We are pleased to exhibit our first retrospective video essay on Kiyoshi Kurosawa!
Brief Introduction: Kiyoshi Kurosawa is a Japanese filmmaker who has directed more than 20 films in his 38 years of filmmaking and has tasted almost every genre in cinema, including charisma! He is an underrated and spellbinding filmmaker, and his obsession with genre cinema makes him an eccentric in world cinema. V-Cinema shaped him as a challenging filmmaker, and that’s where his perception unfolded. His three films were screened at the Cannes, Berlin, and Venice film festivals in 1999. He has been identified as a “J-Horror (Japanese Horror)” filmmaker, but neither he nor we have acknowledged it! Maybe, through these essays, one can perceive him.
Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s films are about personal identity, and he seeks the unknown fear of oneself. His concealed spirits coexist with us forever, and we cannot locate a door to get rid of them. Couples and Tokyo are recurring motifs in his films. An extended written essay on Kiyoshi Kurosawa will be published soon.
