Wargame Red Dragon: Basic Tactics & Tips (Skirmish Mode) 

Hi, yeah I think Eugen made a mistake cutting the tutorial, I know the old one was a bit dull but the game does have a steep learning curve. I may make some other tutorials if I have time certainly. With regards to smoke it is definitely important to use, primarily to screen your attacks particularly with infantry, however if you're just trying to stop a couple of high end weapons from firing it's generally better to just hit them with the full firepower which is what I meant I think. Certainly I am not saying don't use smoke ;).

How to beat the AI will depend on what game mode you're playing, if you're playing some form of destruction you'll generally win if you choose cost effective units (often the cheap ones) and pick a good defensive position. If you need to hold territory then it's important to get the faster units and attempt to take as forward a position as you can at the start to work forwards from. Remember you can take the centre sectors and then put CVs on the nearer ones afterwards.

blackphoenix345 Hey thanks for answering! I'm playing Skirmish in Conquest mode, the map is Tropic Thunder (I want to beat this before playing online). The best I could do so far was to hold the center of the map for half an hour. I'm able to hold a few waves of M1 Abrams with my infantry inside the buildings, but then the AI use napalm airstrikes, and the tanks keep coming until I'm out of ammo and soldiers. My anti-air usually damage the enemy airplanes, but very rarelly shot them down. But I screw up too, I usually tend to forget to replace the AA I've lost.

Sounds like you're having a tricky time, it is easy to forget to replace lost AA and the computer does have perfect memory of where your units were if it ever sees them firing. This makes it even more important to move units and try to maintain air coverage. It helps to have a mix of radar, infrared and AAA weapons. Radar gets picked off easily but have longer range and I find more punch, infrared can be a lot closer to the front and AAA can stun the enemy planes allowing your deeper AA units to finish it off. If you are in a situation where your stuck in the middle of the map and need to get further forwards it is difficult. My advice is try to get infantry recon as far forwards as you can and try to spot an opportunity, remember in conquest you can afford to lose whatever units you have to to get the edge is sectors so feel free to rush infantry and light tanks under cover of smoke at a sector.

blackphoenix345 Just did what you suggested, and I was able to beat it! I placed some shilka-like (i don't recall the name), in the front, just behind my front lines, some infrared missiles in the "second line" and one Buk very close to my base. Shot down some aircraft, damaged another ones and stopped being attacked by their aircraft. Started placing some recon behind enemy lines, and was able to hold the front and advance a little, at some point my aircraft could fly in their airspace without being bothered. Really appreciated the tips, I'm finally enjoying it, thanks!

Fuck it. I stop the time on "Bullet Time" sometimes. When it gets rough and hard to think fast. I use "normal'' and ''fast" speed mode rarely. I'm a new player. But, I played all kinds of strategies throughout my childhood, and ever since. This game is hard!

Same, really annoying. Especially if you play blufor because the helis r usually inferior.

You're probably right of course, it's not really a map specific tutorial I was just aiming at showing people a basic perspective of playing Wargame; there's a lot I didn't do correctly (and luckily the AI isn't good enough to punish me).

For me it's just with the scroll wheel of the mouse but you may have to re-bind keys in the options.

that's why I don't know, I make with the scroll (in laptop) but only activates a message flare xD I'm going to try with a mouse :D

I think it'd be quite a lot easier to do with a mouse, I vaguely recall playing on my laptop at one point, Airland battle I think, but I had an issue where I could only zoom in ;).

By the way, you show us how to camp. Now how to attack forward?

I'm glad you liked the video, it is fairly basic but it was just to help people get started. Attacking is a lot harder than defending but there are a few approaches. If you can knock out the enemy recon then flanking a position or avoiding it completely can be very effective. A simple transition from this defensive strategy is to gradually push your line forwards, often with recon and infantry units. For attacking an entrenched position generally I would say that artillery and infantry are often critical. You can use the artillery to destroy and stun critical units and to advance your infantry under cover of smoke if you co-ordinate well. I would only use aircraft on a heavily defended position if I was confident that most of the AA had been successfully sniped off; although having said that if you do manage to land napalm the chaos can be great for your offensive. Having said all that generally I find that attacking is easier if you are playing with friends because often it comes down to concentration of force which can be difficult to achieve without co-ordination.

The game does have a pretty steep learning curve especially if you play alone, if you play carefully and try to help your team mates out you'll find your own path with a bit of practice ;)

I am late to comment, but the secrete is to have two cpu on your side against two enemy cpu set on medium. That way you can take you time and have fun. If you play on your own with no cpu on your side to help, the game is no fun. AI will attack your base right away.

At the moment I believe it is generally best to choose a coalition or one of the major national decks; generally it's not worth picking from all the nations as a sufficient range of units can generally be found in a large country or a coalition deck.

You can also shut off your radar AA, and turn it back on when plane isn't facing it. SEAD planes can only fire at stuff in a cone in front of it.
