Thank you for the videos. So many people are wrapped up on Glock clones they forget the one gun that has no equal for price/performance, the PDP lineup. I own a full size 5" PDP, only time it fails is when the remanufactured garbage ammo I have fails to be hot enough to rack the slide. ( Some rounds even tumbled after 30' proving the ammo I had was weak/bad. ) I have Glock fan boy friends comment on how awesome the trigger is, even got a kimber lover to change his mind. " Wow" "how much did that gun cost" "no way".
@@reaperomega3021 Thank you friend. I almost bought her a another brand that has had issues. She would have not been happy with something with problems. Happy wife, happy life. Happy holidays to you and your family.
Great review!!! I have been carrying the PDP F 3.5 for months now. It replaced my CZ P07 as my daily carry. I am 67 year old grandpa with small hands, carpaltunnel issues and bad eyes. This pistol solved all my issues. Using with a Holosun 509t green dot. My shooting has improved 100% since the change. No gun is right for everyone. This one is the right one for me.
Thanks. When the need comes to drop the mag and clear the pistol, does the unfired round eject? Mine either fall out thru the mag well or just sit in the chamber until I turn the pistil on its side and shake the round out. When firing they eject fine. I have never had this issue with my G19 gen 4 or other striker fired pistols. Oh, and when squeezing the trigger, any issues with the trigger just stopping if pulled slightly off to the side? Thanks.
@@RedEyePergo horrible for aftermarket like sights and holsters. Ppq smoked everything till the vp9 came out. But glock and sig have brand loyalty morons who only preach them.
The F-series is a real game changer for me. Due to a severe broken arm (resulting in plates, pins, screws, that sort of thing) and a dislocated wrist that went undiagnosed for six weeks that took a second surgery to correct, there are guns and calibers that are just downright painful to shoot for me. The ergos, the design, the absolutely magnificently engineered reduced recoil impulse make this a full size duty / home defense pistol that I can go and have a full range day and not have any problems. I can’t speak highly enough of this gun.
@@docgillygun9531 funny story - I was at the range and having never shot one, I wanted to see what all the chatter was about CZ guns. If you’re a member of the range, you can put 50 rounds through any of the guns available for consignment sale, and they had this chunky boi CZ 75 SP-01 in there that looked interesting. 20 rounds in and it felt like a mule had kicked my forearm. That low bore axis just kicks the majority of the recoil directly up the forearm. I’m probably imagining it, but it was like I could feel the hardware in my forearm react differently than the bones, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Oh, it shoots flat as hell, but it damn near ruined my arm for the next day (because, dumbass I am, I did, despite being in pain, finish the box of ammo).
@@awokeone7997 with the F-series? It feels like the energy is coming a bit more over the top, like it slides from the slide coming back but then is counterbalanced by both the slide return and the frankly amazing grip texture and ergonomics (I’m a criminal defense lawyer, I don’t have the biggest hands to begin with and a lifetime of taking notes and typing hasn’t given me the hands that someone with a more labor intensive occupation might have) feel like anyway that most of the recoil is felt in my hands and kind of the front part of my wrist, if that makes any sense. There’s a little felt in the forearms, but not as much. By comparison, my EDC is a Sig P365XL. If I put a 100 rounds through it at the range, I’m gonna feel it the next day in my forearms and my wrist. Not crazy super painful, but like when maybe you work out too hard at the gym, trying to go up a weight you weren’t quite ready for. I’ve also got a Walther PPQ M2 in 22lr. I do a lot of basic skills training, working on clean draw and fires, pace drills, stuff like that with minimal recoil.
I LOVE the Walther PDP. I either own or shot most of the pistol platforms and I fell for the Walther hard. I didn't think much of it until I started shooting it and all I can say is its my favorite striker pistol.
@@Asidebar ignore them. I've seen that user for longer than I care to admit across other channels with similar nonsensical remarks. A two bit troll at best and a tism sufferer at worst.
The pdp-f is the best handgun on the market today that isn't a super-expensive custom. They are rock solid and the only reason i haven't replaced my G43X with their 3.5 version is that the glock is 16 ounces rather than 21 on the pdpf. The grip texture is incredible, the trigger is incredible, in looks incredible. If you have the means to get one you really should. It's world class.
One I occasionally carry weighs 35 oz empty / 43 oz loaded. Another weighs 18 oz empty / 26 oz loaded. Besides the size difference that goes along with the extra weight, I can't say I've ever noticed the weight specifically. What problems to do you have from adding 5 oz?
