Walt Disney World: A Dream Come True (1986) 

My great-grandfather,who was an electrician, had the privilege of meeting Walt when he looked at the Orlando property, he said Walt was a very nice and genuine gentleman and enjoyed speaking with him. He was very interested in different lighting techniques and listened intently to my Great Grandfather who was an advanced electrician in the industry at the time.

Went to Disney world in 1978. Basically the peak of my life. I can't even describe the 70s in words, for younger people. Oddly, 1986 was the last of good times. Never been the same since...

This is the Disney I grew up with 😭💕 miss it so much

Have you ever seen one of those rare people who could write a math equation with their left hand while drawing a picture with their right? I think that was Walt. His left and right brain were equal. Great ambition and artistic talent combined. A true one of a kind.

I have lived in Florida since before it was built (since 1963 but 375 miles away) and have never been there, although I've stayed in hotels within walking distance. My mother adores the place. Sadly, at 89 years of age, she may have seen it for the last time. I'm glad she's got her memories and lots of photos.

I sat beside my dad on the couch and watched "Wonderful World of Color" when I was 5 years old. Twenty years later I would be sitting beside him in Disneyland watching "A Moment with Lincoln". I woke up on my 55th birthday in Disney World. Thank you folks at Disney for making another dream come true. I am scheming my next visit when I can get a discount on airfares, age is just a number.

Whatever Walt got involved with in his movies, there was an educational and moral lesson in them for the kids. To this day I have NEVER had a teacher refuse me permission to take either my grandkids or great grandkids out of school for a week at Disney world !!! There is something new in every park that the children learn every day. We practice reading with the menus and the safety warnings on the rides and money management by giving them a spending budget for souvenirs and snacks. Works every time. and they generally spend every penny while we are there.

Growing up in the 60s, our family always watched Disney's Wonderful World of Color. Our marching band raised money my senior year of high school so that we could go to Disney World, 1973. It really was magical. Thank you so much Mr Disney, for making dreams come true

Walt did dream way beyond his time. A true legend.

1986.Back when the Disney Channel ran good programs for both kids and adults and without commercials. They often would show behind the scenes stuff like this .They also ran classic Disney movies at night as well as vintage music shows. All good things must end I guess. Thank you for posting this.

I Shook Walt's Hand Three times as a kid. What an Honor.

Walt isn't just an American icon, he's a world icon. His second name will always be the most well known, most pronounced until the world ends I'm sure. The amount Disney now own is absolutely insane and I can never see a moment when the Disney company goes under.

After my Uncle retired from the Air Force he worked at Disney as a designer. He was so proud of that Company and having worked there. Walt Disney was a genius and so sad he couldnt have lived to see all of it. We miss you Walt !

Walt Elias Disney was truly and amazing man who progressed from nothing to owning Americas biggest theme parks. A true inspiration ❤️

When I was young Wallt use to talk with us kids. He told us stories in the films he put out and about this place called Disneyland he was building. You could leave your problems at the gate once you walked in. I can see it when I go to Disney World. What a great man. His views are being taken away by the corporate Disney. It's a shame.

Talk about innovation and reinvention, thank you Mr. Disney for setting the bar high in life. Dreams really do come true :D

I had this gem on VHS. The parks have changed, but in a sense they HAD to. Walt always said they would be 'ever changing'. I've witnessed the evolution being a visitor for 30+ years. Granted, EPCOT is a shadow of its former self, but they couldn't maintain and increase attendance if it maintained its '82 appearance/attractions. WDW is still an amazing experience and I'm getting the opportunity to share it with my child. She expresses the same glee and excitement that I did. On a side note, hats off to GM for maintaining sponsorship since EPCOT's conception.

What Roy Disney did to over see Disney world after his brother died is highly understated.

Walt disney, a man I've come to know and love for making these films and making my childhood so full of love and happiness. I will never forget how happy I was when I first discovered mickey mouse. Disney and many other cartoons have been apart of me for as long as I can remember. And now that I've started learning more and more about the man who made the magic and creativity happen, I love the films even more.

I love Walt Disney, Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and his movies. His green energy and locally grown food is fantastic as well.

I love Disney so very much. I was a kid in the 1980s. I saw specials from NBC before they'll never broadcasting it again. For I saw Mickey Mouse and his friends in cartoons even movies I've been fan of them ever since. Disney World is my favorite place on Earth. Been there 4 times in Florida and hopefully, if the Coronavirus disappeared forever, I wanna go back there. Is my home forever. Walt Disney, thank for making our dreams come really true. I remember when this special came out. We taped it and watched it over and over. There's nothing like 80s Disney.

