The reason why those Eisenkern Stormtroopers are a slightly different scale is that they were originally made by DreamForge Games. Wargames Atlantic has started taking over distributing a couple of their kits so far, with hopefully more coming in the future. Especially their big stompy mechs. 😁

The Eisenkerns are being re-sculpted in partnership with Mark Mondragon (slight size reduction and new sprues), so far they have released the Stormtroopers and Panzerjagers. Valkir (power armoured Eisenkerns) are next, although no details on how they are going to handle the original three kit options (melee, trooper and heavy weapons). There are also plans apparently for the Shadokesh aliens and other human factions. No apparent plans to release vehicles or mechs.

The difference in height isn't huge, either - a box or two of Iron-Core figures is a great source of sci-fi weapons, backpacks, shoulder armor, and other gear to add to Cannon Fodder or other figures for some variety. Hopefully the mechs, APC, accessories box (the one with the robot "mules"in it!), and other Iron-Core vehicles and accessories make the transition over to Wargames Atlantic, because they look fantastic!
@JMcMillen

@@pietrayday9915 It's not huge unless you're someone like me that still has minis old enough that they are actual 25mm scale. Those already look small next to early 28mm stuff, and are childlike next to many modern minis.

Valkir are probably going to be out before the end of 2022, according to Atlantic Wargames tooling should have started in september. I just started the hobby I am quite excited for those model, they seem of decent quality, pleasing to my sci fi heart and are quite a bargain. At that price I won't cry messing one with my lack of experience.

Maybe a future Death Fields accessory sprue will have what you're looking for. You should head over to the WGA forums and make a post.
@pietrayday9915
@pietrayday9915 2 года назад
They appear to be adding a few like that to the second set (cannon fodder ladies), and to the first "Death Fields Accessory" set - mechanical arms, binoculars, and that sort of thing. The "Grognard Accessory and Command" set also contains arms that are doing something a little different. Do stop by the WGA forums and put in some suggestions for some other civilian options, though - the company is pretty responsive to customers, they've got some of the best values out there, and they're doing it while moving production to the USA without significantly affecting their prices, which is something I didn't think would be possible! For what it's worth, they ran a customer poll earlier in 2021, before this set was released, in which we got to submit and vote for new ideas, and a "Sci-Fi Civilians" was one of the sets that got a lot of votes, so there's a really good chance we may see even more options soon! And, even better, Wargames Atlantic's model kits mix-and-match really well with similar kits from other companies, so you can also use bits from, for example, Northstar's Stargrave model kits such as medkits, scanners, computer tablets, and the like to make civilian characters - it works out great! (The Iron-Core sets mentioned briefly early in this video are a little taller than most figures of this sort, but not very much, and are another great source of a huge variety of sci-fi weapons and other gear, check it out!) The same mix-and-match capability also means that you can add the sci-fi bits from this or other WGA kits to historical or fantasy figures, which is also great: Space Elves or Space Orcs are certainly possible by mixing sci-fi weapons with Northstar Oathmark kits, for example.

I had totally forgot these were coming out. I'm going to have to spend some x-mas dollars on some Cannon Fodder and maybe the Lizardmen. I can see the Gas Mask guys being painted yellow and used as AIM troopers from Marvel. I mean, one box of Cannon Fodder and you practically have 3 full crews for Stargrave if you have a few other bits laying around.

Some ideas: -A Stargrave crew patterned after the "prison" period from Red Dwarf. A team of convicts sent to deal with problems their superiors would rather not. Get a robot and animal-hybrid head, for maximum similarities. -Zona Alfa group of escaped convicts, laying low in The Zone. Alternatively, give them the helmets, and have them be hazardous environment specialists.