@@Asidebar no offense, but a cheeseburger weighs more than 5 ounces and you don’t digest that immediately after you consume it, meaning extra weight. Same with consuming water. Just my 2 cents
@@John_shepard depends. Working with them all day, concealed, extra mag, radio, pocket knife, my phone and the store phone...I try to reduce weight and what's in my pockets as much as possible.
I work for an agency in Florida and I’m assigned to their training unit. We did testing and evaluation on the Walther PDP and we put 10,000 rounds through this handgun with no malfunctions. We used 115 FMJ, 124 grain frangible, and 147 grain Ranger One duty ammunition. This is truly one of the best hand guns ever made. We also run the Holoson EPS optic on his hand gun. It’s a great combination.
Just picked up one of these for my wife and she absolutely loved the feel in her hand. Looking forward to taking it out and seeing her groupings. The trigger does feel super crisp I might add.
Walther continues to quietly knock it out of the park. I really don't know why they aren't more popular in the U.S. Absolutely love my PDP Compact and PPS M2.
My wife has the 4 inch barrel, it was having dead trigger issues, sent it back to walther they replaced the trigger assembly and got it back to her in 7 days. Was using freedom munitions 9mm that completely jammed up the striker channel with copper shavings, causing multiple misfires in her first IDPA competition that she used it in. We now use federal ammunition in it, she only uses it for IDPA matches, dont trust it for self defense purposes yet. She still carries her glock 48 for the foreseeable future. She has put about a 1000 rounds thru it in competition and training classes.
@@videosilikemedina4872 We have a test sample of one, but I'm just warning people of the problems we have had, I'm glad your walther has been great, this one hasn't. Walther fixed the main problem quickly, and their customer service is really good, but it only likes federal ammo, and that is what walther customer service suggested she use, and so far so good. But no we are a long way from declaring it safe for carry.
I’ve been interested in this model for a while. I really like my other PDPs. The F series fits my hand really well. I’ll probably end up getting one. Thanks for the video, Mike.
I purchased this pistol a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier. I have smaller hands and this suited my needs perfectly. I couldn't agree more with the sights but it is good to hear that Glock sights will work. That being said I am running a Holosun 507c with the acss reticle and love it. I can see this one day replacing my p365 for sure. P.S. I also agree that the F was a poor choice. Its really a great weapon for those of us with smaller hands.
Why is it a "poor choice?" It IS designed for women, although anyone who likes it can use it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4HcJsmYClFM.html . Women's hands ARE, in general, different and not just smaller.
Got a chance to shoot the regular PDP and it's a phenomenal pistol! Sadly I still haven't picked one up for the collection, but I will eventually. Definitely a great option here for folks that have issues racking the slide. Totally agree about the sights...no pistol meant for defense should have plastic sights. Can't imagine they're saving all that much. Great review Mike!
All pistols should be optics ready. Never shot a Walther yet but on my bucket list. I like the green dot much more than a red. Priced better than I thought it would be
@@Cpt_RB yep, I don’t remember which channel but they tested green, red, and amber and deduced that red even though we can’t see red as well as green still showed up best in the environment compared to green or amber that can easily blend into the environment.
This handgun was even better than I hoped. Fits my hand like it was made just for me. Great trigger. Flat shooting, and accurate as snot. I thought I would like it when I first saw it, but not as much as I do. I got a good holster and now carry it as my duty gun. I have more than 2000 rounds through it and it hasn't so much as burped. Just a rock solid firearm at a good price that most can afford. To the men, don't let that "F" keep you from owning a great gun. That's marketing. The tale of the tape is the shooting. That is what is important. And this gun just shoots.
Just bought the full size 4 inch the other day. They had a 3.5 in F, but being a woman with large hands, I felt more at home with the normal one. I still liked the F though and I do get why it's fantastic. I'd actually be open to buying a PDP-F in the future specifically in the 3.5 to fit in that compact pistol role.
PDP is an incredible gun. If you don't have one you're missing out especially for the price. It's really pretty flawless, totally easy to operate and really accurate.
I absolutely love my PDP's. Wife and I both have one. Not sure why the original PDP didn't come out with the slide polished to begin with? I love Walther period. My P99 and PPQ M2 Tac Ops are all absolutely rock solid reliable.
I’ve been trying to get my hand on one of these for quite a while now, but they’re nowhere to be seen locally. Hopefully soon. Thank you very much for the video and happy new year!
