The Japanese 12.7 Ho-103s also have a rare feature for .50 caliber machine guns of having a round with a little bit of explosive filler. Much like the BREDA-SAFAT machine guns they took the ammo from. Which is why they're much more violent than even the M2 Browning.

The Ki 43 was approximately the equivalent of the Hurricane in terms of performance but would easily outmanouver a Hurricane. Usually lacking armour, it couldn't take much in the way of punishment in battle, though some armour and self sealing tanks were installed on late models. It served throughout the war, being well obsolete in performance by the end. A joy to fly, apparently.

I believe the ki-43 was code named Oscar by the Allie’s if I recall correctly.

A little correction in the end of this impresive video, the enemy team lost not because of the A-36 doing, is because the last Mig-3 didn't arrive to the airfield and probably crash because of the dmg of the AAA, this can be seen in the 16:49 min. in the chat

A really good book to read is The Eagles of Mitsubishi, written by the designer of the Zero, it goes into the design of the zero and all the tradeoffs made.

Jingles you ware talking about the P400. That thing actually earned a Nickname in the Pacific - P40 with a Zero on its tail :D The pilots hated it.

The Ki-43 is also the only ever Fighter plane with negatively swept wings that entered serial production. They are swept forward just a tiny bit, like 2 or 3 degrees, but it still counts

Glad to see a bit of a return into the history of various vehicles, ships and aircraft. I absolutely loved the early world of warships or other such content where you'd release long form videos about that a specific topic. Such as the Warspite video. oh and obviously the return of more warthunder because it is diverse and provides a lot to go over.

I like the Ki-43 and 44, they don't have enough gun for my tastes but they make up for that in maneuverability and spirit.

If you hit "2" on the menu at the top it goes to the players view, basically what they're looking at, its easier to watch.

Hey Jingles, I would love to see a ground realistic battle with a whole lineup of Tanks and planes.

Haven't played or watched a War Thunder video in 4 years now, but this video I couldn't resist. The Ki43-1 was my favorite aircraft in all of War Thunder, even after I unlocked the F86 Saber I'd still go back to my Ki-43-1 as I could always count on a 2-5 kill air RB game every round, never had a bad match in it!

the ki43 is my favorite plane to fly by far in war thunder. super fun to fly and the 50s have amazing ammo which decimates planes at that low BR

P-400 was an export version of the P-39 Airacobra armed with a 20mm cannon instead of the 37mm gun.

Just to point out the A-36 Hawk on the enemy team didn’t run any bombs he ran the gun pod so KingofTypos had to deal with 14 .50 cals from that A-36

I’ve come to realize that I watch Jingles for many of the same reasons I still watch theGrand Tour. It’s less about learning about better game play and more about having chats with good friends…about game play.

The US Military must have giant stock piles of M2s somewhere. In 1992 we got a replacement for our busted and rusted M2 we used in Gulf War 1, with a stamp from 1954. Our replacement was a Navy M2 still in the original box from 1973.

The Ki-43!! This was my go-to Japanese fighter when I used to play WT, I found it so much more fun than the Zero!

“Actually Jingles” the end of the match was not due to ground targets but due to the MiG-3 being introduced to the deck prematurely. The tickets only go down that fast when the enemy team has no aircraft left.

Oh my, I finally get to do this! *puts on glasses and clears my throat* "aCtUaLlY jInGlEs... the remaining Yak-1 you described halfway through the 4 to 1 encounter was already shot down and there were only Mig-3's left at this point. Also actually Jingles, the tickets ran down because the Mig crashed close to his airfield, not because of grond targets." Also if you think the Mig-3 was bad, and it was, wait until you see the LaGG-3, which was underpowered and overweight despite being made entirely out of wood and canvas.

Off the top of my head: A5M, A6M, J2M, N1K1, N1K1-J, N1K2-2, Ki-27, Ki-43, Ki-44, Ki-45, Ki-61, Ki-84. That isn't counting prototypes. The Ki-84 in particular was an outstanding design.

