Whoa. 600 Euro for registration? That's robbery. I am doing my driving license in Berlin and I paid 100 Euros for school registration which included eye tests and first aid training. 150 Euros for theory classes and around 1000 euros on practical lessons. TÜV fees for both tests was 140 euros combined.

That's crazy how different the prices are! I wish I had done my driving licence in Berlin as well 🥲

German guy here. When I enrolled at driving school for my drivers license, in 2002/2003 prices were very much different. I registered during a special discount week, so instead of 280€ registration fee, it was only 199€. I enrolled for both motorcycle and car. So I saved another registration fee compared to if I decided to go for motorcycle later. One and done so to say. Back then the number of mandatory practical lessons was far lower. I only had to do 12 practical lessons for each motorbike and car. All in all I paid about 1300€ for both together.

German person here: You don't have to take 30 practical essons! You NEED to have 12 special lessons as per law. I did it with these 12 and passed my exam. I got my drivers license in 2008 and I paid about 1100€ for everything. Exam fees, registration, driving lessons. Per "normal" lesson I paid 18€ and per "special" lesson I paid 22€ in a big city in the Ruhrgebiet. 30 lessons seems very much for me, but apparently (the internet told me that), 30 lessons before the practical exam is common?
@nik-roshansirak3398
@nik-roshansirak3398 10 месяцев назад

My experience in UK - Although lessons are not mandatory to appear for the tests, they are highly recommended (ofc), however, the cost of the entire process is a lot cheaper. Approx EUR 150 for just the process assuming you pass your tests in the first attempt. The tests itself are comparable to those in Germany.
@alinagoldberg
@alinagoldberg Год назад
That's interesting! Thanks for your comment 👍Are the practical lessons also not mandatory?
@Gandhi2241
@Gandhi2241 Год назад
@@alinagoldberg nope. They’re not mandatory but again, a fresh learner won’t be able to pass their test (or learn to drive properly) without professional lessons.

Hello, congrats on your drivers license. Interesting video. Its nice to see how other countries do their driving school stuff. I'm interested in this kind of stuff cause I'm a driving instructor from Croatia. I'm not sure if I got you right, but I must ask. Do you have a specific number lessons (and how long does a lesson last in minutes) that you need to have during your training or do you pay for a certain number of lessons, let's say 10 and if you feel ready you can go and take the test? In Croatia it's like this: 1) register at a driving school - not all driving school's have the same price but lets say its about 700€ (some will include the health examination in the price of registration some won't) 2) health checkup - as I said already some driving schools have this in their registration price and some don't. If the checkup is not in the registration price then it's around 40€. If the school you registered does have this in their price included then it's free of charge, obviously. You need to go to specialized clinic to get your check up, they check your overall health, your eye sight and there is a written psychological evaluation. If someone does not pass this health checkup then they may be prohibited from attending a driving school and getting a driving license 3) then you have to take theoretical lessons in traffic safety and regulations that last 30 school hours (1 school hour being 45min) - this is included in the registration price 4) after you complete the traffic safety and regulations course you can take your theoretical exam. It can take up to a month to get a date for your exam and it costs 20€. If you fail the test you can take it as many times as you want. You take your theoretical exam on a computer. You have 38 multiple choice questions and you have 45 minutes to complete it. You need to have 90% or 108 points out of 120 to pass. There can be 20 to 30 candidates in the room and the examiner. The results of your exam are visible immediately upon the completion of your exam. You take the exam at HAK, it's something like your TUV. 5) if you pass your theoretical exam you can now start your driving lessons. Driving lessons take 35 school hours to complete. They include what you called special lessons. You have 90min of night driving (2 hours) and 135min (3 hours) of highway driving where you get the hang of the higher speeds, merging onto a highway, exiting a highway, changing lanes on highways, passing other vehicles on the highway and all the do's and don'ts while driving on the highway. You won't be able to drive every day, usually there is around 20 learners per instructor and learners usually drive 2-3 times per week. The reason for this is so that you don't get fatigued as a learner and well there are other learners that need to drive and there are not enough hours in a day to fit them all in a day, every day. Also during this period when you start your driving lessons you also start with your first aid course (9 hours in a span of ~3 days, give or take a day). 6) after your first aid course you need to take a first aid exam before you can proceed with your driving (practical) exam. The first aid course (60€) and exam (16€) cost 76€ 7) now that you got all that out of the way it's time for your driving exam. You need to way for about 30 days to get date for your practical exam. You take the exam on the car you had lessons in. The driving instructor is sitting next to you and the examiner is sitting behind you, watching your every move, breathing down your neck, waiting for you to make a mistake ... just kidding they are not so terrible (most of them xD). The exam itself consists of 2 parts. The first part is done on a driving range. The examiner tests your reverse driving skills with lane change and then a braking test to see if you can safely stop the car in an emergency (someone steps in front of the car or something unexpected happens on the public road). You can fail the 1st part of the test and the test is over. If you pass the first part then the second part starts on the public road. This 2nd part can last from 30 - 45min and the examiner tests your safe driving skills, your parking skills, road rules and knowledge about the car itself (tire pressure, fluids ...). If you pass the 1st part but fail the 2nd part, next time you take your practical exam you will only do the 2nd part on the public road. The exam itself costs 50€. 8) you passed now go and enjoy your freedom but drive safe Bottom line, from start to finish in Croatia to get a driving license takes about 4 months, even more if you can't drive regularly, if you fail an exam and you have to waste time waiting for the next. And it all costs 835€ on the lover end and it can go higher and end up costing over 1000€.

