Sept. 11 Memorial Museum chief curator Jan Ramirez narrates a May 2008 tour of the JFK Airport's Hangar 17, where remnants of the World Trade Center destruction on Sept. 11, 2001 had been stored. With the building of the museum since then, the largest objects picked for display have been returned to the site and are permanently installed in the museum, which opened in 2014.

They did such a good job on that museum. Been to the museum twice and that little dark room that projects pictures of the people jumping brought me to tears both times. The quotes of people that watched the jumping are projected onto the wall. Saying they didn’t want to look but felt that they should bear witness to this person last moments. Just the thought of all those who had to summon the strength to do something they would never of chosen to do, but were faced with no other option because of fire and smoke. Just sad.

I wish there was a way to see all the items that were found at ground zero. Especially personal items. I'm assuming there's alot of things that couldn't be put into the museum, some were hopefully given back to family members etc. I have seen things on Google images but most likely they are in the museum..... I'm hoping everything was kept bcoz it belonged to the victims that were horrifically murderd that day. I can't believe this happened 20 years ago when I was 19 years old. I remember seeing the 2nd plane hitting the tower while I was watching from my home in Scotland. I jumped off my seat, I also remember hearing about the next attack & thinking the world was ending that day. At anytime i thought it was going to say something was happening in London or elsewhere in the uk, or other countries being under attack. I remember seeing ppl jumping out the building, im sure 3 ppl jumped out the same window 1 after another..... The next day 1 of the images on the front of the paper showed a man & woman holding hands, they had jumped together...... There's a video on yt of someone filming from the viewing deck on the roof of 1 of the towers and I'm positive it was filmed the day before, the 10th of September. It shows the camera looking down to street level. I only saw this a few days ago, it randomly appeared on my feed & I just thought, all those ppl looking down the next day having to make that decision..... It's impossible to imagine the horror of having to make that choice. To each of the 2974 people who died that day may you all rest in peace & I pray for families 🙏 every year

MommyTeacher123, yours is a reasonable question that doesn't deserve a sarcastic response, as one person has given you. There was such a toxic torrent at the site that one has to wonder if the items could truly be made safe. And the folks who declared the museum safe might be like the EPA officials who told us that Ground Zero was safe for the general public. And we know how wrong they turned out to be.

Exactly. A Kerosene fire does not soften steel that heavy.
@alex1520
@alex1520 2 года назад
@@smithrudy8780 Yes it does, its been tested and proven that a sustained heat that's hot enough will cause steal to weaken and bend. Also remember the IMMENSE weight the steel had to support from the structure above it where the fires were... Notice the beams are hollow inside? While they may be big and thick, impervious to weakening by heat they are not.. I saw a video here on RU-vid where an experiment was done, where exactly the same steel that was used in the WTC (exact same composition and thickness) with a heavy load on it was subjected to the same amount of heat that an av fuel fire would burn at and the steel buckled and bent after some time. I wish people would quit it with the conspiracy theories that it was melted with thermite and other nonsense like a controlled demolition etc...

@smithrudy8780 2 года назад
@@alex1520 "Bent after some time" ? From what? Most of the Kerosene burned up on impact. remember the big giant fiery ball of flame. Not much left to melt steel after that.

@@alex1520 Smoke? since when does Smoke melt steel? Oh, the other things in the building caught fire and caused immense heat. Black smoke means the fire is starved for oxygen, and is not burning efficiently.

@alex1520 2 года назад
@@smithrudy8780 pretty sure you are just trolling me, but I'll bite, now, you offer me your science backed theory why the steel heated enough that it weakened, please keep in mind that the steel was supporting a massive weight above it.. which of course is why the building that was hit second fell first, more weight on the supporting steel above the damage and fire

As I watched this video, I feel strongly that some of the more innocuous pieces of steel should be offered to communities across America to be memorialized as "sculpture" and a memoriam. While I realize you expressed a desire against this, you did not express any logical rationale to support your personal feelings. I, for one, would love the opportunity to pay my respects to those who died and be able to "touch" a part of this history without having to go to NYC. It seems selfish to me to not open up these relics of such an important event horizon to everyone in the country that were forever changed by that day.
@RangerCaptain11A
@RangerCaptain11A 5 лет назад
yeah, there's no way this could ever be confused with 'art'. these pieces are needed to remind us, and, as you said, give continual respect for the victims and rescuers. its how we move forward, without moving away.

Glad I found this, very tasteful explanation and presentation. I've never been to the US, perhaps one day I will. I know that when/if I do the museum will be the most important place I visit. I've seen how things have been presented and they've done an amazing job of explaining it all well. Hopefully, with so much presented in context, it will eventually put to bed all the crazy nonsense of the conspiracy theorists who still insist on insulting those who passed, and those who survived, with their bizarre fantasies.
