As simple a dish as it looks to us, it honestly takes quite a bit of skill to make the perfect French omelette! There are many different ways to mess it up, which is why it is used to showcase skill in a lot of higher-rated restaurants. binging with babish recently did a video on a bunch of ways to mess up the french omelette and how to make a proper one. It’s a very interesting watch if you have the time!
Trust me, there will be a lot of people that can't cook a simple omelette that can impress a person. I don't know about other restaurants from different cuisine. A Chinese restaurant hiring a cook, the basic dish they'll ask a cook/chef to cook is a fried rice. Yes, just fried rice.
this is not cooking they are been this rude because they are teaching high level cuisine artist for kitchens not chef for common dishes thats why they are so superficial and rude because rich people is like that but in real life in high class restaurants 😭
Making a good omelet is not hard tho, I'm confused because I thought MasterChef was a show for pro chefs but they didn't make the meal look enticing and the "there's no cracks in it" made it sound like a beginner
Since people are getting angry with the whole "it's just an egg", here's a fun fact: cooks are tested by making omelette in order to qualify for working at the michelin star restaurants. And there is a very specific way to make it and you can quite easily fuck it up. Hope this helps :) Edit: can people replying to my comment stop bashing me as if it's my fault that this is how food is graded and that michelin stars actually mean something in the world of gourmet food? Just because you don't care about it, doesn't mean other people share your opinion. Just because you consider chefs and their passion for food as snobbish, doesn't mean it actually is or that other people do. Some people, like me too, appreciate their efforts. And you might as well do some research before you judge and throw mud to their name. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say nothing at all. Please and thank you.
Yess this! I am no chef but i love to cook. And every time I crave for a specific type of egg, it always comes out as something else. Eggs are so easy to undercook or overcook.
“It’s just an egg” is such a stupid argument to begin with. I feel like ppl always throw hands when it’s a mundane thing. Why would it “just being an egg” mean there’s no standards?
My mom cooks it to perfection every time with a blindfold on. It an omelette. The easiest stuff to make. No matter how cook it you just can't go wrong.
@saranyasaha7274 how bout you try to make it instead of vouch for your mom only? Your mom has been cooking for many years now, hasn't she? Yes, you can perfect the omelette, nobody said you can't, just that it is difficult to hit the right and required consistency. I've made my fair share of messed up omelettes before understanding what I was doing wrong
"Fuck it up" how it looks really doesn't matter at all. If it tastes good then who give af. This big ass chefs are a joke tbh. You can like what you want but food is literally an opinion on if you like it or not and they think they know absolutely everything. I agree they know how things should be cooks and if they are of quality or not but if a place uses quality ingredients and makes it with love who cares how it looks. These chefs would act like if aomething looks bad it's bad and that's why there is multiple examples of chefs saying it looks horrendous but tastes amazing. It really doesn't matter how it looks
Oh this girl is a savage! She is not even trained and works with her dad in his tile fitting business. Her favourite vegetable is BEETS! Literally and she has so much finesse and class in her cooking. You should watch the whole season! she wins
He seems great but you can tell he's a bit egotistical. He has a thing for putting confident people down. I personally prefer chef Michael over the rest.
Good lord. It's a competition with standardized expectations. No one, not even the show, is forcing nor expecting you (an audience member) to cook perfectly at a technical and skillful level. You're not a contestant, calm down. I don't know what you're crying about.
@@icantswim8657 mainly because eggs can easily be over or under cooked and you can make them in multiple different ways. When doing a stage you can tell how the chef cooks, she kinda admitted herself she just was trying to get it done which means she's not a perfectionist among other qualities that may be a benefit or a hindrance. It's technically the hardest dish to do perfectly every time which is why most people use it to judge even in culinary school 🤷🏽♀️ Long story short, it shows how consistent you are 😂
@icantswim8657 anyone can make an omelette but probably not a good one... they judge many things including texture shape uniformity etc If I make one I like mine with a bit of browning tbh which woulda disqualify me from this sht
Pro tip 1= use a stainless steel mesh strainer. You'll remove the whites. 2= take care of the flame. Too low and the tamago will have grey spots in the middle. Too slow you'll have brown lines in the middle which indicates burn. I did it medium2hot & hands need to be fast..
Everyone commenting that it's just an omelette need to understand that it is a cooking competition not a tutorial for beginners about how to cook. You need perfection for such shows as there are Many people can cook
I doubt that me knowing how to make a runny egg will get me a spot. But she does need to build her confidence in her skill. I wish her luck in the next challenge. 💪🏽🙌🏽👍🏽
@ayishaks6510 yes, but cooking egg is different. It's not about the complexity but the precision. You can overcook or undercooked an egg easily. That's why it's hard.
She's one of my favourite contestants from any masterchef series. Being a kid and getting it done with mostly a calm and a collected way is by far the coolest thing ive seen across all the masterchef series
He is what a judge should be. Providing constructive feedback and not talking in a condescending and arrogant tone like that bald guy who doesn't know how to cook.
Oh, my God. She cooked an egg without it being running. She's like the most amazing cook in the world. I can see why she's on the show. She's probably one of the very few kids in the whole world that knows how to cook an egg
For the people who always says 'It'd Just an egg, it could be easy.' Bro, that it could be easy line is what the stars restaurant doesn't need the most. Cooking eggs, show how much patience you have, it shows how much pressure you can take, it show's how much you can make from a tiny little thing, it shows how creativity you can be. People don't start with millions to become a millionaire...
And that's why you're here. It's like a book.......... WITH SHITTY RECIPES...... Because that book is not yours This omelet right here is a whole journal to your whole journey to creating this meal A JOURNEY TO CREATING THE WORLDS DIRTIEST OMELET I HAVE EVER SEEN
That’s wonderful. If we all had such low standards for ourselves there wouldn’t be art or science or any human accomplishments. You guys need to understand that if something is good enough for you it doesn’t mean that other people can’t be ambitious for more because it brings them happiness to achieve new heights. It’s not their ego or being full of themselves or vain, some people get joy out of discovering new boundaries to break. Please respect it.
I love when the chefs offer actual constructive criticism. theres one i keep seeing who’s just a bald oversized baby getting kicks from being unnecessarily hurtful.
