As a Celtic supporter I've always had the utmost respect for Walter Smith. He was a top manager & a brilliant ambassador for the club he loved & the entire Scottish game. My sincere condolences to his friends & family & all at Rangers football club.
A gesture beyond words and beyond football. To be honest, the same gestures were showered upon Tommy Burns by the Rangers support when he passed. Not too many left though RIP Walter, say hi to my Dad for me. He's the one in the Celtic top, probably at the bar 😄❤🤍💙💚🤍💛
Absolutely mate. we will always be rivals we will always slaughter each other & have verbals back & forth but this was a man we all universally liked admired & respected our game will forever be good because we've had legends & men like sir Walter & Tommy burns in it 👍 💙💚
Can only agree with both comments I remember when Tommy burns died it was the same both sides came together to show their respect and that’s what it’s all About, there’s always a minority from each side who have to take things too far but most fans with respect understand that certain things come before the rivalry 🔵🟢
No hatred today, that alone shows the power of the old firm and respect Walter deserves. R. I. P Walter ranger's best ever manager. Many a day you broke my heart (and TV remotes).
We need to start respecting and loving each other. We all only have one life. Banter and all is great but let's keep it that way. We don't need hatred in our hearts or violence in these troubling times. Walter was a fantastic manager. R.I.P ❤️
Well said mate. I'm not much of a football fan myself but I understand the passion people have for their clubs. I do not understand why that needs to be translated into violence & hatred though. Three things I say are, be nice, treat people well & stay positive.
I've been a rangers fan my whole life and I was never brought up to hate anyone I have family who support celtic I have a cousin who plays for Livingston my wife supports hearts and my childhood best friend is a celtic supporter and me and him always had banter when they played each other, but that was it. There's no need for the violence. Why can't we respect each other and each others clubs even if it's not the one we support. I applaud this young guy for doing this. As he said its not a bout football anymore when someone has died. And it shouldn't matter what team they managed. Respect costs.nothing
Well said brother we might be rivals but we also recognise a true football man that dedicated himself to rangers I wish the rangers family best wishes Walter ynwa
I'm absolutely gutted to hear the passing of the great Walter Smith. What a gentleman he was. I'm so sorry for all you rangers fans. You's have truly lost a football legend. RIP Walter you are gone to meet your good friend Tommy burns. 🙏 alan celtic fan.💙💚🏴🇮🇪
Rip walter smith from a Celtic fan you were a legend of the game always had upmost respect for him and ally for what they done for tommy burns godbless and hope there up there tonight with there glasses of wine tommy bamming him up about our success over years and walter bamming him up about stopping the 10 and dominating last season! God bless 2 legend of the game and condolences go out to his wife children and wider family and friends and the rangers people
Always felt as a Celtic fan that both us and the Gers share so much in common. We should be proud that our derby is (along with Boca and River) is the greatest on this planet. As for Walter Smith, his legacy will live forever. A giant for Rangers and Scottish football. Gone at 73. Same age as my late father. The cycle of life, so bitter sweet.
As a Rangers fan I'd like to say a big thankyou to this guy , its been a horrendous week 😢 . Well done pal for paying your respects to not just a Rangers great but a fantastic ambassador for Scottish football , a fantastic gesture . Its just a shame it takes a situation like this to show the world that our 2 great rivals can pull together for each other when needed . RIP Mr Smith a legend in every way possible 🇬🇧🇮🇪
For Christ's sakes mate - ' pull together when needed' ? A 73 year old man died??? What are you wittering on about? I envy you as you obviously have no problems in life.
Brilliant to see so many positive comments on this sad day for Scottish football and Rangers FC, when Walter & Ally were pall-bearers for Tommy they gained the utmost respect from many supporters on both sides of the Old Firm, myself included. He was well liked and respected by many throughout Scottish football. RIP Walter.
I wouldn't expect anything else from the celtic fans , the lad was right Tommy was class , condolences to the entire Smith family, Walter was a giant and the world's a sadder place without him 🏴
Lovely, very nice, and a lovely gesture of respect. But it's the sign of a broken, divided and backward society when this is lauded as some superhuman act of kindness. All the applauding and comments feel like fishing for compliments and vying for top of the moral high-ground. The best respect would be to show this kindness and nderstanding of differences all the time and not just in fleeting moments of shared grief.
Whether you're a Rangers supporter or Celtic supporter, something was very special and encouraging to see the genuine friendship with Tommy Burns, Walter Smith and Ally McCoist , I'm sure they shared many good stories and many laughs together, also I believe they helped break down barriers , fact we have more in common with each other than not, my condolence to Walter Smith family and friends God Bless I'm not a particular supporter of any team but admire good sportsmanship on and off the pitch
It's very brave of this dude to go down to Ibrox in a celtic top to pay respect to Walter Smith, that day when passed away was the day to put aside the bitter rivalry between the two clubs for one day, because Walter Smith transened the old firm rivalry RIP Walter Smith 🔵⚪🔴
Dosent matter the hatred rangers and Celtic have when it comes to times like this we stand together and respect each other for wat our greats have done RIP 🙏 Walter (the gaffer) GBNF 🇬🇧
All rivalry aside ... Walter was very respected amongst Celtic fans. A true gent who carried Tommy Burns coffin . On match day we love to hate you but in times like this we stand beside you in grief RIP Walter .. Sleep well
As a Rangers fan this really warms the heart to see this! I applaud the Celtic fan for his kind gesture & paying his respects to Our Walter who was a great man. Who showed great compassion & empathy to all! Sending my deepest sympathy to Walters family may he RIP! ❤️
RIP Walter Smith🙏, another taken too soon. Condolences to his family at this sad time from the Celtic family. I remember Walter and Ally were the first to pay respects when Tommy Burns died
The way it should be....sectarianism takes a back seat when it comes to legends and should remain in the back seat for good....fair play young man!!🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
Wow this is great. I didn't expect it. Took great balls. Would normally be like a fox going into the lion's den. Shows there is still a little humanity out there.
A fantastic gesture. Football often divides fans, thankfully this is put aside for the loss of another legend. Regards and condolences from a Leeds United family. M.O T. Rest in Peace
Never met or knew Walter but seeing him on TV through the years he seemed a great guy, all the warm tributes that have come have reflected that. Thoughts with his family and close ones. RIP Walter.
As a Rangers supporter I have no love for Celtic, but their kind words for Walter just prove that respect between rivals matters. So thank you to Celtic and their fans. The derby is everything to some, and nothing to others. But at times like these, perspective is important. RIP Mr. Smith. Gone but never forgotten.
'Massive respect'? My God this country is full of plonkers. Give him the Nobel peace prize? It would have been sufficient to have placed the Celtic jersey there without wearing the Celtic tshirt in the freezing cold rain. But absolute morons like this think its oh so noble and showing solidarity to actutally wear the Celtic top. Would anyone wear a Rangers top inside a church at a funeral? No...
@@andrewshepherd1579 have you not seen the footage from inside the church at Fernando Ricksen's funeral? This boys not at a funeral he's just putting a shirt down for the gaffer. This is a nice gesture, get over it ya melt. WATP
That's how football supporters should respect legendary players & coaches from opposition clubs in the your domestic competition.Salute from Australia.May he rest in peace.
I too am a Celtic (and Italian) footie fan and think, that Our rivalry('s); should be put aside, even if only [rather] briefly. -R.I.P. and thoughts go- out, to all his friend's and family. Peace and Love.- -M.K.S.
