Thanks so much Eric! I’m glad you enjoyed this video! It’s an amazing video editing tool that if used correctly can create some of the most impressive videos I’ve ever seen. The best part is that Topaz Labs is constantly updating Video AI, and by that I mean almost every single week so I can’t even imagine how much more powerful this software will be just a year from now!
Well done, Robert. I don't have Topaz Video Ai yet, but am thinking of it for my older HD interlaced video for upscale, and the slow- motion feature. Thanks for sharing. 😀
Hi @HaswellTravelled Thanks doe much for watching my Topaz Labs Video AI Review. I think it would work really well for that and there is a specific setting for enhancing and upscaling Interlaced footage which I think you would appreciate. Let me know if you get Topaz Labs Video AI and what results you have when you render your videos. It's always great to see how other creators are using this software. All the best of luck! :D
Thanks Rob. The upscaling is very impressive, although maybe the lion's mane looked a bit over sharpened? What I wish it could do is fix the bits of shots where I lose focus.
Hi Rob! Thanks for watching! I purposefully put that shot in and another shot (I won't tell you which one, haha) to share an honest impression of what I love about this software and see what could be improved. I've actually been speaking with Topaz Labs and hopefully, the nuisances that I noticed in the Lion's mane and in certain shots where animals and grass create problems for the software will soon be improved.
Another thought: Using Topaz Labs Video AI for wildlife footage really creates the ultimate challenge for it! There is often just so much going on in a video of a natural scene and it is incredible how it is able to choose what to take out and what to leave in the shot. It should also be noted that if I was to spend more time and play around with render settings, I could probably improve that Lion's mane to the point where it is unnoticeable. Another thought I had would be to use Topaz Labs Video AI and then try use Neat Video either before or after to take away pixelations or funny artifacts that the AI render may produce.
@@RobertWedderburn it's interesting. When I have the time I'd love to give it a try on some of my older footage and also on shots that are soft due to heat haze.
Excellent work. Thank you. Not exactly what I've been doing with Topaz but this was interesting. I've been trying to take my old VHS home video from the late 1970's and trying to make it not look the total mess that was late 1970's VHS consumer recorders and cameras were into something that is somewhat watchable. Video consumer technology has come a long way in just a few decades.
Thanks for watching Johnny and I am glad you enjoyed my Topaz Labs Video AI Review. I have recently been using it similarly to take archived WWII films from archive.org and upscale them and enhance them with great success! It's always amazing to see how versatile this software is and how others use it! Technology really has come a long way.
Yes, it is a superb app for enhancing video. I particularly like the recent Iris model that minimises over sharpening and appears to create more realistic surfaces to Topaz Lab’s older Proteus model. Also, this app now permits the re-introducing of noise and grain, should you remove too much in the clean up process.
Hey Micha, thanks for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed this review of Topaz Labs Video AI. I think this could work really well for you to slow down mountain bike videos when they are jumping.
Hi Robert, i love your video so much, would u mind to share more thoughts about this tool? What you like , what you dislike, what can be improved? what is your *ideal* workflow if this tool is improved~?
@BlueDaily What would you like me to tell you about? I really like how quick and easy Video AI is to use and I use it on a daily basis to fix videos that have snake issues that make them unusable. After enhancing them in Topaz Labs Video AI they are usually usable and then I can put them in the project that I am working on.
In that case, you would just cut out that part of your video in your editing software, export it, then throw it into Topaz Labs Video AI and Upscale or Enhance it, then throw it back into the original timeline in your editing software as a second layer, and you would have the part that you wanted to enhance enhanced while leaving the rest of the video as it was originally.
I've been using this software for 2yrs now and I love it. I would love to see how fast it can render a video using a Nvidia H100. I'm using a RTX 3080 and it's still pretty slow for some presets.
That would be interesting. I have spoken with Topaz labs and in the future it may be possible to basically just upload the video with your preferred settings and in a matter of minutes receive the newly rendered version, with the use of supercomputers working in their facilities. That would be incredible to have, and it would really cut down a lot of time for me as I use this software almost every single day.