My simping for Wargames Atlantic knows no bounds. I shill for it every chance I get, simply because of how great both their products and company are. They fill niches in the wargaming scene - such as their support for discontinued Guard regiments, or their coverage of historical armies not normally shown by most manufacturers - at more affordable prices. They even offer escalating discounts for buying individual boxes in bulk (making it easy to put together a large force for cheap), and have free shipping on orders over $50 (that's only two boxes). Additional points of interest for the Cannon Fodder box: -The "gas mask" heads are clearly full helmets. So in additional to Penal Legions or Planetary Defense Forces, the Cannon Fodder could be employed as Imperial Navy forces, hazardous environment squads, hard vacuum fighters, or Elysian Drop Troops. Or, if you can source the weapons, stick them on flamethrower guys for added flavor. -The squatting body could be combined with parts from the Les Grognards Heavy Weapons box, so they can easily slot into that role. -WA sell a separate upgrade sprue, which contains futuristic weapons (laser rifles and autoguns/shotguns), gas masks with hoses, and other bits. This is good for turning any kit into an Imperial Guard kit (good suggestions might be the Afghan Tribesmen for some alternative Tallarn, WWI German Infantry for use as Kriegsmen, or Late Roman Soldiers for a bootleg version of the Severan Dominate). The sprue also has bionic arms, which is good for any army (honestly, even if you use a different Death Fields force, grabbing some sprues to pepper the force with augments can be a good idea). -The only special weapon the Cannon Fodder comes with is the plasma gun. Many Guard armies only really need that (well, that and the melta gun, which the Female Cannon Fodder set will contain). But it is an important point to consider when buying into it. If you need other weapons, you'll either need to take them from other Death Fields sets (the boxes usually have ~4 special weapons options per sprue), or from other bits sellers (Victoria Miniatures or Anvil Industries come to mind). It's also worth noting that the Cannon Fodder set(s) do not have chainswords (the Les Grognards boxes do), though the Female box will have knife options. -My personal idea for the Cannon Fodder box(es) is to create an army inspired by the roleplaying game Paranoia. The army would be the cloned soldiers from an isolated planet on the edge of Imperium space, living in a high tech complex run by an insane AI. (I have my own ideas for why the Abominable Intelligence hadn't been discovered and destroyed, though investigations into it would be a major justification for battles unto itself). The various units in the army would be color-coded, from Red Conscripts up to Blue Company Commanders (anything above or below that would fall outside what would be included in a front line force). As expendable bodies, the clones would be sent wherever the Imperium needed them, and indeed could be cloned and ready to fight in short order due to the complex's Dark Age of Technology cloning and memory implantation capabilities (something "Friend Computer" keeps proprietary, and that AdMech is eager to get ahold of). Since the "Paranoian Troubleshooters" could be thrown at problems with abandon, and the planet of Paranoia itself being a fringe world far from normal supply lines, the planet is granted broad tolerance and autonomy, so long as the resources and clones keep coming.

Wargames Atlantic is one of the best companies making miniatures right now IMO. The thing they need to do is release a set of rules for Death Fields. Untill they do, there is One page rules, and just old edition of warhammer40k with old imperial guard codexs

@@pietrayday9915 i have that too, but its purely skirmish, i want something for more of an army. I originally started getting WA models FOR stargrave though hehe. One rule set I think could be good, but would need customizing is Dragon Rampant. It is fantasy though so I would need to change the weapons some to make it more fot sci-fi. I really think it could work too though.

These boxes are very interesting, you should check if they're compatible with Stargrave/Frostgrave ones, so one could always mix them. One thing that puzzles me is the lack of gear/combat kits in the"cannon fodder" box, perhaps it's remediable with Anvil Industry's/Pig Iron's stuff, the latter has also a good choice of heads/helmets. With a bit of GS you can add body armours too.👍😁

