A British engine in a enemies fighter, so just like the MiG-15?
@BoarhideGaming
@BoarhideGaming 8 лет назад
I like how he makes fun of that, yet pretty much all of the allied post war jets are based on German engineering
@PhinfanUK
@PhinfanUK 8 лет назад
+Daniel Taylor Not really. A prototype Bf.109 in 1935 is hardly an enemy fighter. The prototype JU-87 had the same engine, for the same reason.

Actually the Spanish built Bf109 copies with surplus Merlin's for power HA-1109 & HA-1112
@HBK-6S
@HBK-6S 8 лет назад
+BoarhideGaming German swept wing data did help with the Sabre and MiG-15, but aside from that nothing really came out of the German jet program when it was taken over by the Allies. Hell, the Bell X-5 was a violently unstable aircraft when the wings were swept in the wrong angle. For the most part, axial flow engines (see Jumo 004, BMW 003, and HeS 011) were all extremely heavy for their thrust output, while comparable Allied centrifugal flow engines were making similar and more thrust for less weight. German engines were also basically developmental dead ends, as both the Soviets and the French used them and struggled to increase performance from the engines. The reason why the French continued to use them is because they utterly refused to buy British and were trying to get their aeronautical industry up and running again. It took nearly 5 years for the Atar turbojet to be completed and while it produced more than double the thrust of the earlier BMW design it was based on, British engines were making similar amounts of thrust (~5000lbs) a year or two earlier with the Nene (which the MiG-15's engine is a reverse-engineered copy of). The Soviets also used the BMW 003 and Jumo 004, but when the British offered the Nene as a gift/for sale, they abandoned trying to make the BMW and Jumo engines work properly and started fresh designs in addition to using the Nene copy. As for the Americans, they had the J30 (also an axial-flow design), but it was lighter than any of the German axial flow designs by more than 400lbs while producing similar thrust to the 004. This was developed in 1943-4, before any interactions with German jets.
@packr72
@packr72 8 лет назад
+BoarhideGaming No since both the Russian and Americans used British tech. German jets were dead ends.

Hi Jingles,I have to say first, Colander is a friend of mine; we have a lot of conversations on WOWS, WOT and War Thunder and team up together often. Its a surprise but not a miracle that you have chosen his segment, he is good and knows what he is doing; we have had good conversations in the late hours of my night, his mornings over a lot of things...you see, I live in the states now and he remains in Europe, but thanks to the Internet, we continue the friendship. He was tickled about your posting his segment and told me on another popular site of social media, so I had to bow to his now acclaimed greatness and see for myself. hahaha. After all, to get on your channel, is an epic accomplishment in so many peoples eyes...you have a great channel!I know he is grateful you have chosen his segment. I'm happy also...for him. We both slug through Random matched games in WOT's that just frustrates us both to no end; like you, we are both veterans as well...I retired..so Im another old man playing to this day...remembering how this stuff started, how goofy we got when 356k double-floppy disc's were in for Commodore-64's, etc! Colander also knows a few of those good and historical games and yes, we miss them. Tremendous moment in his day, his week, his year...you've made him happy for showing him off and his game-play. I used to live in Augsburg, GE...and on an old re-flagged Kaserne, I have been underground and seen the craftwork of Willi's mind, up close, original condition, and, with a smidge of TLC I am confident would work with just oil and fuel. Augsburg is a great town, they really loved us G.I.'s and unfortunately, I was some of the last to stay there as we closed it 1998. I would encourage anyone to visit the city. The BF-109 soon to be ME-109, is one of my historical favorites. I even have some very unique articles from a few models of real aircraft used in the Italian theater of operations. In all my service time, I've actually met quite a few well known icons that survived the war, Gunther Rall is one of them; it was an epic moment for me, personally and it was not just a short brief hello...I mean, it was an opportunity of a lifetime with a living legend, and we had plenty of time to talk story about things. He was a very gracious and giving guy in his time with me. Don't panic over your pronunciation, if I can get it, so can you. Bayrische Flug-Zueg-Werk, sounds best if you say, Buyrisch flug-zoyg-work (obviously you already know from experience, the W has a V-sound). See you around, probably teamed up with Colander...feel free to drop a note and platoon up!05HogsRule.

When it comes to where I live, its a military museum paradise, especially flight museums! One museum has a fully flight worthy BF 109 G-14, another museum has a E-3, another museum has a HA-1112 (from the movie The Battle of Britain) under restoration to fully flight worthy status and another has a static HA-1112. There is a number of FW-190's too!

Historical additions for everyone interested: - The Bf 109's also served in other nations like Hungary, Italy, Finland, Switzerland and Yugoslavia. The finish, swiss and yugoslavian Bf 109's would serve into the late 40s or early 50s until being replaced - Spain built a copy/variant of the Bf 109, the HA-1109 and HA-1112. More than 200 were built and served into the mid-60s. These were later modified to look like E-models and star in the movie "Battle of Britain". - Czechoslovakia built a variant of the Bf 109 after the war called the Avia S-199 which served in the czechoslovakian Air Force until the mid-50s - Irony alert: The S-199's were also exported to Israel before Israel could get aircraft from the US and UK, so basically a variant of a Luftwaffe fighter from the Nazi-era was among the first fighters of Israel in the late 40s. Unfortunately the Avia S-199 was rather bad as it used a "wrong" engine (Jumo-engined designed for the He 111-bombers) Details of all this can be read on Wikipedia, the articles are well written

G-14 was an attempt to standarise the G-6 and it was earlier than G-10. The G-10 was a late Gustav with K-4's engine - the DB-605D and it was meant to be just a transition variant. The K-4 was a new Bf-109 with lots of internal changes and new features.

Strange how the very same day that I learn who Milch is while reading the book Soldaten, where I also read today about Galland and the Bf109 ramming attacks, Jingles puts up a video, which includes all of these things. Soldaten is an exceedingly interesting book, though obviously due to the subject matter (secretly recorded conversations between German POWs in Britain and America) it is quite grim and serious. I highly recommend it though if you can handle such things.

Very nice video Jingles. One thing though: the Bf109D variant did actually have the DB600 engine, with the E-F variants using the DB601.

Delo Kim Nope the british had so much problems with the FW190 that even in the english wikipedia entry of the Spitfire the FW190 is mentioned as superior/even and with the Ta 152 was shown that the FW 190 didn't had reached its full potential, while the Spitfire had.

A great training video. COlander gives us a great demonstration. After 9 years away from Slight Sims, I am now waiting for the post to arrive with my new Joy Stick. I will me in Aviators of War within the week! Thanks for a great news reel. Tally Hoo!