Hi! Thanks for sharing 😊 In my case, I only had to take 10 compulsory training hours (one lesson = 45 min) because I already had my Russian driving license. However, usually people take around 30 hours to get prepared well. At my driving school one 45-minute lesson cost 70 Euros (or 85 Euros for "Sonderfahrten") and you usually drive 90 minutes at one session (and pay 140/170 Euros).

I just spend 1000€ on my drivers license but I have to say, i was pretty good. I just had 20 lessons, the average is 35. For my second license I just spend 600€ because I just had to do the 12 must-have lessons due to the fact that I knew how to drive because of my motorcycle license. 600 for the registration is a loot. I didn't pay that much. The lessons were also cheaper. I paid something like 40€ per 45 minute lesson. I paid 5€ for the learning material. It was just one app. Stuttgart is a very expensive city. I'm shocked too, and I'm German.

Hi @NotJustBikes. It would be nice if you broke free from the norm and did a video of how you relocated to Amsterdam, what immigration was like, apartment searches, and your family finding work and such. The US is too car-centric with control zoning, and Europe is way more advanced than the US.

WTF you paid 3000 € for a driving license? ok the costs increase in years but really so high? I paid max. 1600 € for my Driving license in year 2013/14 in Brandenburg (Germany). i failed 5th times in a theory test and finally passed this shitty test. Practice test was easy, passed in first try. But i congratulate to your driving license.

What if you have already had a U.S and african drivers license with 20 years experience? I want to convert license from U.S to German
@gerdpapenburg7050
@gerdpapenburg7050 4 месяца назад
It depends on the U.S. state that has issued the drivers license; some states are accepted and the license can be exchanged without further requirements except of a vision test; others require a theoretical test, licenses of some states are not accepted and cannot be converted. Tell us your U.S. state of issue further details.

@alinagoldberg - WTF did you do, that you needed 30(!!!!!!!!!!) practical lessons? 😂 And what were the 600 (!!!!!!) € registration fees and 70€ per lesson for? Did you drive a Ferrari or Bugatti in that school? 😂 That's just nuts, they definetly robbed you, you should sue them! 😂 Or they took advantage of you being a foreigner and told you some real BS, you are only required to take the 12 special practical lessons by law, 30 lessons is either robbery by them, OR your sign, that you probably shouldn't drive at all! 😅