I am looking at this video because I hadn't heard of F-series; had 0 clue it was oriented to Double Y folks. I think I'll go ahead and order the one I was eyeballing on GB for a practical comparison. Nice video with lots of useful information
@@Ando2k10 same setup I have but I also threw a Taran tactical +6 base pad on. Don’t carry it to much but it’s one of my home defense handguns. Absolute tack driver
I would absolutely love it if they would release a subcompact version of this one. I recently inspected a Glock 26 (gen 5) and found that I couldn't rack the slide all the way back, and I've heard that the M&P9 SC is actually supposed to be more difficult than even that one. I'm a huge fan of the Ruger Security-9 full-size and will admit that I am intrigued by the new .380 that just came out, but I would prefer 9mm and after inspecting the Max-9 at the range and finding that the slide on that one was a real bitch, I'm unsure about whether the S9C will be easy to manipulate even though the big brother is super easy for me. If Walther can release a subcompact of this like they did with the PPQ while still maintaining the easy-rack slide, I would definitely consider buying. Even this one seems like a worthy contender (alongside the Glock 19) for an all-purpose or SHTF gun. How easy or difficult would it be for a smaller woman to conceal?
I think you could conceal the 3.5 inch model quite comfortably honestly. Having that little bit of extra weight is going to assist with the recoil impulse and the trade isn't that severe.
I picked up a PDP-F 3.5" from Cabelas for $549. They took $100 off as Cabelas was offering an additional $100 in points back on the PDP full size and PDP compact. They were offering a free Ameriglo Haven RDS with a purchase. MSRP $399, Street Price $250. This makes the gun a $299 option. I had $180 in points on my card, so It in essence cost me $369 + tax for a RDS equipped PDP-F. This winds up being a sub $400 RDS equipped CCW pistol. I'm waiting on the sight to arrive before going to range, but this could be a budget Staccato CS killer!
Personally I feel the Walther PDP is currently the best duty pistol on the market. With a capacity or 10, 15 or 18 in the magazine and a barrel length of 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0” it’s overlooked and under rated! Plus it has a lifetime warranty!
@@J.R.F.23I believe it's tied for #1 with the HK VP9L. If paying a couple hundred extra is not a concern, I think the HK offers a slightly stronger military/LE track record and a little more customizability (hkparts). I'd bet my life on either one of them though, they're both phenomenal pistols.
I love my Sigs and P80s, but the PDP has had my attention for a while. It's definitely a marketing mistake to limit the supposed user, but it looks like a nice model for sure.
@@woodrowcall3158 Yeah, absolutely! I'm saying their own marketing is telling the consumer who the pistol is for. I think that's a mistake. Anyone can use it!
@@02BLACKTAWS6 have you seen any of the other advancements for gun companies? 2/3 of them are focused for Leo/military. Walther is trying to get the contract from underneath glock for Leo. Especially with most departments trying to go to rds. this is the best option on the market for its price.
I have a fullsize Walther PDP Pro and I have to say its probably the best striker fired pistol on the market out of the box. The Pro trigger is phenomenal with minimal take up and short crisp 'icicle' break around 4-5 pounds with an equally short crisp reset. Not heavy and not too light for a CC/HD gun. The Pro magwell aids even more with the PDP philosophy of making the gun aim more naturally while using a red dot (I have a Steiner MPS on mine). Grip texture is great and the three sizes of backstraps is adequate. Its not HK P30/VP9 levels of comfy in the hand but close and even more grippy. Really the only con I have is the long slide stop/release is not in an ideal location for shooting with a thumbs forward grip but thats easily trained around with some range time. I haven't held or shot the PDP-F but everything I've seen tells me the entire PDP line up is solid gold. Shame Walther isn't supporting their guns more with parts availability but not everyone can be the next Glock I guess.

Purchased one of these a few weeks back. Just shot it today. Ran about 150 rounds of mixed brands through it. I'm damn impressed. Gobbled everything, great trigger, softest shooting 9mm I've ever fired. The grip really makes this handgun. Have not been able to find a decent owb holster yet, but?
@@curgunner I have 2 holsters. I am a chubby guy, so I only carry concealed owb. The primary holster is a leather job from Mitch Rosen. Very high quality and I actually prefer his holsters due to the quality and comfort. I also have an owb Kydex holster that I had a local holster shop make, but I only use it for the range. Just a note that any PDP holster will also work on the F series..
