The “pull me!!” Scene is actually quite powerful. Considering we see humanity at its worst in this film (the car scene) it also shows it at its best. Everybody in that cage risking their lives to save a guy they don’t know.

Blame that on movie studios. A lot of them just try to crank out movies as soon as possible, but some film creators have enough power to make sure their films come out when the effects are good an ready.

Have you ever noticed how much more realistic the first Transformer's movie was compared to the later ones? I would think the better computer power today would make better graphics, in some cases they do, but in many cases they seem almost cartoonish.

@@daffidavit yeah, I read your comment wrong my bad lol I noticed around 2005 in particular, movie special effects more or less kinda reached a standstill. Noone really tries to push the boundaries anymore. Especially when you look at a film like this compared to one from 1990, then compare it to something today considering they have the same time gap. Its pretty obvious how little progress there has been.

When i watched it for the first time i was really amazed and horrified with how helpless the humans were, especially during tanks and hellies attacking. The last stand, suicide charge, throwing all we have at them and nothing but despair and an inevitable extinction. Yet once again, mother nature saves the day.

@Luke Wilson I admire your enthusiasm, but the point of the movie, which differs slightly from the original novel by H. G. Wells, is that the Martians were so incredibly advanced in their technology that nothing we could concoct would be even remotely effective against their machines. This differs from Wells's novel in that the HMS Thunderchild was able to bring one, just one, down with naval gunfire. In the 1953 film, however, the Martians' electronic barrier was so effective nothing could pemetrate it, not even a thermonuclear explosive. The comparison was accurate -- the aliens' shielding was as effective against nukes as it would have been against a child's toys. If not for the countless swarms of bacteria and other microbes present in our atmosphere, against which the aliens themselves had absolutely no defence, we would have been at their non-existent mercy and swiftly exterminated.

I mean the ending is not bad, but the way the protagonist decides to shoot themselves and the feeling of hopelessness in the scene makes you feel accept the situation and the desision they make. But in the end its not what you expect, its a twist that makes you feel sorry for what the protagonist have done right after he got out of the car then saw the military arrives while cleaning the streets and the woman in the beginning survived, Like if he didn't did a quick desicion and wait just a bit that couldn't been happen. And it made me shock for about a haft hour and its still one of my shocking movie plot twist ive ever seen.

This movie literally scarred me, it is truly the most horrifying experiency I've ever witnessed, yet it was so good I think I've watched it about fifty times. What it implies is terrifying, and honestly, it's an extermination, not a war. It is the most accurate reppresentation to date, and I reccomend it to anyone.

Imagine if this movie was R rated. We'd have more detail on how people are turned into red weed, we'd see people be pulled into the propeller of the boat, the vaporization would be more graphic with like a skeletal effect and blood flakes, we could have more cursing. This wasn't meant to be an action movie with a humanistic message like Independence Day or Armageddon so you might as well have pulled out all the stops with the terror factor.

Andy Og yeah exactly they didn’t had those back in 2015 but still they could have used drones to bypass the shields (I believe that only granades are stopped by the shields) so they can be used as kamikaze crafts or drop a grenade within the shield.

My dad brought me to see this movie in theaters when I was 3. I thought they were real and he would have the sound and a flashlight play outside my window to get me to go to bed. Also in 06 when I was 4 the scarface game came out so I got to play that. Loved it so much he got me the movie on my 5th birthday. I think I'm going to make it a tradition with my kids. ;)

Not to mention the overarching sense of desperation. Almost every scene was long, dark, gloomy, and relentless with the tripods pursuing and attacking the protagonists time and time again; just like a long and terrible nightmare. This is one of those films that draws you right into the unsettling and hopeless atmosphere of an invasion through the eyes of the defenseless. There is something about the depth in those scenes, seeing tripods in the distance hunting hundreds of evacuating people, and peaking over the horizon, the horror of the invasion doesn't just come from imminent danger, it also lingers far away as you feel empathy for those people, watching them moments before they die with nowhere to run or hide.

it is a very poor rendition of the original story meaning that it is almost nothing like the original story. Pretty much there are tripods, that checks but they came from Mars at the time and not been buried for however long. Oh and the germs kill the invaders. That is about it.

It's a great movie in it's own right, I don't care what anyone says.

Don't understand the problem of this? In panic situations it is about seconds that your choices determent if you are going to live or die. It's easy for you to say, you are viewing it from a screen and can make choices with your calm ass. In real life when something like that happens you react and run away as far as possible. If you run right, left, right left, or running horizontal how are you possibly going to run away from it as far as you can? Also if you see in the movie some people tried to hide in cars or buildings but the Tripod destroyed them easy, so the best possible way WAS to run away just straight as far as possible. And yes we humans do look back when we run way from something, specially to see if the threat is still behind us and if it is safe to stop. But also to tactical advantage to see where the threat is. Some people do react different in different situations. While we have not been in an alien invasion we can see these examples from nature disasters.

This movie used to give me nightmares as kid ( i saw this movie when I was 5 ) . I remember having a nightmare one night where I woke up in the middle of the night , looked outside at my backyard and surrounding wilderness and started seeing the trees move , I woke up screaming !! 😵😂

It's a bit slow but it's an important part of the story, you see Tom Cruise's happy-go-lucky character growing up finally as he's not only lost his son but now has to murder a guy to protect his daughter. Also, there is a similar scene in the book that takes place in a house.

The scariest scene in the movie is basically him hiding out in the basement. You don't know what's going on outside and they keep sending probes and then actual aliens go explore the basement, and then you finally see how they've transformed the Earth with all the blood spraying in the air. It was quite terrifying, especially once they were found.

I think they did good by "upgrading" the tripods in respect to the novel. Original tripods were tough, but still a late XX century navy could put up a fight, meaning novel tripod would probably be taken down by modern armies. By replacing the novel's black smoke with shields they made tripods an unwinnable enemy for our armies.

As a young boy I was playing a pinball machine in Big Bear California. I looked to my right and the man who played the part of one of the three men incinerated by the Martian heat ray was playing the machine right next to me. Of cause I'm referring to the original 1950's version of War of the Worlds. I also met Robbie the Robot from Forbidden Planet, sort of. He was displayed in the lobby of a theater I attended.
