WandaVision - 1x2 - Group Reaction 

The ads represent tragedies in Wanda's (and Quicksilver) life, the ticking Stark toaster is the Stark bomb that dropped on their home and didn't explode, the Strucker watch is their captivity and torture/experiments by Von Strucker.

She dropped the accent because she just wants to fit in - she stated this explicitly. Unfortunately, she has always had a target on her just for being herself, and this is why Agnes laughs at her for suggesting that strategy to get "in" with Dottie. It's not until they present the stage personas of "Illusion & Glamour" that Dottie praises them for such a comedic performance.

When Vision and Wanda went on the run after the whole civil war situation they had to hide who there were so that meant that Vision needed a human face, Cap lost the star and grew a sweet beard and the Black widow got blonde hair. Also meant Wanda changed up her accent to blend in more.

Paul Bettany is absolutely channelling Rik Mayall (RIP) in this episode and I won't hear otherwise lol

She lost her accent because she was being trained by black widow to know how to be a spy and such and it was one of the things she learned

Usually when you live in a place for a long time especially around people who have an American accent you can actually start to lose your accent so maybe since she lived in America for so long and wasn’t around other people who spoke with her accent she lost her accent it happens all the time to people

Even though she doesn't remember or know it, I think Wanda is in control of everything that's happening, like she said No about the beekeeper guy at the end and right after she did, it reversed time, or last episode when Visions boss started asking questions he started choking, and in this episode when the radio was breaking through the illusion it blew up. I think since this is all in her mind, once she saw color, her mind was trying to cooperate with the fact that she was breaking out of the illusion, so it compensated by making her see everything in color at the end. Also the Ads are her mind remembering things, like last episode was the toaster being representative of the Stark bomb that killed her parents, with the quote "Forget the past, this is your future" and the watch being Strucker made, including the Hydra Symbol. And with Geraldine I think she paused for a moment because her mind was coming up with a name for her character. There's also things like how her magic works, it's not like her powers in the movies, like things just seem to move, she has control over time, to turn things back, like to fix the plates or turning the cooked chicken back into an egg, as well as making the piano turn into cardboard, she couldn't do this before. Which is obviously because she's dreaming, or in a sort of illusion whether it was created by S.W.O.R.D. or by her own mind, I'm excited to find out. Bro I absolutely used to think life was in Black and White back in the day as well. I never told anyone that or asked my parents, but I thought it was just a progression of life throughout history. I don't think it was until a show I was watching actually mentioned color like said the colors of a characters clothes that I became more informed on it.

I always thought Wanda lost her accent because from the transition to Age of Ultron to Civil War, Natasha and Steve were teaching her how to go through missions being more subtle so she was still learning how to do an American accent (which why the accent is still there in some scenes like when she was cooking with vision) but by the time they had to go undercover due to being "war criminals" she developed the accent fully in infinity war

wanda hasn't lost her accent, but black widow did teach her an american accent. after _civil war_ she was on the run, so dropping the sokovian accent helped her evade capture, and _wandavision_ is obviously based on american sitcoms, explaining her use of an american accent here.

You know... I've never actually thought about Wanda's accent lmao. But it is a real thing that happens. For most of my elementary school days (being a military brat), I lived in South Korea, Japan, and the Philippines (also my mom is Filipina), so I picked up sort of a mixed accent from all of them, but since my family moved back to the states I've pretty much lost it. I still catch myself on certain words sometimes however. Accents are just based on your surroundings and you adapt to them. Sort of a similar way in how we pick up similar humor, phrases, and mannerisms from our friends.

The Strucker ad would serve the same purpose without the Hydra logo so prominently featured which makes me think it's either a set up for later or a hint of the lore of the world we're in with Wanda and Vision, maybe like in The Framework during AoS season 4, this world has Hydra in charge too?

Late to the reaction, but I believe the bed thing is because in 50's, they weren't allowed to show beds, even of married couples, pushed together, however, that changed in the 60s, so probably the shows subtle way to show the decade change

You ‘might’ be able to make the argument that LOST started the modern age, but I think that might be earlier. I’d argue the swap to HD as a milestone; but perhaps the introduction of Sopranos is where the four broadcast networks were no longer the sole providers of the water-cooler content. But… we’re on the penumbra of the Streaming Age of TV. One could argue the first Netflix Original Series to become a meme might be the start. Maybe the release and popularity of Stranger Things kicked their competitors into high gear as an early milestone.

