WAR Corsair New tail wheel set up test

Today I got to test the new tailwheel set up. All I can say is WOW! What a difference. It is by far the best it has ever been. It now steers as I would expect it to. I got in three runs down the runway., up to 40 mph.
After I shut off the camera, I suspected that my radio may not be transmitting. Turns out, it transmits, but my mic wasn't working. So I had to end the testing. Too many planes running around today.
But all in all, a good day of testing. More to come.

This is not an RV. It was built from plans, and has a lot of modifications done to it. It has a car engine with a gearbox that has never been in a WAR aircraft, plus it's water cooled. It has flaps, and no other WAR has ever had. Hydraulic gear retracts. The largest prop ever used on a WAR aircraft. If you have been following this build for any time, you would know this.@@brianeisner492

I understand your apprehension with the transition from taxing to flying, but what your doing isn’t the best in the world because with takeoff power, that thing will track just fine down the runway. Landing will be just fine as well, and I recommend a wheel landing, with my hours in the WAR 190. Once you get used to this bird, you’re going to realize this fast taxing was a waste of time. Please don’t think I’m negative here. I’m one of your biggest fans and can’t wait to see you fly her

How FUN ! Thank you for sharing. Hope you're enjoying the fruits of your labors. Let's see, you may have said this already -- engines for aviation typically have a time between major overhaul requirement. What is yours ? Taxi to 40 mph would seem to be enough to lift the tail -- giving you better rudder authority as well as forward visibility. What are your plans ?
@Dynodon64
@Dynodon64 11 месяцев назад
This is an auto engine. The time foe overhaul would be based on oil pressure loss over time as well as cylinder compression test. If I was to force the tail up at 40, it may lift. No hurry, as I get more comfortable with it, I'll try it.

@@Dynodon64 that plane will probably fly in a 3 point attitude, when the tail up taxi happens, you will have to add forward stick to get it up initially. I was surprised at how much I had to push when I started flying tailwheels, also they handle better with more rudder authority once the tail starts to fly.