My favorite hack is to not render the videos during the day, while I am editing on my PC, and when finish editing for the day, I simply open up Tolaz Labs Video AI and render the videos while I sleep. That way I have all the videos ready and rendered when I start editing the next day, and just drop them onto my project bin in Premiere Pro.
@NonLegitNation2 Hey! Can you tell me based on your SPEC'S (RTX 1080) How much time it will takes to rendering 10 minute 360p video into 4k resolution ?
@@ladlashahzada8998 I actually switched to a RTX 4070ti sinceI posted this comment but the 4070ti and 3080 are about the same. It's kind of going to depend on what preset you use but for 360p to 4k using Proteus it should take about 25 minutes for a 10 minute clip. Also, because the original resolution of the video was pretty low the 4K output probably isn't going to look to good. I've upscaled 1080p clips to 4K and sometimes if the 1080p clip was really compressed the output 4K clip didn't look very good.
@@NonLegitNation2Hi Thank you for your prompt response Basically I am planning to buy a laptop with an RTX 4070 specifically for topaz. What do you think about this one? Here are the specifications of the laptop ASUS TUF Gaming F15 FX507ZI Gaming Laptop, 15.6" FHD 144Hz Display, Intel Core i7-12700H, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB SSD, 8GB NVIDIA RTX 4070, Backlit ENG K/B, Win 11 Home, Gray I should go for it or not? It can rendering fast? Please share your thoughts I will be very helpful Because you have hands-on experience with Topaz Cheers!
Thanks so much, Ron!! I'm glad you found my video helpful! There are two reasons for me not sharing my exact settings when it comes to enhancing and upscaling video footage using Topaz Labs Video AI. The first is that it depends a great amount on what video footage you are starting off with, its resolution, frame rate, bit rate, and whether it is progressive or interlaced. The quality of the information (the video quality) the application is fed in the beginning does make quite a big difference to the overall quality of the exported video. The second reason is that you will really have to play around and find which settings give you the best results, and this will all depend on the particular video and effect you are trying to create. I would recommend adding one particular setting and then testing it out or exporting the video and then adding another effect and exporting it again, and so on. The reason for this is that sometimes the app gets confused or overworked when you add all your desired effects at the same time, or at least this is what happens to me on my computer every now and then. If I add too many effects, I get an error message just before it has finished exporting, so I generally try to stick to the rule of less is more when I am deciding which effects to add to the video. I have also noticed that my videos that are underexposed don't have the same level of quality as those that are properly exposed, even this creates more noise, so I normally fix any exposure problems in Premiere Pro, then export it has a ProRes Video and then process the video in Topaz Labs Video AI. If you have any questions in particular about export settings you can ask me here in the comments and I will get back to you. I hope this helps you a little bit!
Beautiful video Robert. I have just bought Topaz Video AI, but I haven’t used it yet. Please let me ask you something, in order to prepare my editing workflow. May I do the total exporting of the edited video and then treat it with Topaz? Or it is better to export one by one, each edited clip, enhance it with Topaz and then put the enhanced clip back into the time line? Thank you very much.
Yes, I mostly use Proteus, buththere is anew exciting "Nxy Denoise" model which is brilliant for noise removal so I have been trying that one out a bit as well since last week.
@@samirsvirtualworld Yes, I actually personally asked Topaz Labs a few months ago to please work on a denoising model for low light outdoor wildlife footage. I have a lot of amazing snake videos but there is so much noise in it because it was recorded at 1080p at 150fps. I'm busy testing it out as I write this to see if I can greatly improve some of those videos and reduce the noise in them.
@@RobertWedderburn i have big problem with low light footage for my 360 travel videos because 360 cams dont have great sensors.. ill give that algorithm a try
@@RobertWedderburn great i have 3070 with my ryzen 9..Topaz works great but slow considering the power of gpu. ..Why the latest version of topaz don't let upscale to 8k when output format is set to mp4. Works with prores though
@@atf56 that's a good question. I honest only ever export to Prores because I never use the videos as an individual video, but rather immediately add them to my timeline of the project I am working on in premiere pro. Your best option would be to export as Prores, then transcode it to your preferred codec in Media Encoder or whatever app you use to transcode footage.
