I learned about Walter Hyatt, like I suppose a lot of people did, through Lyle Lovett. What terrific songs he wrote, and what a treat to hear him perform. Thanks for uploading this.
RIP Walter Hyatt (1949-1996) A victim onboard ValuJet Flight 592 which crashed into the Florida Everglades in Miami-Dade County, Florida due to an in-flight fire caused by improperly packaged cargo leading to loss of control and/or pilot incapacitation.
I miss these shows and The Texas Connection in particular. Thanks Walter, Champ and the rest of the great performers with Jerry Jeff Walker. And of course, thanks to Terry Lickona, for producing this great show at KLRU station thru the TNN channel.
"King Tears" ... Saw him when he opened for Lyle Lovett at Clemson University shortly before he died. Remember the woman behind me all upset because she had been expecting John Hiatt for some reason.
What a great singer he was. Aside from from being a great songwriter, he had a lot of vocal control, a warm vocal tone, and a lot of soul. The "band" here is a little on the loose and ragged side (even though I'm a big fan of Champ's guitar playing), as this was a sort of casual affair and not a regular touring band, but Walter nails the vocal anyway, just like he was doing a take in the studio.
