California when it was at Disneyland. I've always been grateful I got to fulfill my childhood wish of getting to see it again and I still love it just as much today, a little over 50 yrs after I first saw it.
One of my all-time favorites. My trip to MK is not complete if I don’t enjoy this attraction. Too many happy and nostalgic memories seeing my children on their first trip (1988) enjoy it too. Thank you always 4K WDW for the joy you bring us with your excellent videos✨😍✨😍✨Greetings 👋😃
“Papa, all these people, I’m indecent!” “Don’t worry, Patrica, they’re friends.” 💀 In all seriousness though. I liked this ride for the wrong reasons, such as that conversation. Not here to judge the people who love this ride though.
🎠It's not flashy, but iconic to WDW. Glad it's finally in your library and no one messed up your filming. Not sure why they don't change the last scene (clothes) more than they do (such a big deal wouldn't be made about it....) but it's a nice place for A/C as long as you get there before it closes! Thanks for keeping in the preshow with Walt! 💜
Haven’t fully watched this in years. I’ve been trying to watch more WDW ride footage as I live in the west, and haven’t been to WDW in 22 years. It almost feels like a completely different park since I’ve been. Carousel of progress was alway one of my favorites because I just enjoy Audio animatronics.
Nice that they finally updated the clothes everyone's wearing in the last scene. They really ought to update the script and the props though... The technology depicted in this scene was cutting-edge in the 90's (though believe it or not all of it did exist and was widely available back then) but nowadays all of that technology has become commonplace and much more evolved, or in the case of things like laser discs and car phones has been superceded by newer technologies.
It's so nice to hear the wonderful voice talents of the incomparable MEL BLANC as "Uncle Orville." Speaking of great voice talents, Thurl Ravenscroft (aka the voice of "Tony the Tiger" of Kellogg's Frosted Flakes fame) provides the race play by play at the Tomorrowland Indy Speedway. He's also one of the crooning Ghouls at the Haunted Mansion as well as one of the singers on The Pirates of the Caribbean. Thanks for sharing this post. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
LOL! I do the same thing with my granddaughter who is now 3 years old. I'm starting on my 1 one year granddaughter too. They both love it. Of course, "It's a Small World" song is number one for them. At least it's not the Frozen song. hahahaha
I’m just glad that they’re showing a little love for the attraction given a little bit of a facelift anyway. Need to update the soundtrack at the end of the show no one’s really using laser discs anymore. Lol Thanks for the video.
Great video! The Carousel of Progress is definitely an American Classic! It was a good idea to see folks packed the theater on a hot July Day. True facts. The Wright brothers’ first controlled powered airplane fly and Charles Lindbergh flew over the Atlantic to Paris!👍🏻😊🇺🇸
I remember my mom use to refer to the "ice box." For years, I would call our refrigerator the ice box. My daughters were confused, so I had to explain it to them. To this day I'll still occasionally say, "Put it in the ice box." CofP has always been a favorite of mine because it reminds me of my parents. I'm glad they did a little update on the last scene. I keep thinking one day Disney is going to demolish the attraction.
Haha yes, I like to say ice box too here and there! There are some things from the past that I like to keep alive for as long as possible. Hopefully this attraction will continue to be here for many more years to come! Thanks for watching as always 😃
We took our grandson, who was 12 going on 13 at the time, to see this attraction back in 2014. He loved it! It had been raining that day, and his dad and grandfather decided to go back to the hotel. So...I told him we were going to let our "inner kids" out and ride the kid rides. He was all for it! We rode the Dumbo ride, the Goofy coaster, It's a Small World, Carousel of Progress, and the Buzz Lightyear laser ride, the LeMans raceway.. We ended the night with the parade, lightshow, and fireworks. We had a BLAST! The grandson is 22 now, but we still talk about that trip! ❤😊
I love tove the old carousel of progress. You know the first time i have seem this show was in 1980\. All of the versions of the caroul stick on my head at 4 years old, If you agree to update the years and all the scenes give a thubs up . Because Now is the Time.
John: Uh oh! I’ve blown the whole neighborhood again. Neighbor: Gary! He did it again! Go over and give that neighbor of ours what for! Rover: (growls) John: Easy, Rover. Jee whiz, he didn’t do it on purpose. Why can’t we all just get along?