Excellent show of airmanship. Its like watching a deadly waltz in the air. Absolutely stunning to watch. The way he just bobs and weaves and still gets kills put even top gun movies to shame 👌

Erich Hartmann - top German ace with 352 kills - only entered the fray on the Eastern Front in Sept '42 (15 months after the invasion) and got his first kill on his 19th sortie Nov.42. It wasn't until after his 7th sortie in April '43 that he started racking up multiple kill sorties. I would put forward that even at that time the quality of the opposition pilots and aircraft was getting marginally better and later improving more. Ballantime book "The Blond Knight of Germany"

But i did watch a bunch of guides on defensive flying which is why you see me dodging those going to shoot at me. Interest in the Ki 43 has increased in recent years, primarily due to the anime "Kouya no Kotobuki", which has this plane as its protagonists' ride.

9:45 Well, Hans-Joachim Marseille, also known as the star of Africa was an exception here tho. He shot down 158 confirmed planes until his death in 1942 and never served on the Eastern front. But then again, he was the type of fighter pilot who managed to shoot down entire squadrons single handedly while his mates just watched and counted, or having enough guts to steal his superiors car and then later coming back with a few women inside of it.

The Japanese interservice rivalry is legendary. You can guarantee that during that entire development cycle of the KI-43 they didn’t use a single part or piece of design from the IJN air program Because the IJN would tell them to clear off Japan had 2 air forces, in itself not unusual (the USA had 3, USAAF, USN air forces and the USMC) but these weren’t branches like the RAF and Fleet air arm, they were separate air forces using separate bases, different planes with no compatibility maintained by different ground crews and base forces, each doing their own R and D

I'm surprised Jingles didn't use the phrase "trying to win harder" when the enemy team attacked KingofTypos over his own airfield...

Actually jingles... Happy New Year to you and all those commenters on here. But really, the Hurricane and Spitfire were armed with 8x.303 Browning machine guns and it wasn't until after the Battle of Britain was won that they ironed out the problems with the wing mounted Hispano-Suiza 20mm cannon. The MkIIB Hurricane had 12(!)x.303 Browning's (as did the MkIA Typhoon) but this didn't have the armour penetration power required to bring down the later German bombers. So they fitted 4x20mm cannon in the MkIIC Hurricane (and all later Hawker prop aircraft). The Spitfire Mk II got a 20mm cannon and 2x.303 machine guns in each wing. But it wasn't until the introduction of the "universal wing" on the Mk IX that there was the option to have 1x20mm and 4x.303 or 1x20mm and 1x.50 Browning or 2x20mm fitted. An excellent book on the Spitfire is "The Spitfire Story" by Alfred Price. Loads of info and photos, including the mock up for the 6x20mm armed version.

When I read the book Blond Knight of Germany, about Eric Hartmann, I recall where he stated that victories for the Luftwaffe pilots had to be aerial, and witnessed. Not to mention they had to shoot down ten EA in order to achieve ace status. I may be wrong though.

The browning m2 is in service in Warhammer 40k.

i've always bee na fan of the ki-43, from the early days where japanese ARB fought russia quite often. you didn't have much ammo, and could couldn't dive with the yaks, but if you interrupted a fight or got someone who thought that they could boom and zoom you repeatedly you'd usually win unless they had 2 GOOD yak pilots on you at the same time.

Started watching your channel because of war thunder, good to see it making a come back.

P-400 was an export version of the P-39 AiraCobra for the British actually. After flying one, the British refused the aircraft.

2 things.. 1)Gaijin really needs to re-work the replay tool, its pretty bad.. 2) the camera work at some parts was more confusing than Uwe Boll directing decisions :D

The a26 may that be a Swedish attack variant of the j26 mustang, which was a rag tag of mustangs that at least some of them landed in Sweden and then never left? I think I read somewhere that there were a few s26 mustangs also, that would be mustangs modified for reconnaissance. One of those crashed, and I believe it has not been found.