I ended up wearing out my VHS copy of this presentation I watched it so many times when I was a kid. This stirred up a lot of memories.

I've been a DisneyHead since 1996. I first went when I was 5 months old and those memories are still with me today. Even though I go to WDW twice a month, I still get teary eyed when "Wish Upon A Star" comes on. I was pissed when they changed Test Track and got rid of Future Corps. I love Disney. And I don't think I'll ever stop. When I have kids, they will practically grow up at the Resort.

MAN! Thanks for uploading this video. Brings back memories. I watched this thing over and over when I was a kid. I think it's half the reason I'm such a Disney freak now.

My dad taped this for me when it came out in 1986 on the Disney Channel and I watched it daily. Somewhere along the line it was recorded-over and I haven't seen it in probably 20 years. When I first visited the walt Disney world resort in Florida in 1988 these were the parks that my grandmother and I saw an d they were awesome. We stayed at the polynesian resort which was cool. Thanks for the memories ProgressCityPublicTV.

I have been a disney fan my whole life, He provided such heart and laughter in all of his films that can`t be measured. Even though I am an adult I will never forget disney films like bambi, dumbo, peter pan, cinderella, and Beauty and the beast. I`m leaving to go to disney world next wednesday april 30th. My family and i have been there many times and are always enchanted by the magical atmosphere the resort provides. Walt Disney thank you for making our world filled with happiness and laughter.

I hope I can visit Walt Disney World. I live in California so I've been to Disneyland and I absolutely love it. Been a long time since I went last though. But I also want to experience Disney World. See Epcot, Animal Kingdom etc.

I'm heading to Magic Kingdom in a few weeks. Being a FL Resident, I go all the time, and every time I go, I just think to myself, Disney would be so proud if he were still alive.

What a great man

I'm glad I was able to finally see this. I've heard about this special, but never got to see it since I wasn't born when it came on the Disney Channel, or had the video. It's interesting to see the history of how Disney World came about. However, it's kind of sad to think of how most of the things they mention about EPCOT in the "Future World" don't even exist anymore, or been replaced. At least Captain EO has came back for anyone who enjoyed that show, but I don't think it'll last for long.

Walt Disney completed my life!

First time I went to wDw I was 19 In 2011 and I absolutely fell In love. I’m from PA. So Hershey park is local to me and when I experienced Disney world. I was blown away of the scale and themes ect, been back 6 times since then and haven’t been since the pandemic. Hope to go back soon and possibly live near wdw and universal one day. Walt is a genious and I thank him for the best place on earth and creating so many memories with my family and friends 😊

Its s shame that Walt's idea of EPCOT was never brought to light. They really took his idea and made it something totally different.

Things have been added and taken away, some of it I don't like and others I love, one thing I can say is thank you Walt and Roy Disney. Without the two of you, my favorite theme park would not have been created, you two deserve all the praise and accolades you've gotten over the years. I could not imagine a world without Disney and everything it has to offer. Sigh, Walt Disney World, my childhood, so much Nostalgia despite not being there since 2009, stayed at the Polynesian Resort, and I remember that resort having a restaurant called Captain Cooks, a shame its not there anymore. Still, Walt Disney World is still my Childhood, and I can say without a doubt that Walt Disney World is, in fact, the Happiest Place on Earth.

It’s actually crazy when you realize just how old these people are now. And people will be saying that about us in a few years. “Who knows when you reach it, so you keep reaching”

Inspired by this wonderful clip and Walt Disney, I plan to start a animation company in the future and make wonderful characters like he did! :)

Disney would be proud of all the achievements his company has made however he would not be pleased with the pricing for his parks he wanted somewhere everyone could go with the family

I love Epcot. But it really seems like it isn't exactly what Walt imagined. Oh well. Walt Disney was such an amazing man. Look at all the happiness he created. And Walt Disney World is the greatest place on earth. I work at The Disney Store right now and I do not plan on working for any other company ever again. One day I will move to the Lake Buena Vista area and get a corporate type job at Disney World and be very happy with life. Thank you Walt Disney.

I agree. I personally have seen the show and the acting and everything was kind of eyeroll worthy, but it's still nice that it's there for anyone who actually enjoyed the show, or is there for people who like the nostalgia of it all.

MAGIC KINGDOM TIP: Buy your tickets in advance, arrive before opening time so you can be one of the first ones in, then head for the BACK of the park while the crowds saunter into the front areas. You can knock out the Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and It's a Small World before you see another person. (Doesn't work at EPCOT because the World Showcase doesn't open when the park opens.)