Wait, so Wanda had the same accent throughout those movies? I am asking because her German dubing artist toned it down from movie to movie if I am not mistaken. So if you ask me in the German version she lost her accent over time. I might watch the Endgame in the original language this weekend just to see what you mean... and skip through the other movies. Anyways have you considered that the communist thing might come around? She comes from a USSR country and her husband is literally dead. The seventies might tie into shows like Mission Impossible and take on the Deep Agent, Sleeper or Manchurian Candidate trope (I think the latter one was also pretty often used in the 80s) trope. Actually the oddest Mission Impossible episode features an almost supernatural bee swarm. So basically Wanda not having her accent when she comes to town might build up to something.

Wanda lost her accent because she started watching these old TV series with perfect English. A lot of people assimilate to another culture that way. Later when things got crazy she went to her safe space assimilating something that helped her in the past.

I feel the reason Wanda dropped her accent is because she was being trained by Strucker and Hydra to infiltrate America so she and Pietro would have been taught to "American-ize" their accents and mannerisms as to not arouse suspicion. Much like Black Widow, or in the real world example KGB agents during the cold war. Also she spent a lot of time hiding out stuck with mostly American (or British in the case of Vision) people and when you're away from your native tongue for a long period of time often your accent fades or changes, and she probably made a concentrated effort to blend in with her surroundings in order to not feel 'foreign'.

The bed thing is because in the early days of television a rule was made that married couples couldn't be in the same bed together so normally couple would have separate beds. Funny enough the Flintstones was one of the first shows to have a married couple in bed together.

Illusion and Glamour are actual characters that appear in the 80s Scarlet Witch and Vision miniseries. They are a couple of magicians who live in the same neighborhood and start a friendship with Wanda and Viz. I love the little nod they did here.

Wanda's accent changed over time because she started to hang around Natasha all the time (who is Russian) and so she taught her how to disguise it. Once Wanda and Vision escaped to Scotland she completely lost her accent to further blend in.

She probably lost her accent because as seen in the beginning of Civil War, Natasha was giving her spy-ish training for missions and probably practiced with her to blend her accent with the people around her as a spy would do to blend in.

Pay attention the sewer and the guy coming out of it. Earlier in the episode when the rabbit is dropped off early in the episode, the manhole is missing in the background. It only appears at the end when the guy comes out. ALSO, pay attention to his suit. It's a hazmat suit when we see him up close first, glass covering and all, then it cuts to Wanda and she changes reality and turns the guy into a beekeeper to try to not bring the real world in. It doesn't work as well as she wants as he's still there so she rewinds everything and changes it before he can come out, she changed reality again.

The bee keeper might be a reference to AIM since their soldier's uniforms look like bee keeper outfits

The strings this show pulls to the comics is amazing. Illusion and Glamor was a couple who did excactly what Wanda and Vision did in this episode, used real magic in stage shows and passed it off as the usual stage trickery. When Scarlett Witch and Vision moved to their town, they helped protect them against bigots and became friends. Deep comic cut right out in the open. I like it!

What’s saddens me, is WandaVision is supposed to play besides Agents of SHIELD, last year. So Season 7 and this series would look awesome in tandem. Even the each episode, is a different era which happened in Agents of SHIELD, would be spot on.

Magic was seen as the devils work and has a long history of being associated with the Devil and using demonic imagery (in magician’s posters, props, etc) which is probably just me looking too hard into it. But the *multiple lines mentioning DEVIL* ...AND the fact that *bunny rabbit was named “MR. SCRATCHy”* ...copied straight from Wikipedia haha: Old Scratch or *Mr. Scratch is a nickname or pseudonym for the Devil.* The name likely comes from Middle English scrat, the name of a demon or goblin, derived from Old Norse skratte. DONT KNOW IF THIS IS HINTING AT A PARTICULAR MARVEL CHARACTER OR NOT...BUT DAMN THAT WOULD BE SOOOO DOPE! Either way I definitely feel Agnus aka Kathryn Hahn is more than meets the eye. She constantly is asking questions or saying things that reference Wanda and Vision’s current situation and their past. Like the snap, having magic, etc. OH ALSO I feel like everyone and everything there has been set up or kind of pressing them to have children. With the repeating of children in a weird brainwashy way, everyone always asking if they have kids why they don’t and when they will have them, etc. So maybe there is something nefarious in the works trying to get Wanda to use her powers to have children??

Man homeboy is pretty sharp, he realised they went to the 60s. He's right before this on TV shows and movies, all women had skirts. We started seeing women with pants maybe at the end of the 50s going into the 60s. Women had pants in Elvis movies.

Wanda's accent is easily explained: Black Widow trained her to mask her accent for Avengers missions where they go undercover, as seen at the start of Civil War. And here, they're trying to blend in, so she sticks with an American accent. But there are occasional slip-ups, particularly in emotional or stressful times, which is very true to life.
