Random shower thought based on this game. What if this game happened. And all countries release their top secret vehicles and then the countries mistake each others to secret assets as other alien invaders 😝
When the lightning revealed the tripod it was terrifying. Like a noght time tornado you cant see until u get a flash of it by lightning. Ive seen videos of horrifying night twisters but this brought it to a whole new level.
I totally agree I’ll take something like this over the genre zombie stuff any day that stuff has been super milked to death but this concept is very very fresh and new and I love it But hey in the end of the day iam a big Megalophobia fan and I do love the WOTW movie so I can’t wait for this hell I would love a survival game like this with Godzilla size monsters of toho well aside from city shrouded in shadow and EDF that is. This guy with this game is making one of my dreams come true since WOTW 2005 I will say that.
I don't know what you guys would think, but a detail that would be perfect for the red grass is that it has bioluminescence, that it shines an intense red color, so that the sky is dyed a bloody red tone. I say this because behind the scenes of the film, in the production design, they put red LED lights on some areas where there was red grass.
This looks great so far! I have a few pieces of feedback. 1) All super loud noises that you want a delay for depending on distance should have a delay set to 1 second per in-game mile. 2) (Probably already planned) As the days of the week go on, you see less and less military and other NPCs until on the final couple of days, where you are the final survivor. 3) Tripods should only notice your gunshots if there is not a louder audio source closer to them. For example, it wouldn't make sense for them to be engaging in a fight with the military and then you shoot someone a couple hundred yards away and they turn their attention towards you. Other than that, all I can really say so far is that for an in-dev/pre-alpha build, this is really shaping up well. Only real constructive criticism I have is probably something that you're already working on, which is a lot of the sound effects sound pretty low quality. But I'm just assuming they're placeholder.
Your criticisms are good. I agree, some tweaks here and there which like you said they probably already got a hold on. But I definitely agree with sounds, they definitely need some fixes.
Yeah, I mean, it's literally being attacked. I think a tripod would prioritize it's attackers first and foremost. If it's alone and not being attacked and hears a gunshot or loud noise, yes, it'd probably move to investigate and probably hunt down the person. Otherwise it'd probably ignore it, unless it's extremely close to it.
I personally disagree with the second one. I think that instead of the whole "lone survivor" trope, the game should eventually start spawning in new NPC's that could act as bandits or other survivors. Yeah, there will still be a lot of moments where you feel alone, but it'd be very unlikely that you specifically would be the last person on Earth.
Also i would recommend adding tv or radio broadcasts in the early stages to keep you informed. they might not be on for long but it will also build the lore and immersion too.
At 20:37 I was literally just thinking, “hmm he should make it to where they prove the house and stuff” and WHAT DO YOU KNOW if this game ever becomes big and is released to consoles or something omg they would be my dream to play this. You are doing amazing work and please never stop I beg of you
War of the Worlds remains one of my favorite movies and this game, even in this very WIP state, manages to capture those eerie moments that captivated me in the film.
The probe going into the house is what completely sold me. I was really hoping that would be added into this game to make it more suspenseful when hiding from the tripods. Great work!
I think what would help the atmosphere, would be adding more colorful clothes and stuff . I believe in the behind the scene features of the movie the production really looked in the wardrobe department to really signify that this is happening on American soil with American citizens. Which at the time the fashion was colorful and such. Also maybe each house just has photos of the dev team or friends of the dev team to add to the atmosphere of this horror happening in a suburban area . Also just piles of clothes everywhere scattered around. Just like the movie
I’m LOVING the use of sound and lighting you have going, especially sound. The sounds are the most memorable thing about the movie, and so far you’re really nailing it
A good improvement for when they're going through the buildings searching is to have environmental obstacles that you have to avoid, for example put some bottles on the edge of cupboards so that when you knock it or loot it the bottle rolls off and alerts the aliens, or some broken glass on the floor blocking a route to hide from the aliens, just a thought to make hiding more tense
Excuse me, for the survival mode can you please add the feature of events happening at certain times, for example, if a player survives to day 5 or something have the aliens start arriving or NPCs start to get more and more aggressive as the game goes on. I feel like that would make the game more realistic and give the player more of a challenge as the game goes on. Also makes you feel like there is impending doom and makes you want to embark across the world in order to find more of a safe place or to get more weapons. Just a thought.
i feel like adding the ability to turn the lights on his houses and the ability to lock the doors creates a sense of mild security and homelike environment that can help protect u and make u feel safe from other survivors but you kinda begin to realise it wont do anything against a tripod and creates a deeper fear of them.
