I mean they’d have to be stupid *not* to put their flagship characters in a starting box. Though I wish they came with more than just ultramarine transfers.
This box set looks pretty cool. I'd love to get back into 40k, I was a 3rd edition player, back when Games Workshop wasn't charging cocaine prices for plastic minis...
i honestly love the new dread and I'm totally getting one or two for my blood angels, but to me the most exciting thing by FAR is the screamer-killer, im so hyped for my favorite tyranid to get an actual model
Looking into getting this box, as I'm brand new to W40k. However I just wanted to say that I love your enthusiasm and how you broke down the units in the box. Thanks for the great breakdown.
As someone who will only buy one box this year, wants to get into tenth, doesn't own any of the SM models or equivalents (no termies, vanguard etc...) And wants to get into Tyranids I'm super hype for this box. The price seems legit given I'll be buying it from my FLGS at a discount and in the face of the insane price increases lately.
@@fateweaver9844 yeah I already have enough of a backlog that I don't really need two, And I mostly just paint I don't really have enough time to play more than occasional games for fun. That all said I would totally buy two if I felt like I could ever get through it
lol…GW trained you into thinking $250 is a good deal cause it ain’t $350. Everything they drop is overpriced considering if you had a 3D printer, you can pump out the same thing for like 5% of the price
I very carefully scalpeled away my Terminator sergeant's sword arm away and put on the awesome open-handed power fist from the assault intercessors kit. It looks awesome! I also drilled out the sword hand from the Captain and gave him a comically small-for-his-size Thunder Hammer, but since my successors are artisans I think it fits pretty well. I had a hoot with this box set, and being the first one I could buy with adult money it will hold a very warm place in my heart for years :)
I've been wanting to play 40k for years and was getting ready to start a Tyranid army when the new edition was announced. I bought a Kill Team box this weekend to start practicing painting, but was figuring I'd have to drop $300 on the 10th Ed. box. Hopefully they don't sell out before I can order one.
The build-a-bear LT from the Strikeforce Augustus Box didn't get combi weapons, he's got power sword, power fist, plasma pistol, heavy bolt pistol, and the bolf rifle (pick your flavor). But anyway, I look forward to this box as I'm still building on my marine army, as it's very all over the place as I've only gotten into them with 10th, always been more of an Ork player, and I've been eyeballing Tyrannids, so this looks like a good start lol
With the Librarian you could paint him as a show piece. Then put him in a completion and see what happens. That way you can say not for the list but also not gone to waste! The nids look so so good!!!!!!
Missing Indominus was the reason I never got back into 40K again. Necrons being one of my favorite race (new design). Once I missed it, I knew it was over considering how overprice everything is.
I remember I felt like one of the few that defeated the bots when 9th preorder came out and I was quick as hell at checkout to get mine. I promised a friend we would split and I made sure to be prepared.
I care and hearing this makes me happy... One thing I hope they introduce is more of the variety we used to have with the firstborns... such as the helmets, backpacks etc. that you mention! Every single suit of armour being identical takes away from the idea that the armours are relics that are added to iteratively over the millenia.
I like this box more than indomitus. I will definitely want that. Great tyranid minis that I would love to collect and paint. Plus a lot of miniatures I would like to have in my dark angels. Maybe I don't want all of them (e.g. Infernus Squad) but I'm glad there are no stupid primaris with T-shirt launchers and those boring intercessors
Apart of me feels like the choice to have space marines and tyranids in this box is a marketing strategy for when the 2nd space marine game comes out. But that just my theory
I feel like a different (left) shoulderpad on the infernus marines would break up the silhouette nicely. some large heatshield facing in the direction of the enemy or something.
The reason he has a power sword was that old 40k rules made power fists fight last on a charge, and “power weapons” just blanked normal saves. So you took a power sword so that on a charge you could kill dudes before they started killed guys with a power fist back.
Alright, so you can't compare the new box to the Horus Heresy 2.0. Sure, they were advertised at $300, but nobody I know paid anywhere near that price. Our retailers had trouble moving them, so they were selling for an average of $200 and I saw quite a few sold for $150. $245 is way too high an entry point for any game.
When it comes to how these units will be priced individually it offers good value here in the UK. The box will be about £140. Realistically The Terminators will be 38, the flame throwers about 30, the heroes will be around 18 to 25 each, and the new dread kit will be at least 35. That's the price of the box covered.
Onto the Starcraft comparisons, I actually really like the design of Heavy Intercessors...probably because they remind me so much of Terrans from Starcraft. Sure, the Leagues of Votann, but I just did the design. That and their heavy bolters. Liked them better than Agressors (I don't have any Terminators yet).
I say more like primaris hormagaunt. 3rd and 4th ed lore suggested that Von Ryan leapers are derived from hormagaunts. Plus, they look a lot like 2nd ed hormagaunts.
Already talked to my LGS about a copy. Splitting the box with another player in my group who is diehard Nids. Though to be honest I’d have just bought the box anyway because those bugs look so good.
I am not a Warhammer player, but I still watch every video. I’m curious though, how many 9th ed. codexes are now completely obsolete, and how much money does an average player “waste” on codexes by the time a new edition is released?
What's an average player? If you own one army it was a single book becoming obsolete, maybe 2 or 3 if you used supplements. Most "average" players have been in the game a while and know to use Wahapedia and Battlescribe so they don't spend any money on rules. And... It's a new edition, every single book is obsolete now.
