What a beautiful voice - and an utterly romantic song. Congratulations on a splendid performance. Thank goodness someone recorded it! My mother's favourite song and she used to sing it all around the house. She herself danced in a number of Ivor Novello musicals, notably Glamorous Night.
Well Lorna all i can say is Africa is very lucky to have a lady with your class and talent to tutor their young singers , and you enjoy working with them
That is sweet Ian, thanks! I made a choice, Europe or Africa. I am born here and the way of life and climate is in my blood. My mission is to help others with singing talent to Europe, I consider myself as a kind of preparatory platform. I have had much success and continuing to do what I do best, which is to teach!
I can state happily that Dear Ivor's music is finding a new audience. A lovely tribute was part of the Proms a couple of years ago to everyones delight. The film Gosford Park helped too and younger people are into "Vintage" music as a break from the harsher commercial music. I grew up with wonderful music loving parents who sang songs of Ivor Novello at home so I was lucky to be exposed to his music growing up in the 70's. I love your rendition of this. An example of how Novello should be sung. Thank you.
This show played in the West End at the Adelphi during the War and was the biggest show in London in Wartime. Hugely important show in the history of British and indeed global musical theatre.
Thank you friend! Alas - I am still in Zimbabwe, still singing and never got to the West End. Time marches on and its too late now! But so nice to get your comment!
an outstanding exponent of the art of bel canto.........and a fine living example of the tradition which is handed down from the Marchesi family and poeple like Pauline Viardot (a close friend of Chopin) ...............also you have one of the most beautiful and distinctive vocal tones that I have ever heard........on a par with Jessye Norman and Callas..........
Its not too late. Not for that voice. An Ivor Novello revival is round the corner. There will be room for you. Do you know the story of Kyra Vane - the soprano who was lost and then found. If you cant find it, I will precis what I know for you. There is some information which comes up on Google.