I just bought the 4 inch one. Basically the same footprint as a g19. I am a bit of a fan boy I own the P99, PPQ M2, PDP Compact, and the PDP F-series. The f-series is my favorite. I ordered a holster for it and it will be my edc until something better comes a long. The adapter plate takes about 2-3 weeks to arrive.
It took about the same for me, and I bought my PDP the day it was released. As a side note, about 4 months in I decided to change my optic. I filled out the online form again, using my same serial number, and they sent me out the plate for my Holosun for free as well.
I had the regular pdp and I sold that and bought this im digging it more than the regular one, they should have just called it the slim version instead of f for female

Aiming for the female market, yet its width is pretty chunky for EDC. My wife is small and old enough to have trouble racking a slide, so we just got a new gun for her that was easier to rack and load, the S&W M&P EZ Performance Center model with the better trigger, in 9mm. I'm sure she'd like the PDP-F, but I think it'd be difficult for her to carry discreetly.
I have had a PDP-C 4" for a yr, 1,000 rds and Never a hiccup, I never paid attention to the F-series because I heard it was all about the small grip, I have large hands, I didn't hear until a month ago that the F-series offers a 3.5"......after EDCing the 4", I'd rather have the 3.5"
I recently stumbled across a deal on a used 3.5” PDP-F with 3 magazines for $380. Wasn’t in the market but couldn’t pass it up at that price. I enjoy shooting it when I get the chance but don’t get to often since my 14 y/o daughter has really taken to it. The 4” would have been the better option since I doubt it will ever be used as a CCW but beggars can’t be choosers.
Walther PPQ and PDP series are excellent offerings. I have had similar results to date with standard and F series models. Run at least 2K rounds though each of them and it just keeps getting better. Zero malfunctions except for one that was due to the feed lips on the magazine but not the firearm. Just standard ball ammo to date and I am quite impressed. F series is part of my EDC stable. Pretty sure people will want to modify the hell out of these guns, and more power to you all if that is your thing but really all that is required is a Red Dot(if you want one), good steel sights and maybe a couple of PPQ MQ2 15+2 mags and you should be good to go. Trigger is phenomenal and for defensive purposes it’s perfect. By the way, Springfield Echelon seems like a great option as well. Just mention it as I started putting one through it’s paces and so far so good. My .02 cents and wishing you all a great day and weekend!
Same here but my conclusion is the P10cOR is better for me. More grip texture, half-cocked striker, stronger chassis, lower bore axis, steel sights, and just a tad slimmer for EDC.
Have the original 4.5 PDP and yes sir, that's one amazing trigger, only stock trigger that's better is Canick Rival and my understanding is its a copy of Walther's
I wished I gave this gun a look before buying my Sig P320 X Compact as my first gun. My biggest mistake during my gun shopping was not broadening my search criteria to other brands beyond Sig and Glock
I've had my SigP320RX for about 4yrs and just bought the Walther PDP-F/4. This is my 4th gun and I'm super impressed! Love how easy it is to rack the gun, the trigger is insanely accurate, discharging the mag is no longer difficult to reach, and the grip is great regardless of weather conditions. The gun is well priced and Walther provides a free optic plate w/purchase along w/your serial number. Win Win.
My factory PDP sights cowitness really nice in the lower 1/8 of the window of the holosun EPS. I don’t like my backup irons being too high in the window and it feels like the PDP was built to run the EPS
Love my F series. I have a few Walthers and this one has its place for sure. Finally just got the black tie variant but I don’t think I can bring myself to shoot it.
Thank you for the thorough review. It's good to see the PDP/PDP-Frau getting more press. I have two (Pro SD Compact & F series) and they're both truly impressive when compared to their peers. I agree with you Mr. GnG, Walther went a bit far in trying to market so hard to women with this model. I get it, but they might be stigmatizing it a bit. Hopefully their marketing strategy going forward is a little stronger, and would love to see a subcompact version of the F, if anyone from Walther is reading these reviews. Super underrated pistols, reliability, accuracy, and the small touches make this pistol well worth while. Again, sensible review, well done, thanks for the solid content without excessive banter.
@@mc4056 The SD Pro Compact magazine capacity doesn't seem to affect the sense of size in the hand. In a way it's a clever use of space to absorb that extra capacity because it's mostly swallowed up by the magazine well, vertical space that would otherwise go unused. It fits my smaller hand very well from tang to magwell. And both models have different backstraps. I don't think the F feels weird in the hand, but I like the feeling of the compact better. It's more contoured. But F is the way to go if you need the smallest grip circumference possible.
