It took me watching this film a few times to notice that Eva Gabor in this scene is severely underrated. She's got a thankless job here, miming being lively and vivacious on the sidelines for minutes on end without repeating herself. She does great.
@@Gigipretty64: No this was Eva; just seven years before she starred with Eddie Albert on Green Acres as Lisa Douglas. No I stand corrected. It was eight years before Green Acres. Even though Gigi was released in 1958; it was filmed during the summer of 1957; just before her biggest fan, and future Green Acres fan, (that's me of course) was born. They even filmed some of it on location over there in Paris.
I grew up with this and "My Fair Lady" the two best musicals of their time. Lots of other greats, yes, but these 2 stand the test of time so well I watch anytime they are on. Brings back wonderful memories of happy times.
@Alma: That wasn't quite what he said. I want to let you know I don't totally approve of the behavior either. At the same time, for some it is possible to like the movie anyway.
@@julistarling8382 I think Alma needs a hug. It's a movie. It's a great musical. People need to relax and enjoy being entertained and not look at everything to criticize. Life's too short. Cheers!
That's correct, at least initially, but according to Wikipedia, "In September, the cast and crew flew to California, where several interior scenes were filmed, among them the entire scene in Maxim's, which included a musical number by Jourdan. Lerner was unhappy with the look of the scene as it had been shot by Minnelli, so, at considerable expense, the restaurant was recreated on a soundstage and the scene was reshot by director Charles Walters, since Minnelli was overseas working on a new project.[17]."..........Sorry..........
@@hudsony777 I just read Lerner’s memoir, and you are mostly correct. To my understanding the problem with the original shots of the Maxim‘s scene was merely that Vincente (as AJL refers to him) forgot to film any closeups of Louis (Gaston) and therefore they needed to recreate Maxim’s on a sound stage so as to film the closeups that would make the voiceover style work. Vincente was aware of the reshoots but was otherwise occupied shooting another film in Paris by the time the set was built, so Charles Walters was brought in to film the closeups and later also filmed “The Night They Invented Champagne.” I believe the final product was a mix of the two different shoots.
I didn't know Maxim's was an actual place until I saw this comment and looked it up. The facts sound so neat and it's neat that there was a restaurant that several different movie scenes were shot at :D
@@ceciasa3376 Maxim's is a very, very famous restaurant of the turn-of -the-last century Paris. It still exists and has become a luxury chain and brand: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxim%27s
I always love the blonde to right when Miss Gabor and Mister Jourdan are seated. She stands out in all of the crowd scenes... this one, the return to Maxim's with Gigi, the opening Bois scene.. She is absolutely stone-faced during all of her scenes. Terrific!
I managed to get every single word written down & really watch Gastons’ lips as he says every word in the song. Plus I took a few screenshots of her excitement & frolicking around the dance floor etc. it’s rather quite interesting just how Gaston gets himself so worked over Gigi NOT thing of Me(him)! Incredible cute music 🎶 & the costumes/colours of them all & just how her movements matched up with each of his words. Well spoken. Beautifully clearly said! Thank you Louis Jourdan! Your musical is 1of a kind & I sincerely appreciate the classical music of the past decades due to the fact that they’re so clear & clean in the messages they conveying!
И почему сейчас нет таких мужчин, как Луи Журдан ❤? Такой необыкновенный красавец, джентльмен, благородный и харизматичный ❤ Влюблена до мозга костей ❤❤❤💋💋💋
I had no idea who was the actress playing that vivacious, effervescent lady (with a great smile) so effortlessly. Then I looked it up and ...well I'll be...it was Ms. Gabor. It made me want to see more of that character!
@@randysills4418 oh but im realizing now more that relationships like this were the norm back in the days. Good thing this isnt accepted as much now💯 also that way he thought women were a bore, typical. Who knows maybe in real life he was a man but idk of a man either who would play a role of a pedophile so happily
@jawaadthebest none actually even if I was on something I wouldnt watch this garbage. Yall are to brainwashed to realize what you guys even watch. I hope you guys dont show this to your kids.

@@chriselias3881 no I cant because I find it disgusting that people are into this. This creepy idk how you guys dont hear the old man singing about little girls or see how stubborn the 40 year old is towards the girl when it comes to her wearing little girl clothing. LITTLE GIRL CLOTHING did you not see that part???? Are you that blind too. How can you guys even enjoy this??? Then when a teenage girl is getting raped everyone freaks tf out and somehow this is satisfying to watch??? You people are disgusting
Now I know I’ve got the title for certain! This is the 1 that Chris Stevens was most definitely singing along to in his radio station on Northern Exposure airing April 15,1991! Finally gonna take down these words if at all possible! This too are memories for me while growing up and my mom was introduced all these beautiful musicals! I love this particular song! Gotta get the exact lyrics! Hope someone wrote them down!
When everyone you have ever loved is finally gone When everything you have ever wanted is finally done with When all of your nightmares are for a time obscured As by a shining brainless beacon Or a blinding eclipse of the many terrible shapes of this world When you are calm and joyful And finally entirely alone Then in a great new darkness You will finally execute your special plan
I have seen this so many times, and had noted how bad the sound controls were on his singing, but had never really noticed that heavy 5 o'clock shadow. Guess I was too busy falling in love with all the dresses, especially Miss Gabors!
No no. She's already with the ice skating instructor from the previous scene. Gaston's whole thing in this story is that he's bored. This is an old, stale relationship that bores him. For her to be that vivacious and happy, it's likely someone else who's done it to her because Gaston is barely trying.
Green Acres' and Octopussy's Gardeners? Well perhaps you had to be there. Ainola in the Middle 1970s. Rest in peace Eva Gabor and well almost everyone.
I thought she was flirting with a woman across from her, hence he sings about her being gay and ignoring him. I did not know gay meant something else back then. Tootles😊