I do too have black templars and i have a problem with the librarian , can someone tell me what to do with the librarian because he looks so cool that i want him in my army .I was thinking about kitbashing him but i dont know what to turn him into😢
We're missing the ancient shown in the trailer And for the dreadnougth i would like to 3D print like tank wheels and make him look like a mecha from the ''CHROME HOUNDS'' game
The cards are something you need to have to play missions unless you just want to play the same one over and over so it’s pretty good that there in the box
so, I was thinking about kit bashing the librarian into a Chaplin. just give him some candles and some of the other bits from the bt upgrade sprue. On the other hand i have been thinking about starting dark angels so i might just paint him up
@@ruslanhoncharenko2179 That might be for UK, when it hits the USA and CAN shelves its a whole other story. In Canada this box set is going to hugely vary in price depending on what province yea live in cause tax rate's are a huge factor, weather you buy it from a family ran store or GW outlet, then shipping costs (even though GW covers these but haven't ordered from them directly in a long while). If I were to order this from GW going by Google's rough estimates, add tax, I'm looking at 382.26 CAD for this item so I would have to put aside 400 CAD too cover an google market roughness. And of course nearest GW is 3 hour drive 1 way, lol.
I also like your comment about the dread.... I wonder if its not so much the feet but how long the legs are? I mean the old one was so much shorter and squat. Maybe GW upper management has a think for long tall blondes?
As somebody with a good amount of old gaunts, i am not a big fan of what they did to the new ones. I feel like it's a big departure from the old design. I may be mistaken, i hope they will blend well with old models. I want to add to my collection, not replace the most painfull things to paint.
Hey new to the hobby and still didn’t get any army by now. Does it make Sense to buy a Box from the 8th or 9th Edition when the 10 Edition is out know ?
HHHHOOOOOLLLLLDDDDD OOOOONNNN, the space marine half is going to be a combat patrol? my dark angel combat patrol was a dreadnaught, chaplain and 8 guys!
The launch box may not be very pose-able, I believe they said the launch box will not require glue to assemble so I would assume more push fit things...
I recently started getting into 40k and I always wanted to know what the pieces looked like! Do all purchasable kits come with these many characters? Or is it like a deal that they’re making? Also any tips on what first army to build ?
Are new versions more of a marketing stream than anything to do with gaming? IE if they made an edition that the vast majority of players where happy with, would they still release a new edition along the same time line as before, could they turn down that amount of revenue?I have only done some painting so far, Love the mini's /art /stories etc but never played, been tempted though. I thought they would have figured out some form of "golden" rule set that players where mostly happy with with by now and left it at that.
To begin with, I wasnt going to bother. I have enough Marines, what with Indomitus & Age of Darkness. And I dont really care much for the Tyranids and i dont now anyone to go halves with. So i figured ill pass. But this box (at least the marine half) looks insane. And suddenly i want the Marine Half. One thing i wonder if they did purposefully was if you do have Indomitus, you already have a Chaplain, a Judicicar and an flag bearer. So this one, they went Apothecary and Librarian, didnt double up on any of the specific characters with roles. So getting both would give me a decent sized army with little worry about treading on the toes of what i already have (other than 2 captains and 2 lieutenants.) But add that to Age of Darkness, If you got all three boxes, it doesnt matter if you havent bought anything else, you have a HUGE army. And thats what i want to do now. I'll need a few tanks. I think thats all. With JUST these three boxes, i will have a HUGE army with troops, veterans and HQ sorted. Few tanks for Heavy Support and Big Guns and ill have a sweet army for a very reasonable price, and I think GW knew that when they released these boxes. They knew people would buy these boxes because they complement each other well but still leave room for you to need to buy just that little bit more (tanks or a primarch or something.)
Upside down mags are a thing IRL, been there since WW2.Are you really correct about the price? Since in terms and conditions and Auspex video says 150£ which equivalent of 200$
GW denied it for years but you are spot on about starcraft... best thing blizzard ever did was poach Andy chambers to write and direct all of the zerg in SC2.
Should of been Guard vs Nids. Definelty the most iconic 40k matchup. Marines are 😴 The new nids look awesome though. I am glad they are finally getting some love!
You must be new to 40k. Guard vs Nids has never been a famous match up unless you count a few Catachans being ambushed by a lictor (which is 99% of all depictions of Tyranids vs Guard). Guard vs Orks Marines vs Tyranids Eldar vs Dark Eldar Chaos vs Everyone
I wish there was some option to jsut get the army you want, forced sharing of half of your box is meh (there prolly aren't many people who collect both of those armies compared to those who collect one or same faction)
Good news! There is that option! All you have to do is not buy the launch box! You can buy all sorts of boxes that are just one faction in a bundle, or you can get them one unit at a time. The launch box is just so deeply discounted they hope you end up starting a new army because of the guys in it you don’t have anything for yet.
I started SM with Indomitus and now I'll add new units to that force. Once in a while (3 years to be specific) one can buy new space marines. So if you want Tyranids and dont mind to start new army that will sit on the shelf or in a cupboard just buy the box.
The new Tyranid beasties look cool. The blurb on the Neurogaunts was equal parts silly & dumb “Neurogaunts are a variant strain of gaunt, that share a symbiotic relationship with the parasitic neurocytes that cling to their backs”…GW it’s either parasitic or symbiotic, can’t be both. Words mean things.
I think nurgle, slanesh, eldar and thier variants are the only factions I’m not interested in, which says alot considering there are so many factions and I basically like almost all of them, it makes it so hard to make one army consistently
Arms on the dreadnaught look like poop (this style is the best), although I do agree the legs always sucked. Looks like the bad guy on robo cop. They need bulky shields/armored legs to go with these weaponized arms.
