So does anyone know why they ask for his name? Do they then pass the purchased wand behind the wall and have someone engrave their name while they stall for time?
They actually keep a book with all the names and the wand that "chose" them. (Patrons sometimes go back and ask if they don't purchase their wand the day of.)

No. No engraving. Just a log book. It is a book & movie reference and the JK Rowling Estate is very involved with the productions and likes to keep as many of the references as accurate as possible.
+Theme Park Attraction Dude, seriously. There is no engraving on the wand whatsoever. The only reason they ask for your name is to keep a log of all the people who come in.
+Daniel Villanueva the show is 7 minutes long give or take, the wands cost about 50 bucks each(cost to produce, probably half) but do the math, they would lose a lot of money. You have to think about it from a business standpoint.
I bought a non-interactive Hermione Granger wand at Olivanders this year in May with my own money. Did you know that I look a little bit like Ron's girlfriend/wife, because of the curls in my hair? It's too bad that there aren't any interactive and non-interactive wands made to look like my made up character, Hope Feelgood. It would be white with vines on it like her best friend, Hermione's wand. I made up a wand and a character, but I don't know why a replica of a wand shop like this one doesn't sell them for some reason. Nicely done! This fake prop might be used as an accessory for my Evil Hope costume for Halloween 2016 as mentioned in my song, "Hey There Hope Feelgood" which is sung to the tune of "Hey There Delilah" Performed by The Plain White T's.