Additionally, there is much processing that goes on to create enhance a video file, as well as upscale it to 8K, so you probably find that it would take way too long to condense it into a file codec like H.264 at the same time, and therefore the overall quality would be compromised or the render speed would be increased drastically.
@@RobertWedderburn yeah it works.thank you Robert. But earlier i was able to upscale to 8k with mp4 extension and the result was pleasing. Anyway, I'm super happy with the capabilities of this application..amazing
The software works great but if your trying to enhance videos for RU-vid, dont bother because the videos will come out blurry once uploaded to you tube, was a waste of money and time, not because of Topaz, it was youtube they dont enhance the videos, you loose all the good quality
Hey, i get better results if my videos are uploaded on 2560x1440p. if i upload the same video once with 1080p and then with 1440p, both look different on yt if you watch them on 1080p. i think if you use 1440p for the upload they use an other codec. just try it with a 10 second clip or so. But yes: anyway it doesn't look like the original video
Love topaz labs. They still have lots of work to do for facial recognition and keeping facial details when you upscale video. By all means I am not saying they are doing a crappy job. On the contrary, they are doing an amazing job on it, but it is still not there. There upconvert when enhancing details is great and most people don't notice it but it is not excellent. Your video at 2:36 shows this very well. At 2:34 you have amazing separation from subject and background. At 2:36 that background becomes more apparent, and your eyes just goes to that point instead of watching the subject. Enough of that though, I have been personally using it to convert DVD's to 1080p. Very happy with the results and cannot wait to see the improvement comes in the future.
A lot of it has to also do with the camera that the original video was shot on as well. I have noticed that it is good at correcting this, but the issue you mentioned above is a common complaint with filming on cameras like the GH5, the small sensor makes the image seem super-imposed and artificially removed from the background. I find this is not the case when I film on my other cameras, the RED Komodo and the Canon R5C. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you are also making good use of Topaz Labs Video AI. It's an incredibly powerful tool for filmmakers and video editors. 😄
It works absolutely beautifully and I have actually recently processed many GoPro videos and DJI Phantom 3 Professional video files that weren't the greatest, but I needed those particular shots for a documentary I am producing at the moment. I enhanced them and upped the frame rate from 24p to 30p, and they came out spectacular. Topaz Labs is an awesome tool for drone videos because you can also upscale the shot to 8K and then zoom in in Post-Production to even make a cool "parallax" effect. Hope that helps, and let me know if you have any further questions!
I have some great footage I managed to record from my drone whilst in California. Sadly I recorded at 24fps and the videos look jittery on social media. I'm amazed to hear Topaz labs can address that to a better frame rate!
Yes there is! Its called Topaz Labs Photo AI and it works exactly the same way that this software works but for photos. You can take a look at it here: www.topazlabs.com/topaz-photo-ai/ref/2013/
Well, that's all a matter of opinion! If you are using a big cinema camera shake can work to your advantage and feel natural to the audience due to the weight and size of the camera. With smaller cameras, this camera shake can be erratic and jarring t the audience and in most cases it is to be avoided as much as possible and filmmakers generally pride themselves in being able to film slow spread shots while showing complete control over their camera. 🎥😀
ngl. Sounds like a paid ad under the table. I've had topaz since early 2022 and my results are not like this. Maybe you chose bad or poor 4k clips but.. meh
Hahaha, I'm definitely no being paid by Topaz Labs to say what I say in this review. Are you using the latest version of Topaz Labs Video AI? I saw quite a few improvements from 2022 to earlier this year when they came out with, Topaz Labs Video AI V3.0. Now we are on V3.4.4 and it's running smoothly and I have been upscaling a lot of my old 1080p wildlife videos to 8K with really good results, so I'm honestly very satisfied with the results.
It all depends on how big you want the export files to be and how much you care about quality. I personally find that for most of my work, ProRes 422 LT is more than good enough for my editing needs, but you might want to use a higher quality like MQ if you are working on something that requires a lot better quality. I honestly can't see the difference in my videos, so for now for most of my projects I export the videos in ProRes 422 LT, as you can see in the descriptions I gave in the before and after of each video that I enhanced in this Topaz Video AI Review. I hope that helps!
