Les Grognards are a range of multi-part plastic miniatures from Wargames Atlantic themed around classic French regiments throughout history with a little sci-fi flair. Easy to assemble and with plenty of weapons options, they're a neat alternative source of infantry for wargamers! READ MORE:
The core box of infantry can be found here: wargamesatlant... A second box of heavy weapons and command options has also just come out, meaning there's even more choice if you wanted to make a full-sized army of these guys!
The colour scheme on the box is reminiscent of Napoleonic infantry and the smart blue and white of their uniform, where I thought the Adrian helmets might be better complimented by a WW1-inspired choice. In the end, the look I've gone for here is reminiscent both of the old horizon blue Great War uniforms with a touch of Death Korps of Krieg about their equipment, showing just one way in which you can tweak historical inspiration to your own ends with these cool figures.
If I had a complete box with the bearskin hats I can imagine these guys would make amazing stand-ins for Vostroyan-style infantry in smart red uniforms and bronze plate, and there are plenty of spare heads in the kits which - I'm told! - fit well with a range of plastic WW2 infantry kits from Warlord Games and similar. Adrian helmets would make appearances on French troops wearing both British and American uniform throughout the stages of the Second World War as the men of France fought their way back to the homeland and pushed Nazi forces all the way to Berlin, and a few spare plastic helmets would make for a neat conversion opportunity!

They look “trenchy” without looking anachronistic. Great models and awesome paint job!

I have been watching you paint for over a year now, and I am still amazed at how easy you make it. If I have learned one thing from you: a colour plan is 80% of the battle. Keep doing what you're doing! You're awesome!

Thank you kindly! The funny thing is that I still struggle - after years, so many years! - when I'm halfway through a paint job. Despite knowing exactly how a colour's going to look once I'm finished with it, I still balk when it's not done and it doesn't look right, and my brain is telling me, "Oh that's awful, that's going to look terrible!" ...then I hold my nerve, throw on the Agrax and job's a good 'un. ;D

I bought a sprue of these guys on ebay to make a conversion of some Vostroyans and was so impressed. I also managed to use some of the spare heads to make some rough rider conversions i was already working on look more like some awesome Hussar style cavalry. Now though i'm tempted to buy a full box to make some WWI style infantry, not necessarily for my Astra Militarum army but just because they look awesome.

Run them as Concripts. Would look different on the table than your regular Cadians/Catachans/etc. (these narrow tables in 9e mean that the chance of troops getting jumbled on the table is a real possibility)

I actually found these minis by complete accident in my local hobby store (which has no GW stuff :c) and I fell in ABSOLUTE LOVE with them

It was by pure chance that I stumbled on to them online again, myself, and remembered I'd lucked upon that spare sprue a while back. Definitely got my eye on them for some projects over the Christmas period.

@@SonicSledgehammerStudio They might make a great basis for Guard conversions, do you think the bits in this kit would fit cadians or vice versa? I've never built any Guard models, I would love to hear your opinion, Best wishes!

I'm not entirely sure if they're completely compatible, but I've seen a couple folks mention using them for conversions. It sounds like the parts would fit well enough, I've just not tried it myself.

Just bought myself a pack of these- was about to start a Cadian army in sort of a WW1 colour scheme, and then thought "hang on... why am I doing that when these exist?!" Really looking forward to them arriving, and I'm currently looking into tank proxies to give the whole army a very diesellpunk look. Also, the array of heads looks perfect for making character models without having to buy different distinct models. very cool. Reminds me of getting the old plastic Guardsman box of 36 minis for a tenner and being able to build a platoon of three squads and command section really easily and cheaply. Happy days!

There's something about a bit of grime and dirt on a greatcoat that helps ground the whole miniature. Funnily enough, I can never bring myself to do it on a miniature that's wearing trousers, but the seasoned campaigner in a battered old greatcoat definitely needs a little dirt!

very nice. I was expecting you to paint the coat lining a different colour. I could see that coat being green on one side and white on the other for a reversible look
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 3 года назад
If I were planning on spending a little more time on them, there's all sorts you could do with the turnbacks and similar. Reversible coat would be one thing; a lighter blue or something on the inside could work, too. For an army to get out and see action ASAP, I'll spare the extra detail where I can! ;D

How well would these work with Anvil Industries heads? I'm thinking the Ushanka heads would turn these into a pretty nice Valhallan guardsman.
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 3 года назад
The joint at the base of the head and the socket it fits in is almost identical to the size and fit of the Cadian neck joint, so the Anvil heads would need a little filing underneath to fit flush on these bodies. Though, that being said, it's a hell of a lot easier to clip down a little plastic than having to green stuff and bulk out extra necks instead!

The mini is really cool and the colors fit very well, it's perfectly grim :D For the pronounciation you can try as if it would be written "Groniar" ("i" pronounced as in "pizza", "d" & "s" silents), it's pretty close in french ;)

I have a random question. I use a nail polish shaker for my paints but it's noisy. If I use it how long will the paint stay mixed for? Can I do it then use it later when the kids go to bed?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio 3 года назад
You ought only need to give your paints a really thorough shake like that if they've been sitting for a couple of weeks. Once they're mixed thoroughly, you should be able to just pick up a pot and give it a few seconds shaking by hand. You can skip the shaker for paints you use regularly - let the kids rest. ;D