Great review of this pistol. My only question is how did you get this gun to fit in ANY Glock 19 holster? I've got a PDP and it doesn't fit in any of my G19 holsters.
After renting the pdp f a few weeks ago at the range and comparing it to dads standard pdp a ppq, this pistol is a tiny bit more snappy. I prefer the ppq over the pdp. Just my personal opinion of a multiple walther side by side view.
@@protectiverailroaddad7541 i don’t understand why they discontinued a world renowned firearm like the ppq to come out with a chunkier/snapper counterpart. They screwed up on that one.
@@everydayman3497 it’s not all bad and I feel it does have a few upgrades over the ppq. The optics cut is better/standard, the grip texture is fantastic, the accessory rail is better, and the compatibility with Glock sights is huge. It’s snappier because it’s lighter slide and still has that high Walther bore axis. I don’t like the chunky slide really but still like the gun nonetheless. With that said I still like the ppq a little more and actually shoot mine a tad Bette than my pdp, both 5” versions
I was lucky enough to score an amazing deal on my PDP Compact on Brownells. Got it for less than $500. If I can find a deal like that on the F, I am 100% gonna do it!
Thank you for posting. You have mentioned that you have the PDP 4” compact and the PDP F 3.5” and I am actually looking to purchase one of these but I am still can’t decide between the two. Can you please share your thoughts on why the 3.5 F is better than the 4” compact?
Everyone, let’s get past the F designation. The PDP pistol and this particular variation is awesome. I have really big hands and appreciate the slim down grip tremendously. This pistol has everything the standard model does with the slim down grip which personally I think is great for concealed carry. Don’t be fooled these Walther’s all shoot great at 25 yards. I am a big Glock, HK and CZ fan but man I love Walther as well. Great firearm and really underrated and deserves more credit. Very happy that Walther is coming up with designs for our female shooters as we need to show them some love for sure but hey this pistol rocks for guys as well. I should know as it has steadily become one of my favorite carry options. Hope this helps!
Have the full size 4.5" PDP. Nice pistol and run it with an optic. Not gonna bother with suppressor height sights. Like the optic is good for 20,000 hours if I change the battery once a year I'm not likely to have an issue where I can't use the optic but could still use irons.
Already own the Q4 and love it, but it's like carrying an anchor. Been looking at a PDP Compact for carry, but want to try out the F Series before I make my decision (I kinda have smaller hands).
Looks like a Glock 19 recoil guide rod assembly. Reduced weight for easier racking of the slide but you will have more felt recoil in your hand and longer time for follow up shots
Assuming that's what everyone wanted and then forcing it upon the market, when they could have just as easily made a good gun that happened to have the paddle and force everyone to realize its probably better.
I was able to buy an F series frame (3.5 inch barrel) and I put my PPQ SC slide on it. If I’m honest, I did this mainly for aesthetics. I never use the flush fit 10 rd mags in my PPQ SC, and I wasn’t a fan of how it looked with a magazine sleeve on it. Also didn’t like that i had to worry about keeping a magazine sleeve on each 15 rd mag or make sure i kept ahold of the sleeve while doing mag swap. Looks 🔥. That said, you can’t just buy an F series frame and run QSC slide on it. It took some figuring to make it work, had to swap a few parts. Wouldn’t recommend anyone trying unless you have already completely dis and reassembled a PPQ frame, including taking the single action lever and sear itself out of the housing, and setting them back in place. Although some people weren’t fans of the different design of QSC compared to PPQ, I love it. Tried to break it with 10,000 rounds and never had a single malfunction. Did have to replace trigger return spring. Still wonder why Walther designed QSC the way they did, and my best guess is they were in a race to get a subcompact out to market before Canik did. They also didn’t want to interfere with production on any of their other pistols to make the SC, so they went with a design that required less machining. Canik is a Walther clone. The PPX and Creed were made in response to Canik’s arrival on to the market imo, and you def don’t want the clone to have a subcompact first.
Owning both, the PDP has a better grip, better trigger, better slide serrations, less felt recoil, and that nub at the end of the grip makes it aim more naturally. Internally, they are pretty similar. In fact, you can put your PDP slide on your PPQ grip and your PPQ slide on the PDP grip, and, the PDP compact can use PPQ mags.
