It really conveys that feeling of being willing to give your life willingly for a cause that might be lost, just for the chance that there's some hope. At least when portrayed like in this video.
One of the things I like a lot about the Warhammer 40k artwork done, and a lot of credit is due to the artists for this and making it pretty consistent across the board, is how they tend to resemble a renaissance style of depicting the romance of warfare. Despite us knowing how gritty and dark it actually is lore wise. I think it would be accurate to say this is what a remembrancer would create to present to imperial citizens, just like many artists did back in our own history portraying famous battles and events.
You know I never thought of it that way, but now I cannot unsee it. You're 100% correct. It really taps into that primal recognition of the rebirth of western civilization after Rome's fall.
You know, they don't have to show what it actually looks like, although they do many times. The essence of true art is to catch the underlying meaning and to show that. And I think, that Warhammer artists are a group of real ones, with real talent and message.
Nice seeing one of my favorite quotes from The Master of Mankind at the start. "And in a sunless realm the sun rose at last." Gives me goosebumps every time I read it.
That chapter of the book and that sentence in particular was the main reason why I became interested in this universe. Goosebumps just remembering the arrival of the anathema.

Then the Anathema arrives and the tables turn. I think that was the book that made me realize that Chaos doesn't just see the Emperor as an enemy, but fear him.

Having a prosthetic leg since age 5, and feeling singled out for it all the time, I never really found anyone I could get attached to... that is, until the first time I heard the words “Flesh is Weak.” That opened up a door in my mind and imagination that sounds and looks just like this, only it’s an army of Iron Hands terminators marching into a maelstrom of conflict, knowing that despite all they had lost, all that had been broken, they still have the strength to see their duty done. Just to add: 1. The main reason the Empire is the best option is because they are unified. Under any other system, cracks will appear and collapse would be inevitable. 2. The enemies out there are fucking insane. I remember a VOD of the TTRPG Only War. The players ended up like the movie Predator '87, but they all died.

This entire charade was perhaps just another act of manipulation to goad him into action. To do what was necessary to save the Imperium both from within and without. Had his father anticipated this outcome? Had he already seen this happening millennia ago? The Emperor was powerful enough to read his mind without him realizing, was he doing so now? Was anything he had said actually true? Was he always this cruel or did his entombment cause him to be this way? Every possibility made him angrier and he turned around and started walking towards the gate bringing an abrupt end to their conversation. As he opened it, he looked back and asked one final question. “Why do you still fight?” No answer came forth. The energy in the room had already begun to dissipate. He could see his father atop the golden throne but could no longer feel his presence. "ANSWER ME!" Shouted Guilliman alerting the Custodes who began to rush towards the gate to restrain him. "WHY DO YOU STILL FIGHT?" As the guards closed in around him, a piercing light stopped them all dead in their tracks and Roboute Guilliman, lord of Ultramar, received the answer he craved for. Six words were burnt into every fiber of his being. Six words that formed a phrase so trivial, so insignificant, yet it had ensured humanity’s continued existence for ten thousand years amongst an uncaring cosmos. The words had borne witness to Ferrus charging the traitors on Isstavan and had compelled Sanguinius to face Horus aboard the Vengeful Spirit. They had seen the lowliest guardsman hold the line against insurmountable odds and were a lesson that Space Marines taught themselves over and over. They were a grim reminder for each man, woman, and child of the Imperium of what was required of them. Fitting then, that the Master of Mankind spoke the same words he expected humanity to live by. @@paul-antonywhatshisface3954 Sorry but I really disagree. The Emperor was not ever “right”. He was a single minded autocrat who thought his vision was the best and anyone who disagreed should die. He ruled through might not the fact that he was truly humanity’s shepherd. True he had good intentions and did great things for humanity and if everything went to plan the imperial truth might have worked. Likely his first crusades were vital for humanity’s survival. But I think he was just a man, a strong man and a mighty man, but still someone vulnerable to mistakes especially that of pride. Read the short story The Last Church. It really shows how he refuses to acknowledge the deeper morals and compassion that humanity thrives on and lives by in favor of practical brutality to ensure his vision of humanity.

It’s a horrifying concept that in Warhanmer 40k humanity is always facing a cosmic threat which is either a bunch of demons or a bunch of otherworldly creatures, yet in the end they persevere through these and come out as the last one standing, long live humanity.

There is something really powerful about the angelic and apotheotic (that's a word right?) imagery with the imperium of man. Like, it's totally fucked, but that is something very powerful, just the celebration and idolisation of humanity, the human spirit and the human figure being portrayed as divine. Reminds me of a lot of soviet art and sculpture.
I am a strong supporter of human supremacy. I was born long before space exploration, but I hope our descendants will be strong and overcome all the trials against the darkness that lies beyond Terra and not be tamed by the xenos. That's why I like Warhammer 40k; it may be a dark and brutal universe, but it represents human supremacy and adaptability in all circumstances. Reading so many comments about the horrible and endless era of slaughter and war that humanity lives in the fortieth millennium, I have come to a terrifying reflection. What will happen when the storm of death, ruin and destruction finally ends? when humanity can rest, when the threats of the Empire are finally stopped. Will the legendary Gray Knights, demon hunters, become relics of the past? The Astartes, warriors who only know war as their home, will they be needed in this new era of peace, when there are no longer wars to fight and enemies to defeat? Does humanity need weapons when calm is the only thing on the horizon? Will worlds like Krieg or Armageddon be able to live in this era they could never imagine?... Peace. Just knowing the conflict and suffering makes him unable to know if the Imperium would be able to live a life, when it was only seen as an easy-to-replace currency. I doubt that he can adapt to such an abrupt and unknown change.
40k has unironically made me want a united humanity. Why do we divide and fight amongst ourselves over petty things when there could be bigger threats out there!? How would the world react if hostile xeno's showed up in current day?!

That is the lowest possible amount too, if the quote is considered true it references billions, not the 1 billion i based my math on. My number is the lowest possible amount based on that info.

In its youth the Imperium seemed as if it was to dominate the universe, However that dream is now lost. Many Xeno's and Gods of Chaos challenge humanity but, humanity shall rise back from the ashes no matter how many times it gets striked down by the horrors of this universe.
The only philosophy that makes sense in 40k universe for me is Khorne’s. Kill, Maim, Burn. Screw chaos united. For me there is only Khorne. all the other factions over complicate the state of the 40k universe. Just kill it all and then there is peace once again. Disclaimer: Real life is nothing like the hell-scape that is the 40k universe. Thusly, these beliefs only exist in that fictional setting. I’m fine… really lol
