The Greatest Match of all the times. Olympic gold at Beijing the world capital of ping pong. 2008 was the year where all the legendary tennis table players were in activity. Congrats Monsieur Ma Lin !
listen to the chinese commentators, they hire ex-champions or coaches as guest commentator. In chinese, there's a saying 内行看门道,外行看热闹。 Meaning insiders appreciate skills, outsiders appreciate thrill. Obviously, many commentators are outsiders.
@@ecashmarketing thats what they should do indeed, get the top players to commentate, I feel like the ITTF doesnt care too much about their work though they just treat it too poorly in general
I'm watching this in 2022 and the match was so action-packed. I watched it knowing Wang Hao never won an Olympic singles gold medal but I still felt so bad for him seeing him lose. The last match was totally suspense-filled. I love Wang Hao and hope to play reverse penhold backhand as well as he does someday.
@Miller Hansen it depends on different person, it's incredible for anyone but not him, he was a table tennis king back in the days, but Olympic was just not his game
Great idea to retrospectively announce events. This format has potential to really give incredible commentary since it's not happening in real time. There could be point by point detail on technique, execution, stats, and biographical tid bits.
In this match Ma Lin is using the Yasaka Ma Lin Extra Offensive blade with the DHS Skyline NEO TG2 on the forehand and the Butterfly Bryce Speed FX on the backhand side, in case anyone is wanting to use a setup that won a gold medal. Mind you, they were using the 40mm celluloid ball back in 2008. It's spinnier and a bit faster than the modern ABS 40+ ball. Nevertheless, this setup is one of the best of all-time. Almost any level player can use it and it's not too expensive either.
Zhang Jike was playing exceptionally great in 2012 or else Wang Hao could have got his Gold medal in 2012. It's unfortunate to see such a great player stranded with 3 singles Silver.
@@reinaldopessoa2603 > 12 years... You have to prove yourself among incredibly brutal Chinese competition to even get to the Olympics. It's not like he just started playing just before his first Olympics and then just happened to fall into a spot.
@@CalvinAytch but we weren't talking about proving yourself to stay relevant, he said staying in form to reach finals at all three Olympics. A Chinese player of Wang's caliber was probably in form at age 14 so proving ground would be a lot longer.
Thanks for doing what the official ITTF can't do, uploading a nice quality piece of history, LOVE the crowd, chinese really jump out of theirs seats with every point, we should learn from them. Also love chinese players, there are no comparison to them
Oh yes, definitely. His footwork, oversight and amazing services made him one of the best of all time. He and his teammates are espacially continued and strengthened Chinas evident and continuing dominance.
Two of four legendary C-Pen players (besides XX and Liu Guoliang), that totally deserves their thrones in the Hall of table tennis fame! Huge forehand vs perfect RPB... What a battle! Penhold - one love!
Idk about never. I doubt penhold will ever die (there will be at least 1 or 2 folks using it) while table tennis is around, but it would just be rare to see.
@@joshuaellis7121 Yes there are still one or two top Asian players using the grip but the chances of two of them making a major final are about zero. I play penhold and that works for me as a club player but at the top levels, due to rubber and bat technology, shakehanders can generate too much power and spin and exploit the grip's weaknesses too easily. For me it's a shame because penholders always bring a different dimension to the game. Tactically, without the different grips and defensive players around, the top end of the game has become a bit stale.
I know it’s harsh, but no one really owes him any title. He’s the only Chinese player who participated in Olympic Games for 3 times, but he never seized his opportunities. I love him a lot but that’s the truth.
The same fake for Badminton Lee Chong Wei, 3 Olympic final but failed to nail the gold! 😭. Nevertheless, lcw and Wang Hao still the legends in their area!
21:00 I believe, Ma Lin was like: [Sorry, Mister, but I have seriously no idea what you're talking. I just gonna smile and read the RU-vid comments what he said]
Must be difficult to commentate a prerecorded VOD that keeps jumping a few points ahead! Would have liked to see the full VOD with original commentary :)
When decisive moments come you gotto be ready. Somehow WH never been ready for those moments. He has lost so many finals. Mental toughness is the most important skill in sport, you gotta train that hard.