7:31 had me going for a laugh ngl. Guy screams in terror at the tripod in the distance when he doesn't realize the true terror was right in front of him all along.
I love how the fights between the military and the tripods are so natural feeling it doesn’t feel like they just spawnt in but were travelling and and engage eachother I’d love to see the the battles escalate with artillery batteries airstrikes and tanks n gunships engaging them
This film scared the hell out of me as a teenager not because it was scary but because it could actually happen and we aren’t prepared for it at all. I’m glad there’s a game coming to finally let us experience it.
I'm really excited for this game! I've always wanted a game where the threat seems realistic and doesn't prioritize the player. The tripods are also true to the 2005 versions.
Unlike other fan games, this menu actually has detail, and the graphics. It really puts you into the position of Ray. Great job, I am exited when the game comes out on steam.
Looks great! Here are some of my suggestions for things that you might want to improve and change: 3:36 Because of the darkness, everything in this house appears light grey and textureless. Try to change the ambient lighting so you can see more differences in colors. 7:17 I really like how trees can be knocked over, however, I don't like the positions that they have ended up in here. There are too many trees sitting at weird angles. I would recommend that you have them snap in half if they hit another tree or a building on the way down, make them lose branches, make them get shredded by human gunfire, and burst into flames when hit by an alien heat ray. Also, have force applied to them when they get knocked over to guarantee that they actually fall down. 7:28 The grass looks... Alien. It seems to glow on its own and does not look like normal grass, because of how it clumps at the base. Try changing the grass clump so the stalks go straight to the ground instead of clumping, and try o get rid of that glowing effect. 16:40 The gunfire sounds could use some echo effects. That would help a lot to make it sound better. 19: 14 That stop sign and a few others in this area are on the wrong side of the road. 20:04 Those military hummers seem too big compared to the other cars. 22:42 It would be cool if when weed grows over doors, they cannot be opened unless you cut the weed with an ax or machete or something. I hope you find this useful! Keep up the amazing work!
This is genuinely one of the coolest things I've seen in my life, thank you SO MUCH for making this. I'm buying this straight up the moment it releases, keep up the amazing work! My only critique is that some of the volumes of sounds seem like they need to be tweaked/adjusted a bit, but my god this is stellar so far!
That probing section was spot on, It gave me Jurassic Park feelings when the probe was looking just off from your location, any stray glance meaning that you're caught
This looks awesome! I do feel like the sounds need a bit more work but i am especially impressed by the probe going through the building. That was absolutely spot on!
I just wanna say everything looks amazing! But I have one question,Will there be like little military camps around the map?(not like a full military base)kind of like a little spot where they mobilized but eventually got overwhelmed and had to abandon it or just got wiped out.And for you to be able to loot guns, ammo, supplies from it?
@@waroftheworldsgame9026 An idea to go along with this but maybe also first aid/red cross stations that have been abandoned with some limited medical supplies. Kind of like the ferry scene in the movie but on some smaller scale and dotted around the map sparingly.
This looks amazing 😻I am definitely getting this game when it comes out keep up the awesome work. The 2005 War of the Worlds is one of my favorite movies. 2:11 looked so good.
This is really cool. The game gives you a sense of dread but curiosity at the same time. It's a bit like Alien Isolation in that regard. Can't wait to see more.
17:10 those screams are horrifying 😭😭😭 I can’t imagine the fear she was experiencing while being abducted by the aliens.. Honestly $&#% Is terrifying.. my anxiety and heart was going nuts as she was being lifted up and into the tripod I couldn’t imagine us humans having to experience this I’m glad this isn’t real 😭
Lots of stuff captured really well. The Tripod's sounds, the distant gun and ammo fire. Reminded me of the teaser trailer to the movie when you could hear the sounds of the war going on over the mountains as the people in their homes came out to investigate. I can't remember if it's a deleted scene or a storyboard scene that didn't make it into the movie but there was one idea about the Tripods using their tentacles to pull people out of buildings and homes. Awesome work!
