So if I build a truck for 67,000 let’s say. Now if I take it to a dealer can they add their dealer mark up making it a higher price? If what I am saying even makes sense. Thanks Adrian
They can offer upgrades to you. And they WILL! You can politely decline. Auto Inq is 100% correct. Go to the dealer and have them help you build. In my experience, though, there is no negotiation when doing this. And shop around for the dealer you want to take possession of the vehicle from. A buddy of mine found a Cheverolet dealer that offered a free lifetime powertrain warranty (non-transferable), but he keeps vehicles for 20-25 years. Worth looking around and interviewing a few different dealers.
I can’t speak for Ford or Ram but GM works off of an allocation method for orders. So you go to a dealer and try and order a truck, that dealer will definitely take your order and they will go through the process just like you said. BUT if they don’t have an allocation for a truck then GM won’t pick your order up until they do. So if they do have an allocation the next order of importance is current option constraints. And these change every week and the dealers general manager will get a list every week of what’s on constraint along with what their vehicle allocations are. So if you have the allocation and then pick a bunch of options that are on constraint (it could be anything from floor mats to an engine option) then there’s a chance your order won’t be accepted by GM until that constraint goes away. This is when the dealer calls and ask if they can change your order to get your order picked up and the manufacturing process started. At that point your in and your truck will be built and it’s just a waiting game from there. You guys out west have to deal with shipping more so than the east coast guys but that’s the next most likely delay in getting a truck that’s ordered.
I had this experience. I ordered a 3500 gas silverado, managed to get everything except adaptive cruise and my top two colors. However overall spec came out nice. My dealer had an allocation almost right away.
I think I'm gonna be waiting quite a while. Have an almost fully loaded LTZ on order, basically all the major stuff except the tech package, and what I really want is a Z71 Sport but that's on restriction so they're waiting to see if they can switch it before GM actually builds the "chrome" version they put through. Either way, I'm in no rush but I am a little apprehensive about how long it might take.
@@SliderFury1 well if they went ahead and accepted the “chrome” version then I’d say that’s what you will get. It doesn’t take all that long once they get accepted. I ordered my 2022 model on October 8 2021 and I took deliver December 14 2021. Dealer had the allocation and the only thing on constraint that I actually had optioned was the spray liner. But I got it and it was a total of 9 weeks and 5 days.
Funny Story... I've been lusting after a new Ford Maverick for over 2 years BUT the demand is so high & their production is so low I have been reluctant to order one after my BIL had to wait 2 years for his! So, the other day I was thinking isnt someone with a Maverick fallen out of love with theirs yet? Does the dealer have a used one took in as a trade? So I looked and !SURPRIZE! they have a brand new 2024 Maverick TREMOR XLT incoming. So we called and found this truck has yet to be spoken for so we put down a deposit and it will be ours when it arrives. !
Great videos as always! Be on the look out for the guys over on the other side of Colorado.. the Ike guys.. I’ve noticed a lot of similarities to your videos lately.. I follow both your channels. Keep up the amazing work
@@automotiveinquiries9673what you do is way more practical for lack of a better word. There is no fluff. It’s like having a buddy who knows trucks and towing inside and out giving advice
Do you notice if you build a custom online it shows wood trim on the doors/sterling wheel trim after you add the pcx Custom Convenience Package , but none on the dealer lot have that trim.
Once you have the build sheet on your order from the dealer, other than destination, the msrp can't change. And once the truck gets in, ask about current rebates.
Not the MSRP but the dealer can charge more if you did not have both you and a manager sign the (build sheet) and buyers order with a final out the door price and write no dealer add-ons for IRO for the PDI. Though now some dealers are also adding a market adjustment fee, their way of raising the MSRP. Legally even if they sign the buyers order with the OTD and no add-ons, they can back out and sell to someone else at a higher price.
