Sometimes is not the tool that is holding you back to make your environments look prettier in Unreal Engine 5. It may be the case that you need some art foundation to make the right decisions.

Mao - Thanks for making this video. I like this approach as a starting point to lighting a scene. As someone who is new to UE, I've watched many "lighting" video's and everyone has a different approach and preference as to how to light a scene with many focusing on the 'technical' details like Intensity, bloom, god rays, fog, # of lights, etc. In the end I've come to the conclusion that it's 5% process and 95% preference. I like this approach of starting with trying to create interesting shadows/shapes - I think in the end this helps to make your scene look more natural. In a future video I'd be interested in your process/thoughts about camera angles and appropriate uses of camera shake with respect to creating cinematic shots.

Hi! I am a firm believer that Game Dev is just a combination of traditional disciplines that happen to work together. So a good painting and art foundation is very important, personally I’m not so much interested in the tools and the technicalities of it because even with the best settings you still can have poor taste. I’m not an expert on cinematics so I’m not sure if I can give my take on that but I do have some experience with camera shakes related to gameplay

@@maomaogamedev - Thanks for the input Mao. A future video on Camera Shakes would be welcomed. Maybe geared towards replicating different movements (walking, running, bumpy car ride, etc.) would be really helpful, vs. just a general/basic "How to create a camera shake" tutorial. PS - I also love your older commentary video's ("How to enjoy what you do and still be able to make a living", etc.). I also was a Software Engineer, and back in the early 90's (yes, I'm much older than you.) got hooked on 3D graphics and bought 3DSMax, focusing mostly on modeling for a few years in my spare time. Tools were very limited back then (and $$), everything was done in wire frame mode and rendering even just a simple Box and Point Light took an hour or two. In the end, I decided to just stick to my Software career. Now that I'm retired, I decided to dive back into it again as a hobby, and even though I'm not looking to work in this industry I find your commentary videos very re-assuring when I start getting frustrated with myself and my progress. Thanks man!
