Once again we see that 39 is not retired age in table tennis. You have chances to win highest world class trophies at age of 39 if you want. Hou Yingchao once again confirmed that. A lot of it is because of the new LIGHTWEIGHT DHS balls, which is a little more lightweight than other usual heavyweight balls. Lightweight balls fly slowly because of air resistance, so that ball speeds are in range of possible human reaction. There for players can react and can applies various techniques in games. Hou Yingchao of course plays well, but these lightweight balls give him chance and give more interesting table tennis. Congratulation to Hou Yingchao, and beautiful table tennis. Japanese heavyweight balls, for example Nittaky balls, leaded table tennis to action contest, very bored and poor techniques, not game show. You should stop buy old heavyweight balls. ITTF must officially announce the new official ball weight , for example ball weight 2grams. The current ball weight 2.7grams is so heavyweight.

@@reinaldopessoa2603 Samsonov is 43, and is always in top world players for more than a decade and now. Surprising ability ! In this case of Hou Yingchao, it is special. Because Hou Yingchao won the toughest tournament in the world at this time.

Not a doubles match but there’s some possibility we may see them play against each other in the coming season of T-League this year. HYC will play for Kinoshita Meister Tokyo, JSH will play for Ryukyu Asteeda. Let’s hope the matchup happens.

@@IvanIvanov-xl6tz it is no dat sensitive tho... Boll admitted he changed hi play style becuz of his age. And btw Hou is not a full time ttplayer, he also works as a commentator. He only trains 1-2 times a week.

You're as surprised as he probably is but he did very well!

I'm not surprised. You need big leg strength to beat a good chopper. Otherwise your slow loops only set him up for kills. These youngsters have great reflexes, they are dominant in over-the-table counter rallies, but don't have the big power yet for 3rd ball attack and especially looping underspin. These youngsters can beat Xu-Xin but Xu-Xin would destroy HYC.

@@marcoborrillo8097 okay so Wang's forehand is one of the three strongest forehand in the world! Also you're contradicting yourself, Xu Xin legs aren't bigger than Wang's! It does help to have bigger legs but form is mainly what's needed.

Its wrong to call Hou as "past". He demonstrates very contemporary play, variable and hi-level skilled

Ben TheKeeshond you can check out his vids in youtube, there are a lof of them. Hou was from the generation along with Malin and Wang Liqin.He ever once played in WTTC in 2007. So don't mess with Hou :))))

I mean, chuqin is young, his opponent is a retired 39 yo who also played tough matches and was probably more fatigued as he's no longer a young active circuit player. So that excuse doesn't fly. Imagine playing a 68 yo player and saying you're tired in the final of say a B grade. Hao said wang was a bit injured which is a better excuse than fatigue.

Basquests he also said that he had to play against Ma Te earlier that day!

He has still problem with his chest and shoulder sadly, which is crucial against a chopper!

This actually reminds me of many of Xu Xin's signature shots.

@@felmusik5043 Well, I had my practice yesterday, and I had an opportunity to try Spectol on ALL wood. It is SO HARD to have decent control on chops. I really struggled with hard topspins. If you chop with LP technique, witch is straight down, the ball does go flatter, but it is hard to place it on table. If you chop with more open blade, you get back spin from hell, but, since I was a beginner in this, the ball lands too high on the table. I guess, it takes training, like anything else. I have Tibhar D'Tecs, 1.6mm and it can create high backspin even with plastic balls. And control is superb. When opponent tries drop shots, I simply twiddle and push the ball with inverted, or try to attack with pips

djhumantorch d-tecs is very fast rubber I change it for Tsp 1.5 lp and is more slow but great control. So Spectol more underspin than long pips???

But, forgot to mention, I am more LP attacker than defender. Especially with plastic balls, you can not create more backspin with long pimples. From shorter distance, when you do chop block right of the bounce, it becomes tricky for your opponent. Long pips with sponge is better for attacking
