Skeletal Orc Champions are amazing, almost killed Maiev in The Tomb of Sargeras.

Azeroth was sealed against the Legion after the Sundering, so they depended on mortal spellcasters to summon them, hence the Horde and the Scourge. Also remember that the more powerful the demon the more power was needed to summon them, like Archimonde in the Reign of Chaos campaign. Then again, after he entered Azeroth, he was powerful enough to summon entire armies. All other worlds the Legion tackled, they destroyed and converted in demon worlds floating in the Twisting Nether. As for the Legion's mission to destroy worlds, the Burning Crusade... it was never explicitly said other than "Sargeras is pissed at the Titan's so he assembled demons to destroy their Orderings of worlds". Now for fan theory:I think the rabbit hole goes deeper. Sargeras was intented to fight Chaos. The Titans ordered worlds apparently to seal off the Old Gods from the Material and Elemental Planes, and Old Gods are said to be Chaos incarnate. But since they are linked to their worlds, they cannot be killed without destroying the world proper. So... the Legion just destroys ordered worlds and call it a day. A "forgotten old god" does appear in Outland during WoW-BC, but it's heavenly implied it had to be strenghned because at that point it was in the Twisting Nether and even then it was just a shade. This also shed some light as to why sentient races like the Eredar and the Shivari serve in the legion. While Nathrezim just serve themselves and Pit Lords are in for the carnage, this guys problably want to kill old gods, and this could also be the source of the grudge held by Kil'jaeden against Velen. Warlords of Draenor revealed some details of the Titan's action on Draenor, and I think Legion will explore more of the backstory behind the Burning Legion, after all N'zoth's is still unacounted for in WoW. In broad strokes of the Legion Invasion lore; it is not the Legion cannot invade on their own, and more that there is a lot pettiness on the part of Kil'jaeden and pride on the part of the Legion as a whole. The first invasion in the War of the Ancients was pretty much all Legion and they were beaten back at the last minute. In their minds, the denizens of Azeroth gave them a black eye and there is a lot of bitterness over that. The use of host armies during the contemporary times (Orcs and Undead) is to soften up the mortals for the next strike without tipping their hand; they lost once and would not lose again. The specific use of Orcs and Undead was entirely due to Kil'jaeden's pettiness and his vendetta against the Draenei and latter Ner'zhul - which has led to numerous issues (Orgrim Doomhammer and Gul'dan fracturing the Horde in the second war, Arthas using Illidan to sabotage the Legion in the third war) that has ultimately led to failure of the second invasion.

In the lore the Dread Lords can't just pop in and out of Azeroth like they can in these custom campaigns. They need to be summoned like any demon. Where as the reason why they use races like the orcs and armies like the scourge is to weaken Azeroth. It's one of the few worlds that the Legion has had to weaken before they totally annihilated it.

well I actually can answer this see I got the Lore books for world of Warcraft and the reason why at least what I can speculate is the reason why they need a host Army on world's to open up for the demon hordes is because when the original prison that they broke from by way of mad Titan they're still bound to their original world when they die so they need to have people open the Way for them willingly otherwise they just get suck back in to their original worlds

How do you make the campaing work?

Takes a long time to kill those Myrmidons and Royal Guards. When I was playing Rexxar's campaign I literally had to be resurrected about 5-6 times.

The Burning Legion wants to destroy worlds before the Void Gods take over the universe first...So, the reason why Azeroth isn't destroyed directly is the Old Gods still living on the world. If one of the Old God is destroyed then millions of the Legion's army will be wiped out since the explosion kills Titans as well.
