From the Beyond the Dark Portal expansion. This is a mix of the first track from Beyond the Dark Portal and the first track from Tides of Darkness. Skip to 2:23 if you want to listen to the 2nd part.
In case people didn't remember.......on the original release of Warcraft 2 Beyond The Dark Portal this is how it was on the audio CD as one track (similarly the same was done for the Alliance track 1/1A)
Orcs were pretty progressive with their music back then. :-D I love how everything is so perfect in this and other Warcraft 2 tracks. It's hypermelodic, harmonically interesting and just listen to the rhythm of this track. 6/4 4/4 and 5/4. Awesome. As a pianist I just find the OST to be pure gold.
Comparing WCII's soundtrack with WCIII's is pretty unfair. They are both completely different styles and thus cannot be compared. WCII soundtracks sounds more like an epic (The first definition of epic) while WCIII's are more atmospheric. I honestly love them both.
I've been playing the warcraft series my whole life. Wc2 songs are epic and what made the game play fun. In wc3, the atmospheric music was more to bring you into the game with the 3d graphics and colors. I enjoy both soundtracks and I don't think anything comes close, except for starcraft and halo.
The Draenei are also explicitly said to have been killed to the last man in the manual, untul War3 came in oh and now it happened that you have different types of them now.
The story that comes from is being told from the perspective of Gul'dan, and as far as he knew they were all killed....it's not much of a reach that some escaped undetected.
@asmadeous Plus, the Admiral's daughter (Proudmore) was with the Orcs in Kalimdor. So as a result, Kul-Tiras launches an invasion of Durotar to kill Thrall and rescue his daugher. The rest is history. Hence: WoW.
@1eye1derweasil The orcs technically still are. But now it's about honor and redemption. Warcraft Orcs are the only exception when it comes to fantasy orcs (That and Elder Scrolls orcs). The Undead (And later burning legion) basically switched roles with the orcs. To be honest, it would have been very boring if they had stuck with the "ORCS KILL KILL KILL" So I think the Proud Warrior Race theme the orcs have was a smart move. That said, I HATE what they did with some aspects of lore.
@asmadeous That's because the other half of the Alliance (Stormwind, Stromgarde, Gilneas, and Kul-Tiras) had no clue what was happeing in Lorderon and Quel'Thalas. They, along with Ironforge and Gnomergan, were too pre-occupied with their own problems: Varian losing his wife and fighting the Defias, Synacate overthrowing Stromgarde, the Northgate rebellion, and the Trogg invasion. They all thought the Orcs were behind the curse and the destruction of Lorderon. --con't.
@1eye1derweasil And lore wise I don't think the tauren would've allied with them if they remained the way they were in Warcraft 2. Not to mention the Legion would've prevailed.
@0RobinHood1 In THIS game it was good vs. evil. Humans trying to defend their kingdom from an invading force. Maybe in WoW things are different, but during this time Horde was definitely the bad guys.
In WC3 you were refugees from all the clans not just Blackrock, in fact AFAIR your Orcs come from many but the Blackrocks who used to be still around in War3 ohh and be now possessed Orcs for some reason that makes a lot of sense now.
I'm confused why everything needs to be Black and White. I like the Gray vs Gray when they are secretly being played against each other-like story. Although, I love Warcraft 2.
I'm confused why it shouldn't be. You can have complicated scenarios without a "gray" setting, just look at the Tolkeinverse. Good and Evil are clearly defined.
sigh the only game ever played in my house even when i was a baby both parents played this and i still do now. makes me sad when i look at WoW though all that potential and all it made was another MMo
I had Beyon The Dark Portal and Tides of Tarkness original CD-s one and i was looking the was to download the Warcraft 2 soundtrack. But i always got the first one, without the expansion songs :(
Except the manual says that after the first war Elves and Humans used deathsquads to destroy the Trolls, and the fact that the W2 Campaign when you ally with Zul'jin expands on it.
@plutarch78 you speak the truth, however in Wc3, it showed that Alliance were the evil ones. Admiral Proudmoore broke the peace pact between the Horde and the Alliance.
Have you tried using DOSBox? Its a DOS emulator that allows you to play most DOS games with newer operating systems. It can just be a bit fiddly to set up at first.
I thought the Bnet edition was on a newer windows OS. I have the original version and dos box works perfectly. There's also a free download of the combat edition (no campaign though).
@BloodskullMannoroth ando don't forgoeth the epics when i finish my work i come back for you and say hello to my little friend *souds of a throw axe comming*
They can't, gay ratings, casual gamers and a lot of other stuff that would start to squirm if we were to return to the time where games had a dark atmosphere and were harsh and challenging.
I think it's kind of silly. The Warcraft 2 music is supposed to sound more arcade-y while the Warcraft 3 music is supposed to invoke a feel of adventure. Different styles.