One thing I noticed is that it sounds like there’s only one sound that plays for footsteps regardless of where you are. For example, when sneaking through a forest it sounded as if you were still walking inside of a house. Over time if you get around to adding more, I just know it’ll do wonders to the atmosphere you’ve already been nailing.
People be talking about the battles and effect, while I'm here practically shitting myself from the probe searching the home. That was beyond intense XD
I don’t know why but sitting in the house and hiding while outside the tripods are attacking seeing flashes of light illuminating the room is extremely cosy scary and feels very realistic
goddamn the atmosphere is getting crazy good. The delayed sounds based on distant firing of the tripods is a good idea but in practice it just seems like the sound is delayed. Planetside 2 implements distance based sounds by adding a small distortion and muffles the sound. I feel like that may be a good implementation here.
Once I saw them add the probe in the building I was sold. That's the best and most stressful part that makes it soo good. The feeling that your not 100% safe
I think that the destroyed military vehicles should be cut in half or cut in pieces as the heat rays from the tripod should cut through our puny vehicles also another good addition is when the military starts using EMPs as they can disable any devices so the tripod may not be so immune to the EMPs as any other device unless the tripod's tech is too advances even for the EMPs to take out its forcefield or even stun it.
everything about this looks great so far, with more time and a bit more polish with the environments this could be amazing!! great job so far and I'm really excited to see what progress you make in the future!
It appears you are a one man dev team so very nicely done! My only suggestion would be that the gunshots sound more like knocking on a door or a nailgun than an M16/M4 rifle or much heavier M2 .50 cal
Holy! The amount of passion you put into this, needs a bit more polishing like the sounds of gunfire, how about tanks or attack helicopters, would be cool to see an apache spiraling out of control, or even just sounds of helicopters flying by. Excited for this game!
with some fine polishing over time this game will be unbelievable if it focuses on the immersion and giving you that feeling you had when watching the movie or reading the book
Looking great! Please put in an option to place minefields. I always thought this was the tripods vulnerability even with force fields. Blow a foot off the tripod and it's done for..
You are doing so great in your game man, i never think about a game about war of the worlds but seeing right now i think its a great idea and you doing very well!
I watched the war of the worlds movie when i was hella small and i wondered if it was possible to see a game that could capture that survival instinct of running away from the tripods, like the one you feel playing half life 2 running away from striders and as i see it this game is doing a hell of a good job, i'm looking forward for you to succeed with this project :).
Looks great. One thing the movie showed, was that clearly their legs must not be shielded apparently, or they can lower their shields to grab people up, so there must be a opening there to hit them with weapons. I always thought why not just set up a giant cable snare to wrap up their legs aka Star Wars battle of Hoth taking down a walker?....
I always dreamed as a kid, for a game like this, A game from my favorite movie. And now it's getting real... Thank you! Can't wait to buy, and play this!
ABSOLUTELY 1 MILLION PERCENT AWESOME! YOU GUYS ARE DOING A FANTASTIC JOB. CAN'T WAIT FOR IT TO COME OUT..... PS can you do us one favor? I think it's a little Overkill that they have force fields and you can't get to them.. just saying keep up the great work!!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Huh, a survival game with an ongoing conflict in the background. Definitely standing out from the crowd. Gonna be interesting to see it develop further.
Nice i had no idea a game was being developed about war of the worlds, it's such a great setting for a survival game. It would be cool if they had those long tentacle things they used to inspect the interior of houses, that would make make it a bit more freaky. Are the tripods destroyable?
This looks cool as hell and I appreciate the attempt but you guys need to do something about the draw distance. Either put mountains, fog, buildings.... something to cover up the emptiness in the distance. Feels like a game from 2004 when it looks like that. But otherwise great effort so far. I look forward to playing it.
