The whole Cernos deal is the "Who are you?/I'm you but better" meme. Or the Ghost live where Cardinal Copia introduces the Nameless Ghouls (band members) to the audience and he's like "We have Ghoul! And Ghoul. Ghoul. Also Ghoul. And Ghoul!". All jokes aside, I will have to disagree on the verdict. A new player should get the Cernos for the mastery and then turn it into the Mutalist and/or the Proboscis version. Also it's a good test to see if they would like the other versions of it.

I can't wait for DE to release the Prisma Cernos, Cernos Vandal, and Cernos Wraith.

I think that you should pick it up because you're going to need it down the line for crafting. At least pick it up and master it before crafting the Mutalist Cernos. Otherwise, yes, it's not really worth it as the Paris and the Paris Prime are better in my opinion anyway, and they are also fairly easy to get.
