Ohh I was born only over a year later after this came out but I’m glad to have grown up on this music and at least it was real music compared to all the bullshit out now!
Few songs are as magically emblematic of that fantastically undying decade, the 80s. So heavenly, so beautifully reflective, & so powerfully evocative, music like this takes me to another dimension of feeling & consciousness, lifting my spirits to these dreamy & surreal heights of rapture & excitement, all while resonating to the depths of my soul with a power & poignancy that is all healing, & in a manner that few other songs could emulate. Amazing, transcendent & wonderfully nostalgic, this masterpiece brings the 80s back to life!
Early May 1984. I’m sitting with my back against a big pine tree in NC. SSG King throws a brown bag at me. I say, “What’s this?” He says, “MRE. The new rations.” This song was playing from a parked POV a few meters from me. It was my first MRE and the first time I heard Dance Hall Days. I’ll never forget it.
Extraordinary song. The one that saved Wang Chung from dissapearing for good even before they could reach stardome. The song was written one day a student missed a music class with one of the band's musicians. Back in the day when they were struggling to survive financially. What a story! What a band!!
Isn't it amazing how good a song with a simple catchy top line, room in production for lyrics to breath, some counter melodies, no overload of 'beatz' and good simple singing without autotune or harmonised vocoder effects all over it can sound like... Please take note modern pop artists.
Take your baby by the hand And make her do a high handstand And take your baby by the heel And do the next thing that you feel We were so in phase In our dance hall days We were cool on craze When I, you and everyone we knew Could believe, do and share in what was true I said Dance hall days love Take your baby by the hair And pull her close and there, there, there And take your baby by the ears And play upon her darkest fears We were so in phase In our dance hall days We were cool on craze When I, you and everyone we knew Could believe, do and share in what was true I said Dance hall days, love Dance hall days Dance hall days, love Take your baby by the wrist And in her mouth an amethyst And in her eyes two sapphires blue And you need her and she needs you And you need her and she needs you And you need her and she needs you And you need her and she needs you And you need her and she needs you We were so in phase In our dance hall days We were cool on craze When I, you and everyone we knew Could believe, do and share in what was true I said Dance hall days, love Dance hall days, love Dance hall days Dance hall days, love Dance hall days Dance hall days, love Dance hall days Dance hall days, love
Amazing song, reminds me in 84, i was only 8, listening it with my best friend in his sister's bedroom. Secretely of course, she hated us to take her vinyls without permission ! i discovered a lot of good music !
Extraordinaria cancion.
The Kinks were also missing the days of the dance hall in "Come Dancing". Wang Chung's ode is still amazing because of the way it transports me back to the eighties. 🕺💃
Thumbs up. It transports me nowhere in particular. I just LUV the catchy rhythm and clever lyric. OK it " transports " me to YIN - YANG. You need her and she needs you.
I couldn't get this song out of my head ever since I first heard it or saw the video I love the conductor ahh those were the days when MTV was good I miss the 80's
What gets me is this is retro off of retro. The production value the song everything in this video was absolutely incredible it's probably one of the songs out of that era that just emotes super emotion and there are a lot of songs that I liked during the day. This is sort of the post disco era but people didn't stop dancing as a matter of fact it was right back on the way up. So thankful for that. Glad that I lived in a town that love to dancing and that town of San Antonio Texas. A lot of people would never understand the nightlife but when you're in it it is amazing. Wang Chung never forgotten. Everybody have fun tonight
I find Dance Hall Days by Wang Chung to be very enjoyable to listen to multiple years after first hearing for multiple reasons one reason is the happy and carefree energy of the song.
@@gmar7836 how true. The instrumental beat may indeed be mistaken as " carefree." But the lyrics and some of the imagery paint a decidedly darker picture.
Im definitely playing this at my wedding if i had a dream come true and these guys could play this song as we both walk down the aisle! Amazing song for true love!
Yes! I have a personal tie of this song to my first love which sadly didn’t work out. He married someone who I knew which didn’t work but we are good friends. She never brings him up to me. They have two beautiful daughters who both had babies this past October. I am not going to lie I still care about him but he cheated on her and that was crappy. I met him know it when he did it. But this song was in our Senior year and I will always think of him when it plays as it may have both affected our lives differently if we married.
Que recuerdos cuando difícilmente podíamos ver estos videos en la tv en programas como"a toda música" etc ,etc...y ahora los tenemos aquí para grabarlos de principio a fin y cada vez que se nos antoja verlos
I was 18 and living in Paris the summer this song came out, l can remember dancing around my teeny tiny apartment overcome by beat of this fab song! Ahhhhh.....the best of times!
Great upload! Brings back the good old days of the 1980s. MTV and for those of us who couldn't get cable tv the local tv stations carried clones of MTV for an hour or two of music videos. I was 10 years old when I first heard this song and video.
YEAH! This is the ONLY video version that was on heavy rotation here on Peruvian television back in the day!! By the way, the "VH1 Classics" feed for the international airing DON'T show ALL the BEST of the 80's!!
Am directly interested and agree whith you 51 year old and a miss so much that périod . I would always disregard this song because it was before the ghostbusters song on my vhs but over time I would treasure this over ghostbusters. But don’t get me wrong, both songs are bangers.
last song ever played at the "Asylum" nightclub at Brighton Le Sands. 1985 owner/DJ too stoned/sad to continue. he asked me to keep going and this was the last song i played :( wonderful times
Yes in my junior year of high school. The dance hall was an all night all people encompassing bar that several of my friends and I went to every Friday night. I told my boyfriend Fridays were for me and my friends and Saturdays was ours. We didn’t leave until 3 a.m. some nights because one of them had no curfew. It was the best!