Wargames Atlantic just release an extra options sprue for them
@pietrayday9915
@pietrayday9915 2 года назад
They are absolutely compatible with Stargrave, Frostgrave, Oathmark, and older modular (pre-Sigmar) Warhammer kits (and maybe later kits as well), as well as Great Eswcape's Dead Man's Hand western gunslingers, Wargames Atlantic's historical figures, Mantic's hard plastic fantasy (and probably also sci-fi and post-apocalypse figures), and most other modular 28mm plastic sci-fi, fantasy, and historical model kits. They also mix-and-match well with Reaper Bones fantasy and Chronoscope figure, to add more variety or to fix floppy swords and spears in the soft Bones plastic. What that means is that you can mix Wargames Atlantic's sci-fi stuff with (for example) Great Escape's western gunslingers to build some Firefly/Serenity style space desperados, or mix fantasy bits with sci-fi guys for a Star Wars style space fantasy; I remember someone mentioning mixing Wargames Atlantic's Afghan fighter bits with sci-fi bits for a sci-fi warband inspired by Dune, I saw someone else mix WGA's "Grognard" trenchcoat bodies with WGA's WWI German gasmasks and helmets and some sci-fi weaponry to make sci-fi/pulp stormtroopers, and I've mixed some sci-fi bits with Oathmark's "goblins"/orcs to create some "space orc" guys reminiscent of old sci-fi space villains like Romulans or Klingons! The result is that we're looking at a sort of golden age of sci-fi/fantasy gaming, where we have more options than ever for creating imaginative new armies, factions, and character models for wargaming and RPGs. And as J. Bones mentions, WGA recently released a "Death Fields Accessory Sprue 1" of sci-fi style bits that are likewise compatible with all of the above, with additional sprues in the series looking like a sure thing if the first one is popular enough (and it looks like it might be!) Other WGA sci-fi sets - such as the "Grognard Accessory and Command" set - include even more bits that would be compatible with the Cannon Fodder (and any of the above), including heavy weaponry, radios, and other gear. WGA also has a a "Cannon Fodder 2" set in the works, which looks like it will certainly include some female Cannon Fodder characters, along with a variety of new bits such as mechanical arms, binoculars, and other gear that didn't appear in the first (no doubt experimental) Cannon Fodder set. On top of that, WGA has teased what looks like a combat-armored sci-fi soldier kit that was probably loosely inspired by Starship Troopers and Aliens, which will surely mix-and-match even more gear and weapon options with the Cannon Fodder set. One would have liked to have seen a little more variety of weapons and non-combat gear in earlier WGA model sets, but it looks like future kits will include more options, with lots of variety for mxing-and--matching. On the bright side, what kits like the Cannon Fodder and Lizard Men lack in variety of options, they more than make up for in value: a box of 30 at close to a dollar and change a figure! At that price, you can buy extra, and trade the ones you don't want away to friends for their leftover sci-fi bits and unwanted minis - everyone in your gaming group wins! :)

Sounds like a great idea - try raiding some Frostgrave cultist and/or Warhamer Flagellant sets for some of the fantasy cultist bits, there might be a little modeling or hand-waving needed to work around the different clothing styles, but they should mix-and-match nicely otherwise, for some really cool cultist conversions! (I'm thinking the Flagellant heads, such as the faces locked in iron masks, and bits like the arms in stocks or ringing bells or carrying torches, might go really well with these guys, while the Frostgrave cultist heads in hoods or leather masks, holding jagged knives and swords and crossbows would likewise mix really well into a rag-tag band of space-cultists, perhaps reminiscent of the "Reavers" from Firefly/Serenity!)

I didn't see the context of the edit, but "fetish" might also work as well, considering fantasy and sci-fi's tendency toward large, heaving, assets barely contained behind skimpy chainmail bikinis, tight leather straps, skin-tight micro-mini-dresses, high-heeled boots of dubious practicality... Which can be part of the fun of classic and pulp sci-fi/fantasy, and I absolutely approve: classic incarnations of the likes of Dejah Thoris, Red Sonja, Stella Star (Starcrash), Emma Peel, Wonder Woman, Princess Leia, Xena and Gabrielle, Doctor Who's Leela, Princess Aura, and so on are a big part of the charm of classic fantasy and science-fiction! But i absolutely agree: it's nice to get some minis to work with that are wearing more restrained costumes more suitable for a gaming in mixed company - there's a time and a place for everything, including the chainmail bikinis :)

I'm not familiar with the reference, but that sounds exactly like the backstory that WGA gives for their Cannon Fodder set - the deliberately vague and sketchy Death Fields setting is built around the idea that extra-dimensional aliens have a sport they enjoy that involves abducting human armies from across history and the galaxy to fight battles to the death in arenas for their amusement: "CANNON FODDER: These are the dregs of the Death Fields sport: the washouts, the mental cases, the warriors who just can't cut it or the teams whose strategy, training, or cunning have fallen behind new, younger franchises... These are also the one final chance for an owner to profit. Cobbled together into a horde and given basic weaponry, the typical Cannon Fodder bout is an ugly display of sheer numbers thrown at a standard roster team. Defeat is an almost foregone conclusion, but not always, and audiences often root for these men, women, and beings sent to fight to a final, Real Death."
