Its really nice to hear ToW is doing well from launch, gives me hope for the future. Here in Hong Kong, the local GW shop, the shopkeeper lights up if you ask him about ToW (+20 years of collecting Bretonnians), he says lots of people are so excited and its already more popular than AoS, despite ToW kits are hard to come by.
Oh that’s so cool to hear that it’s doing well over in Hong Kong as well! Love hearing that, hope you get some games in soon if you’re looking for them
I did manage to kill a duke on pegasis recently with my Doombull. He had slugskin and bedazzling helm for -2 to hit, also with 4+ armour save and 5+ ward from talisman of protection. In the challenge the lord didn't do any damage and my doombull was able to kill him on the return. He was also already wounded from viletide so that helped
I went to small local 1250 store tournament in Woking. Great atmosphere and truly sporting people pressnt who genuinely just love the game. Off to my next one (1500) soon. Sounds like you had a similarly good experience with people playing.
Thanks a lot for the run down !!! I really enjoyed it :) I'm going to the one dayer in May at the WhW with Bretonnian as well so I'll try to make the lady proud. Cheers.
Glad you had a great time! I’m hopefully going to attend an Old World event in early June; only a single day 3-rounder, but I think that might be my limit anyway 😂
Didn’t get a chance to say Hello unfortunately but was cool to see your army in person. My first ever Fantasy event (didn’t play back in the day), and I echo your thoughts on everyone being in great spirits, I had an amazing weekend. Managed to place 13th somehow despite losing almost all my games at my local club learning the rules 😂
The beastmen in general are also actually overpowered probably do to the individual units just being better than they were an eighth. Maybe they were compensating. But also because of the changes to movement in this Edition that make it more like editions in the past. They can also bring lists that literally have almost no rank and flank units and are just pure MSU/single entity spam that guarantees you're almost never getting advantageous charges off and you're playing by their rules. Razorgors need to be in special units category, and dragon ogres should have to be taken in units of two just like the ogre mournfang Cavalry, which they are better than and cheaper than
5 attacks of killing blow / monster slayer gives you a 44.51% chance of instant deathing anything with a 5+ ward each time. 52.65% vs 6+ ward 59.81% vs no ward Pretty spicy.
I've only managed to paint one unit of Questing Knights, one unit of Pegasus knights and a Grail Reliquae so far... long way to go before a 1500p army. Nice to see Bretonnian lords kicking ass!
@@MediocreHobbies oh really? I am not sure if I can’t all my Bretonnia’s finished before then but I can try! Congratulations on your performance in the tournament and absolutely love your Bretonnian army!
Hi all, I haven’t played Warhammer Fantasy since the 6th edition, how is the new incarnation of the game? Is it similar or is it totally different? Thanks for any responses. Regards!
It’s similar enough that you’d pick it up very quickly, but some of the time consuming elements have been removed to make it easier and smoother to play. I have a few battle reports on the channel, maybe seeing it played would help answer some questions?
I went up against a duke on royal pegasus at a tournament last weekend with my Gnome army (counts as night goblins). I killed the duke with a lucky shot from my doom diver, taking 3 wounds off him. He then died to fanatics a turn or 2 later.
I didn’t think Killing Blow worked on monsters! It only works on infantry and cavalry. He managed to kill the Necrosphinx anyway I assume? EDIT: I realized that he also had the Monster Slayer rule, so no doubt he hit that 6!
That's the same build for a Duke I've gone with. Sirienne's Locket with a 5+ Regen means you aren't easy to hurt. I was considering the Bedazzling Helm though. 2+ save but no Regen, however even a Chaos Lord hits on a 5+! What do you think.
You brought shame to the Lady by not winning that tournament! Shame! No seriously making it to 11th place in a 60 player tournament is fantastic! Well done! That Grail Knight thing comes from older editions. 100% because back then Grail Knights were absolutely superb.
This one is very hard for the duke to deal with: Chaos Lord on Dragon, Ogre Blade and Enchaining Aura, 2 gifts of the gods, shield, mark of Nurgle, and pay-masters coin. You get strikes last vs 5 s7 AP-2 MWD3 Armor Bane 1. At WS7 so hitting you on 4s, wounding on 2s. It's rough
You're not even including the dragon's attacks. So yes, that is basically the most tooled up model you can get right now. It is also, what, 617 points? And the Duke is 361-401 depending on if you want to get more than the Gilded Cuirass on him. If the Duke took the Sirienne's Locket, he is immune to multiple wounds, and getting through 5+/5+/5+ against 5 wounds requires about 40 attacks at 4+ to hit and 2+ to wound. Meanwhile the Duke needs to make about 18 attacks to get one killing blow wound through the 5+ ward on the Chaos Lord. That puts the Lord at 3.6 combats to kill the Duke and very interestingly also 3.6 combats exactly for the Duke to kill the Lord. This gives the edge to the Lord because of strikes last on the Duke. Obviously this is a dice game, so it can swing pretty easily one way or the other, but these are how the average stats math out. That is a huge gamble for the Chaos Lord at barely over a 50% chance to beat a model that is fewer than 2/3 the points, and even if you win, you were locked down for 2 full game rounds and now at best only have 2 more (assuming no combats on round 1) to kill another 200+ points to justify your own cost. *edit: I didn't include mark of Nurgle or armor bane 1 on the chaos lord because I was too lazy. Those both do change the math in favor of the Lord. I didn't recalculate the average combat results, but I was curious with the new numbers to calculate the chance of killing the other in the first round. The Duke has a 21% chance of killing the Lord in the first round of combat, and the Lord has a 0.6% chance of killing the Duke in the first round of combat.
