Just remember to breath out your nose. If you’re not then you inhaling a 12” column of carbon dioxide before any oxygen and over time it will damage your lungs.
The snorkels with the purge valves are worthless since you can't use the valve without your finger to plug up the hole on top. Bent tube is much better and much easier to clear. I always use them for my kicking drills rather than the kick board because to use the kick board, you use bad body position/posture and can't properly engage your hips.
Either the snorkels you’ve used are poorly made or you’re using the purge valve wrong or expecting it to do something it’s not designed for. Purge valve or not a hard blast of air is required to clear the pipe. The valve is just there to allow for less force as the water column is shorter.
I have settled on the Arena snorkels. They are a tiny bit longer than the Finis. The purge valve will get rid of about half of the water in the bottom of a snorkel, it doesn't clear all of the water out. With the bent tube ones and no purge valve, less than half a breath will clear out all of the water. I stand by my statement. The purge valve works best if the top of the snorkel is plugged.
I have a question, is it possible to practice swimming using side mounted snorkel instead of front mounted ones? The side mounted ones are mostly full dry system
Not bad, I have the Finis. You’ve just to plan ahead for waves and understand it’s not SCUBA gear you gotta pay attention and prepare your breathing so you can blow it clear after passing through a wave.
So useful this video. I have seen this many times. I wonder that I become a dependent on snorkel because with a snorkel I can swim many laps of breastroke without getting tired, but without a snorkel I am so tired and neck pain just swimming one lap? So I can use snorkel all time when swimming as an assistant tool for work out?
Hi there, hope you dont experience neck pain anymore. But if it persists then You may want to check if your pull is too much sideway, so it wont propell you upward which might end up with the tendency to lifting your head too much thus hurting your neck. Try to get friend filming it for u. There's nothing wrong with using a snorkel for workout but the best swimming experience is without it, I guess.
Just remember to breath out your nose as demonstrated, is important you not breath in the exhaust gasses stuck in the tube when taking your next breath.
Can someone tell me weather the centre snorkel training can increase endurance if I swim lots /high volume with it ?? As in, would I increase lung endurance from using the centre snorkel ??
Whatever snorkel you use will increase your diaphragm strength. Your lung efficiency has to do with cardiovascular health. No matter how much you swim if you stop by McDonalds after you’ll have strong diaphragm but poor blood oxygen profusion.
@@charleshetrick3152 Charles, I'm very interested in this. Could u explain more about blood oxygen perfusion?? In relation to even if a person trains hard but eats badly, they won't reach their full potential ??
@@na-dk9vm there’s quite a number a scientific papers regarding this kind of thing. If you google “affect of diet on blood oxygen saturation” you’ll find a ton of literature. But think about it this way, you’ve no doubt seen over weight security guards who otherwise have lean legs? But by no means would assume they’re having good cardiovascular health.
You can’t build up a tolerance for CO2, the best you can do is increase your blood oxygen saturation. Sauna is helpful and good diet and keeping your weight down.
I am using TYR snorkel. I have big problem because water comes into my mouth. How can I do to avoid this? Should I change other snorkel with mouthpiece bigger? Thank you.
@@NguyenLe-sl1tr Thank you for your reply. I try holding my tongue against the roof of my mouth when inhaling so that avoiding water get into my mouth :).
@@ngoctuyetpham2192 glad you found the way that work for you, sound a bit difficult to me :D. Which TYR snorkel do you use? Do you think training with snorkel is useful?
@@ngoctuyetpham2192I see, I watched the review of that snorkel on SwimLifeGuru channel, the mouth piece is really small I think, are you able to fit your teeth into that mouthpiece space? Im beginner too, just bought my speedo one last week and love it so much. Tbh, there're not many review videos about swimming products that go into detail on youtube