Does anyone know how I can find the more modern remake of "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" from the very last stage before they exit? I've been looking for it for years.
This is a favorite of my 12 year old, he watches every video he can find on it. He was excited to see a new upload and commented that you did a really good job of filming. 💗
Also, he was very excited to see that the characters in the modern scene have new clothes and wigs! That must be very recent as we were there in April.
i love how this not only shows the progress, but how people got less and less grateful for their stuff. they were so much more happy and grateful back in the day
Well...to be fair, things were absolutely ground-breaking for your everyday person back then. I was born in 82 and I fail to find anything groundbreaking in my life so far other than the internet. Sometimes I feel like I'd rather hit the reset button and struggle through this shows timeframe.
Funny story when we went to Disney last spring. We finished the show, but the last part of it during Christmas kept playing and they wouldn’t let us out until it was over. It never ended, so we just left while the stage was moving. 😂
We saw this show in 1980 when GE sponsored it. My mom and I watched the video last year. We had lots of great memories of this show and Walt Disney World. She passed away a few months later and I'm glad we saw this. It was fun to go down memory lane.
One of Disney best shows. I remember watching it at Disney Land. I wish Disney Land could have a copy of the show. Great video brings back very great memories.
I just brought my family on the carousel of progress. It was just as cool at it was when I went as a kid. Short line and it was a nice change of pace and it was in the AC! Keep the carousel of progress going!
The "air cooling" mentioned in the second act could probably hint at that particular reason for experiencing this attraction that my mom was obviously no stranger to.
Beautifully shot! I fell in love with this attraction in the early 1970's at Disneyland. Back then, instead of exiting the building, guests would take a moving ramp from the stage that would take you to the 2nd floor. There, we would experience the post show. The model of EPCOT was in the center. You can see a slice of the EPCOT model on The Peoplemover. Anyway, Mother and Father would describe how this modern city was an electric city of the future. GE was the sponsor and this was a free attraction back when there was an A-E ticket book.
"It's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" is the original theme song. The theme song you're referring to was actually named "The Best Time of Your Life," which was the theme song from 1975 - 1981.
It breaks every rule of drama except one- change the stage picture . The characters are completely unemotional, the characters are unaware of their context of their behavior. The characters lack depth. They are involved with no activity with their hands. And the dialogue is incredibly low stakes. Boy, has Disney come al ong way.
I'm gonna be honest, the theme song doesn't fit the show at all. I thought I was crazy and remembering the wrong song, but I watched some older VHS footage and realized I've seen the show so many times as a kid, I have "Now is the time" burned in to my skull lol.
I think that the final scene in the carousel of progress predicted the future because it shows 3 pieces of technology we have today Motion activated toilet flushers like the ones that can be found in most public bathrooms virtual reality videogames and voice activation systems
This version is a 1990's update. The last scene originally was set in the modern day for the World's fair. I am kind of wishing they had kept all of the original dialogue and the tech from the last scene. Starting in the 40's section, the dialogue has been changed to reflect "modern sensibilities" but the wife comes off as a dismissive, negative character. The last scene is so "up to the minute" that it is the most dated part. I am old enough to remember all of the versions and changes, and I miss the wide eyed, joyful embrace of the possibilities that innovation can give. Even so, I loved this walk down memory lane, and believe there is STILL -a great big beautiful tomorrow!
There's technically 3 versions. The original World Fair/Disneyland version, the original Disney World version which redid the audio and changed the theme song to "Now is the Time" and then the 90s New Tommarowland version which redid the audio a 3rd time and changed the theme back to "Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow". Although for the most part 75 percent of the dialogue is pretty much the same in all three versions.
The part when it’s Christmas time is my favorite because I see a lot of animatronics and I could tell that they had to make sure this part was working perfectly because it has the most moving animatronics
7:30 heh. As a kid, I remember noticing things like that curtain on the left visibly showing the set piece rotating and feeling so special having figured it out.
Thanks for doing this one! Talk about nostalgia. My great Grammy loved this ride and I do as well. Now is the time , now is the best time of your life! I can't wait to get back on in January.
We were out there this past May. And out of ALL the rides our three year old (now 4) enjoyed was this one. And I couldn’t be more proud as a Disney Dad.
