Hi Andy. Without a doubt in this genre of music your videos are the best on the web. So happy I found you.

@user-du7qs3xl5b, @@AndyDacoulis: I concur! The best I've ever come across, see my other comment! _This is exactly what I had been looking for_ as early as in my twens. The teachers I found at a private music institute were all accomplished and hence expensive. But had no pedagogic concept or idea of teaching whatsoever and became verbally abusive if you dared to address your music needs as a student. Wow.

It's true I have heard these lines before from many many jazz instrumentalists.

Thanks for sharing, Andy. Another great video. Starting to learn this thing called 'jazz', haha. Your commentary as the video moves along really helps be to understand not only where to be but 'how' and the 'why' .. which is helping me put things together. V much appreciated. :)

Thank you! I am glad that you find the content helpful. And yes, learning licks won't help you unless you understand over which chord they are played. That's the only way to be able to apply them to different songs and situations.

I use the Dunlop Jazz 1, I find that when the edges of the pick wear out some you get a very mellow sound (my opinion). As always great playing.
@AndyDacoulis
@AndyDacoulis 2 года назад
Ah yes - I see a lot of players using the Jazz picks. It seems to work for them. I used a Dunlop 2.0 (the purple one with the Turtle) for many, many years prior to switching to the Triangles. Thanks

You're showing (me) the exact same thing I always meant to get under my belt from the get-go, i.e. outlining the chords with lines that contain the chordal notes. None of my former teachers were able to transport this concept, none! I bet I could've been a decent player had you been my teacher from early on. But heck - why not now! 😃 This stuff is really good! (love the thickly compressed lead tones, they do sound "Jazz" right out of the gate)

This is GREAT, Andy, thanks so much. Perfect for my level. I'm already annotating the sheet and about to do a little practice with it. One quick question for you: you are using the iii instead of the I chord for the I - vi - ii - V turnaround, and it sounds wonderful; how come this works from a music theory perspective?
@AndyDacoulis
@AndyDacoulis 2 года назад
It is a common chord substitution and it works because Bm7 contains almost all of the notes of a Gmaj7. It also makes for a nice bass motion through the circle of fifths): B, E, A, D, Gma7.

only one question why is the vi major and not minor?
@AndyDacoulis
@AndyDacoulis 2 года назад
The VI chord is often played as a Dominant 7th as it creates a strong pull to the ii chord (the next chord in the progression).
