Organist Ray Cornils performs Joseph Bonnet's "Variations de concert" on the Wanamaker Organ (the World's Largest pipe organ, VI/463) during the 5:00 pm concert at Wanamaker Organ Day 2013 on June 29 at Macy's in Center City, Philadelphia. Please pardon the camera shake and noise of "commerce" in the background. The video was taken from the 3rd floor balcony on the west side of the grand court. Don't miss the pedal solo at 6:05!
This was the fifth piece in the concert.

Aside from the coat that made me think it was Diane Bish in the preview,this is a favorite piece,on a favorite organ,and a favorite performance of said piece!

Mr. Smith, I share your sentiments almost entirely. Ever since a boy of 7 or 8 there has been nothing that compares with pipe organs and the music written for them. Their complexity rewards with their beauty. I'll pass on the harp, but being allowed to play the pipe organ is not a bad view of eternity, to me. I hope also to meet the great masters, even at a distance, to express my eternal gratitude for their inestimable gifts to all of us. I hope we both get our wishes. I'm sure Virgil Fox would have approved of the coat :-) This was a fabulous day that featured two great guest organists in addition to Mr. Conte. The evening concert was even better because the store noises were absent and the full voice of the Wanamaker Organ could be heard. Highly recommended for Wanamaker Organ enthusiasts.

That is better than anything. I heard that whistling from upstream on the South Shore in New Jersey and it's NOT commerce. Thanks for the video.

One of my favorite types of wonderful theater organ music; a almost lost art. The late Gaylord Carter was one of the greatest organists of this instrument. His famous "Intolerance" piece for the 1916 silent film is a treasure!

Let's get it straight This organ IS NOT NOW, NOR HAS IT EVER BEEN A THEATER ORGAN. It can do anything a theather organ can do but with much better tonal quality.

I was just in Philly a couple weeks ago & had I known about this organ prior to my trip, I would have done everything in my power to hear this thing!!! O well, got somethin to do next time i'm out that way!

Ya know, I don't care if he wore his robe and slippers to play, the fact is he did a tremendous job, shared his talent with us, and brought beautiful and exciting music to us on this glorious instrument. Remember why we are here, remember why he is here, and cut the dishing of outerwear.

+Larry Nevel May I use this reply to comment. It matters not what an organist wears, or does not. It seems a current trend to worry about Gert's sneakers or the red coat , Virgil's cape & gloves or Carpenters showing his physique. How about closing the eyes and just listening. We should be, as you commented, listening to this revitalized organ without worrying about distractions. It is the majic of those hands that really matter. Thank you for your space, Sir.
