It is very simple: If Warhammer 40k was still satirizing everything right wing, the Imperium would be in its current state BECAUSE of their religious devotion, their xenophobia, bigotry religious and racial. When in actuality, the Imperium is in its current state because it hasn't fully healed from the wounds of the Horus Heresy, and their zealotry and bigotry are the only things keeping the threat of Chaos and Xenos at bay... One thing I find interesting about 40K is how talent works in 40k. Talent seems to be the most important thing in 40K if you're born talented enough the only thing that can stop you is someone born more talented than you. On top of this there seems to be no way for for characters who aren't extremely talented to become extremely talented. So 40k as an setting is basically a big game where a bunch of super talented individuals go to war with each other using anyone that's the last talented as tools for their war. Which think is pretty interesting I wonder what message games workshop is trying to send with this if any at all.

I'd say Warhammer is inherently human. Warts and all. Where that might fall a little more to the right of centre is the fact, at least in my estimation, that acceptance of humanity as flawed is regarded as a more right wing position. Not sure I fully agree with that position but it would certainly support the idea that WH40K could be regarded as right wing. Johnthans Heights moral foundation theory is a good way to state 40k is right wing. According to there are certain values that determine whether someone is right wing or left wing. If someone cares more about fairness then they are left leaning. But to be right leaning you have to have a near equal spread across all the values. Two of these values are loyality and purity, something the imperium of man has allot of. Fairness amoung all the factions is a low priority. The 40k universe is right wing because it aims for different moral pillars then any tradtionally left wing work.

I’m not sure how many people get this but it dose not seem to be touch on enough in this video. Warhammer is not right wing. It’s a satire of various social, political and societal aspects. Satire is the important part here. At no point is the warhammer setting glorifying or endorsing any of the classically more right wing elements featured in its expansive lore. In fact it’s actively trying to show how bad things like authoritarian, imperialism, religious nationalism and many other elements are. Yes the imperium of man is very right wing. But don’t get confused they are also the bad guys.

warhammer 40k is not right wing, the Imperium is. They/them could do a game called "Chaos Marine" where the player could fight for "trans activism" in name of Slaanesh. But the Imperium is very much right wing. Also the Ethos of the setting is seriously right wing, as DC used to have a Right Wing Ethos and Marvel used to have a left wing Ethos, and now both are simply shit. LOL

The question is how such a subculture could even form in our midst. Are they the product of our efforts - the consistent result of our own teachings? The very introduction to the setting tells you that this setting is dark and for many people the very definition of Grimdark, the Emperor is stuck on the Golden Throne of Terra and 1000 souls are sacrificed each day so humanity can roam the stars, to be a normal man is to be a target for several fates worse than death and the Imperium of Man has suffered 10,000 years of decadence since the Horus Heresy and through all this madness we are nothing more than the entertainment to laughing gods of chaos that love to make everything worse. There’s not progress or acceptance, technology is stagnant and innovation is forbidden and the only thing that everyone knows is the endless war for survival against the hordes of aliens that come from the void of space.

I will take up the alliance one As a Necron man, I know different dynasties have different attitudes towards the living. The Imperium could ally with those who see them as potential hedges against other threats, like rival dynasties, as well as the other way around. For example, the Tyranids avoid Necron Tomb Worlds with a frightening degree of accuracy. Since the Tyranids are the largest threat, then allying with the proper tomb worlds, and allowing them to live on their own in exchange for them to exterminate a Tyranid hive fleet or two, makes a ton of sense. Especially since the Mechanicus wants to touch all of the Necron's shiny things, then this would give them an excuse to "help" the Necrons by "rescuing" down Necron ships.

GW did poorly with their writing when they tried to make a setting of "the Imperium is in a crap situation because it's a decaying fascist state relying on misinterpreted dogma desperately trying to cling to a long-past golden age to try to adapt to the current times." with a side of "The citizens turn to chaos because the imperium treats them so poorly that they seek any alternative because unsurprisingly fascism bad" and they then decide to have any rebellion against the Imperium's terrible rule have Chaos as a root cause rather than planets rising up against their tyrannical overlords, rewrite the Tau from a more tolerant and functional group that acts as a foil to the awful Imperium with better ideas, living conditions and tolerance that suffers from being too small to do anything significant to making them evil mind control, ending up with the Imperium being right so much of the time that the xenos are true evil and should be exterminated. Like yeah if they did make treaties more frequently with the Eldar and Tau to take on real threats (like Chaos, Tyranids, Necrons, and Orks) they'd free up more resources to actually do something for their situation by adapting slightly, but GW really splits its writing for a middle ground between the Imperium being a stupid system (which they are) and being somewhat justified in their actions.

Left/ right economically and authoritarian/ libertarian socially are different things. The imperium could be left wing: everybody is required to contribute and live their life for the imperium. This is not right wing in the way that libertarians are People forget that Nazi party was the Nationalist Socialist Party - it was authoritarian, fascist and socialist at the same time.