I've been waiting ages for another war thunder video I wish you would do these way more often.

There is an old joke. Grandson: grandpa, what did you fly in the war? Grandfather: A P-400 Grandson: there is no such plane. Grandfather: The hell there isn't, it's a P-40 with a zero on its ass.

Why would you think the A-36 had bombs? It clearly shows on the right that he has gunpods equipped, which should just be the obvious expectation for an A-36.

The German (and Soviet) kill tallies were also vastly inflated by the simple expedient of just lying Some tricks included "give the entire squadron's kills to one guy for propaganda purposes", "count kills by number of engines, so a 4 engine bomber counts as four kills" and also a general lack checking if kills were actually kills like what went on with the WAllies.

The higher axis kill counts also come from an overabundance of allied targets to shoot.

The Japanese Army's Ki-43, 44, 61, and 84 are all excellent. The explosive rounds of the Ho-103s do incredible damage, and are nose mounted on the Ki-43. The Ki-43-II is faster than an early Zero and rolls significantly better. A don't think there is a better pure dogfighter in the game.

The KI-43? That's a great plane. With the air belts that gets high explosive rounds, it's lethal against most aircraft. It's also broken as all hell in War Thunder. I consistently get at least 5 kills with one when I play Arcade battle

17:20 - Jingles beeing crap by talking about the enemies losing on points bc the groundstrikers didn't do their job, while KingOfTypos watches the last flying enemy crash next to the runway in a nice big firey ball of death xD

I blanked and could only think of the fighter based on the BF-109 the army used and the land based fighter the navy rolled out after all their pilots that could have done anything with it were dead or too shot up to fly.

i feel like the ki-43 kinda illustrates how silly japanese procurement was, literally "i want the same thing navy has but i don't want to admit that by buying the aircraft so I'm gonna go through a whole design and development process to design what is functionally the same aircraft"

Loving the more frequent war thunder stuff jingles! Love the WoT and WoWS videos don't get me wrong but I find WT more educational and entertaining with the rip roaring, heart pounding dogfights XD. Also roll on 2321! Can't wait for the next annual WT video my leige.

warthunder content :O MiG3 is actually pretty mean in air RB. Gets an airspawn But is basically limited to BnZ tactics. Which isn't an issue for the 34 variant which rocks double 20mm cannons with pure incendiary frag ammo. Shreds everything that isn't armored ... at 2.3 BR ... which means EVERYTHING. Still wouldn't want to fight a Hayabusa in it. That thing stalls at like 80kph and outturns biplanes, no thanks o.O

Actually Jingles, lol, the early versions of the Spitfire and Hurricane had FOUR times the armament of this aircraft, 8x.303” (7.7mm) machine guns.

One of the other things to think about: some of those pilots were overpowered on the German side; By the end of the war, you either had a ridiculous record or you (probably) died

There is one other reason that the pilots of the Luftwaffe frequently had cricket score tallies, and it's the same reason for all fighter pilots and air gunners on all sides. Overclaiming "kills" due to the confusion of melee air combat, in particular air combat over enemy held territory. Most claims had to be verified by at least one other source, either another pilot seeing your plane crash, or the wreckage of the plane being found by someone on the ground. It's the height of foolishness to follow a wounded bird down to the ground to see it crash if you are over enemy territory and it's certainly nor going to be comfirmed by your own side on the ground, either.

Hey Jingles, little correction: the Yak-1 was a pile of junk IRL, but is borderline OP in WT. Fast, very manouverable, good armament, relatively tough - it got it all. On the last kill - the MiG-3 croaked on the way back because of damage taken earlier. That's why the tickets bled away so quickly in the end. This is clearly not a case of "shitty old man", you can't know if you don't play WT regularly. ^^
