Spider was already stung and paralyzed.
From Rio Broncini, Caranavi-Bolivia 19.jan.2017. Altitude 700m.
Wandering spider maybe a Phoneutria fera or reidyi?. Spider wasp family Pompilidae, species unknown, any help appreciated. Spider was already stung and paralyzed.

Brazilian Wandering spiders are among the most venomous, largest and aggressive spiders in the world but when it comes to a tarantula hawk wasp, they will lose every time.

Not a tarantula hawk, and wandering spiders are definitely not the largest nor the most aggressive. But you’re right about them being the most venomous.

That wasp puts some serious work in to lay ONE egg. It had to drag that big ass spider over rocks and sand and avoid predators all at the same time. That is honestly amazing

The wasp is Priochilus sp. One of the prey families recorded for Priochilus is Ctenidae, which are the Wandering Spiders.

More often than not, they both end up taken off the census. The Wandering Spider outright ends the Cazadore, while the Wandering Spider gets game over'd by starvation due to the paralysis inducing venom of the wasp.

Not in the video. Seen it a few times, but very difficult to get on video. These wasps dive very fast to sting when it has a target.

My boys and I used to watch a wasp species on our walk to the bus stop that did this. we would notice a paralyzed spider first then look for a wee hole being dug by a black and red wasp, when she was satisfied she would drag it into the hole, lay an egg on it bury it and fly off for her next victim...fascinating.

@@thehighestorder2868 It must not have been a parasitoid wasp that was capable of fighting through the webs. Wasps that are evolved to target spiders are also frequently evolved to deal with webs no problem.

Actually the tarantula hawk intentionally avoids all web spiders because that's a gaurantee 💯 defeat. There are you tube videos of tarantula hawks caught up in spider webs, they never escape.

Jamie Sehdev my name is Jamie Smith. I have amazingly seen two cases where the spider fs the hunting was up. One a trantula s hairs are penertrating the wasp then it runs at it biting it. Then the wasp ran of in fear. The second was a aggresive web building spider manage to trap two big hunting wasp twice the size of him or her and they where spewing being taken advantage of and in the end he or she had months supply of food ahaha.

Jamie Sehdev Looks like when the wasp hunts the spider he wins every time. But if the spider sees a wasp (not necessarily a pregnant one), sneaks up on it or webs it, spidey wins. Crazy.

Jamie Sehdev only if its a terrestrial hunter spider. If its a web building, jumping, or spitting spider the odds are significantly better for the spider.

I doubt it, these wasps hunt spiders, they know how to kill a spider, most such wasps know how to do it. There has to be a balance in nature, its like paper rock scissor thing.

smilsmff it's a jewell wasp they sedate the prey take them back to their base and inject there lava into it and when their lava grows up it eats the prey from the inside out