I’m not sure! It obviously makes a big difference but part of the points range might have been to give people a chance to build up to that army when they announced the tournament? Or for timing reasons maybe. I’ve played some 2k games and it makes a lot of difference to the length of games so 1500 points was a lot easier for 5 games over 2 days 😄
I'm liking ToW a lot, but it gives me 5th ed mixed with WAB vibes. The latter I'm enjoying a lot, but the former I'm not 100% sold on. I loved good ol' Herohammer at the time, and still have a lot of nostalgia for it but as a committed 6th edition player I have to say that having (sometimes multiple) 'Lord level' characters kicking around in small points lists gives me the ick (as the kids say), given their propensity to just fucking wreck shit. But it's a tournament, and the point is to win I suppose.
I play Bretonians and have faced other Bretonian armies with tooled up lords. Strangely I have killed a tooled up Bretonian Lord with 30 Men At Arms. He lost by sheer numbers and since I out numbered him more than 2 to 1 - his "fall back in good order" automatically became a flee. Of course I had a knight BSB with the war banner and virtue of empathy in the unit with a grail monk and men at arms champion. When combat was joined he issued a challenge - I accepted with a champion even after overkill I won combat res. His stubborn kicked in. My turn I charged and he challenged again so the grail monk accepted. And again I won by numbers and banners this time he fled and his flee roll was not kind. My men at arms caught and killed him.
@@dbwarhammer You can play zero units or three. I think they are super overpowered right now. On May 5th i will try the following list: ++ Charaktere [898 Pkte.] ++ Duke [396 Pkte.] (Handwaffe, Lance (if appropriately mounted), Heavy armour, Schild, General, Royal Pegasus, Bedazzling Helm, Dawnstone, Virtue of Heroism) Baron [396 Pkte.] (Handwaffe, Lance (if appropriately mounted), Heavy armour, Schild, The Grail Vow, Hippogryph [Barding], Gromril Great Helm, Sirienne's Locket, Virtue of Knightly Temper) Damsel [106 Pkte.] (Handwaffe, Level 2 Wizard, Bretonnian Warhorse, Illusion) ++ Kerneinheiten [564 Pkte.] ++ 5 Mounted Knights of the Realm [141 Pkte.] (Hand weapons, Lances, Shields, Heavy armour, First Knight (champion), Standard bearer, Musiker) 6 Mounted Knights of the Realm [165 Pkte.] (Hand weapons, Lances, Shields, Heavy armour, First Knight (champion), Standard bearer, Musiker) 6 Mounted Knights of the Realm [158 Pkte.] (Hand weapons, Lances, Shields, Heavy armour, First Knight (champion), Standard bearer) 10 Peasant Bowmen [50 Pkte.] (Hand weapons, Longbows, Unarmoured, Skirmishers) 10 Peasant Bowmen [50 Pkte.] (Hand weapons, Longbows, Unarmoured, Skirmishers) ++ Eliteeinheiten [537 Pkte.] ++ 3 Pegasus Knights [179 Pkte.] (Hand weapon, Lances, Shields, Heavy armour, First Knight (champion), Standard bearer) 3 Pegasus Knights [179 Pkte.] (Hand weapon, Lances, Shields, Heavy armour, First Knight (champion), Standard bearer) 3 Pegasus Knights [179 Pkte.] (Hand weapon, Lances, Shields, Heavy armour, First Knight (champion), Standard bearer) --- Erstellt mit "Old World Builder" [old-world-builder.com]
I know you like your old warhammer fantasy and want to complete sets of old minis. Thought I should mention that my local hobby store often trades in old warhammer fantasy models and resells them and some do look a bit rare. Since they do EU wide shipping I could link you the site if you want, their collection of random old warhammer minis is quite impressive.
@@MediocreHobbies well it does seem like it got swallowed by some comment filter :/. But the store is called "Alphaspel" with a Swedish domain. go to "Figurspel," then "Age of Sigmar" and then "Fynd & Begagnat." There you click the faction you want. Condition is often either as seen in the picture or mint. But you're a smart man so you'll figure it out if you really want something :)
With the Duke build how do u feel about changing the 60pts Armour for the 40 helm and have a 2+ save re rolling 1’s instead of 5+ regen plus an extra 20 points
@@MediocreHobbies when I tried taking both, new recruit builder gave me a red exclamation mark. Even though I thought the Duke can take 100 pts of items
Do you have a battle report using the same list? Would love to see that in action. I have a dreadful time trying to keep pegasus knights alive before they can get the charge off 😂
Yeah the Duke and Royal Pegasus combo is just OP. His 360° line of sight being able to evade overruns, hiding amongst Cavalry units, his freaking stat line paired with killing blow and monster Slayer, 2+ save (reroll 1). Everyone talking about dragons, but there are many other overtuned things. Monster slayer/killing blow needs to be changed. Seems like a lame/ lazy rule.
@@MediocreHobbies by your own admission you only lost one of the games due to not realising you needed to sit on an objective. So you should have won that one. 4/5 wins qualifies as an ‘almost autowin’ list for me. And it’s no wonder you’re really enjoying the game, because you’re winning aren’t you? Nothing can kill your Duke, you outclass all the other armies because your stuff can fly, hence why I wouldn’t play this horrendously unbalanced game in a tournament. Lets face it, you won at the ‘buy the army’ stage of play. And you’re a bit rude to boot. I’ll pass on the subscription….
