The story of Seita and Setsuko, two young Japanese siblings, living in the declining days of World War II. When an American firebombing separates the two children from their parents, the two siblings must rely completely on one another while they struggle to fight for their surviva
This film proves without any doubt that animation isn't just suited to tales of fantasy, sci-fi or cartoon comedy and violence. This absolutely heartbreaking Japanese anime tells the story of a young boy, Seito and his younger sister, Setsuko, as they attempt to survive the American bombings on Japan in the last year of World War II.

This movie is based on the author's true story. But in the real life, he couldn’t be nice to his sister as much as in the movie. That’s why he killed himself in the movie to apologize for that. The opening and ending scenes are in 1988. It shows that he is still repeatedly remembering their last three months over and over. I first watched it as kid. In Japan, many kids watch it in elementary school classes. Those kids blame the aunt at first, but as they grow up, they begin to sympathize with her too. I enjoyed your video!! Thank you:) from Japan.

Thank you so much for enjoying the reaction, and thank you, and thank you for the info about the movies background, yeah we felt the aunt was in the wrong, but on reflection, she was only trying to ration food accordingly to survive at a terrible time!

Likely the saddest movie ive ever seen. Its interesting the debates that differ akong cultural lines over the actions of Seita and the Auntie

Yeah it was tough to hold it together, I could imagine so, the Auntie was really an antagonist of sorts in our opinion but at the same time, she was also going through a time of war with rationed food etc.

Truly a heartbreaking movie, couldn't stop the tears the first time watching it. Another movie I can recommend is Maquia!

I'd have loved to enjoy this reaction more but unfortunately I only understand about 2/3 of what your saying. Partly because of the sound quality and partly because of the strong accent. I'm not a native speaker though so maybe thats why. Still, just a thought, maybe you'd like to invest in some mics to improve the sound quality in the future.

Always a language barrier with our stupid accent unfortunately, we are looking to upgrade the mic's soon hopefully! Thank you for watching the video!

Who began the German war of aggression? Hitler did. Who began the Japanese war of aggression? Japanese emperor Hirohito did. They were allies and massacred too many people. We should not forget, the War criminals are responsible to all the tragedies. Why Japanese did not punish the Japanese emperor? Why Japanese still warship Japanese emperor?
