Wario World - Japanese Version - Black Jewel

Mikey Patchy From what I hear, it’s less about its challenge and more about time, as the Japanese version was released a year later, so I guess they had more time to develop the final boss ^^’

That could happen in a gamecube version of the switch online pack. Just soon as Nintendo is done with N64, since they already added the Japanese version of SM64 on 3D all stars

+Catty Mintgum Yup. It was released shortly after Space World/E3 of 2003 in US, and I assume they released in Europe/Etc out of hope, probably a push because GCN sales weren't very good and there were a lack of games. Probably what caused them to rush the game. I've already mentioned that this version had to of been planned because the music in the second phase of the fight goes unused in our version but it is there. I think the only reason it was released so late in Japan was because they were still working on it and they were probably preparing advertising for game and whatnot, they did even have a promotional items given away with the game. There might even be more reasons behind this, but were never gonna know for sure.

If you roll back the clock and hunt for the old trailers of this game (I believe there are three or four different ones) you can see some differences and changes. It seems like this game kept getting changed too often during development. The core gameplay stayed the same but everything around it got changed. In the end, this game got rushed and pushed badly to get it out there right after E3 (or was it just before e3?)

I guess this is what we get for begging Reggie for Mother 3.

Yeah it's like that for PAL too. Japan got the game nearly a whole year later too, so I bet they took some feedback on the game that was released everywhere else and made some slight adjustments for the japanese release.

+Javier S. I'd rather get a brand new adventure rather than a port, remaster, remake, whatever. Wario World was an okay stepping stone in terms of it's gameplay style. Just inmagine what another 3D title could bring to the table with tons more polish.

I don't think a sequel will happen, because this game is underrated nowadays.

It's possible it might've been based on feedback, Luigi's Mansion was another victim of in-game changes between regions (PAL release came out a year later). Miyamoto stated at the time (for Luigi's Mansion) that fans had complained about it being too easy, so Miyamoto decided to ramp up the games difficulty and that eneded up delaying the game for those outside NTSC regions. There's also a chance that the game was rushed due to e3, it came out extremely shortly after 2003 e3 but held the game back and maybe for promotion purposes in japan. Its hard to say, but I have more content of in-game differences with the japanese Wario World if you want to check out the Cutting Floor Wiki.

US/PAL got the game first, without final touches. Japan got the game a year later. I don't know the reasoning as to why but Luigi's Mansion also had some huge differences with it's PAL release and they got that game a year after the US/Japan release.

They give us the game first, they were unable to add nice finishing touches. It's really not anyone's fault, just time constraints.

He is exactly the same, the only difference with his appearance is when he begins taking damage from spritelings and you when you brawl him head on. So, yes he does have some small extra detail.

It’s probably because they felt cheated that the main threat that created the world they had to fight through was pretty bland when we had to face him. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the game and consider it a cornerstone of my childhood and I don’t consider it as a bad game even now, but seeing this fight, I can’t help but feel cheated too as the young me was looking forward to fighting this guy only to just have to punch crystals and piledrive or throw it.

Japan got their version later

Well, there's a 'Demo' mode that plays at the title screen instead of the opening intro. As far I've hunted there doesn't seem to be anything else. For a speedrun though, this version has some 'fixes' which make it slower to speedrun.

I forgot to mention, I guess there is one other thing but I felt it wasn't worth an upload. I might create a video for it to compare to US version so you guy can see it. In 2-2 (Wonky Circus) there is a sub-level (those underground levels with red jewels) where they re-arranged the blocks in the background into a sun.

Thank you Dangerless. Its stuff like this that I wanted to make sure many can hear it on RU-vid as well and I did see the E3 trailers and you are right, that song was never in the US release of Wario World. Now here me out, I DO like how the final boss looks here and if there was an HD version of the game, they should use THIS version as the base of the HD remake like how The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker was like. Personally, I would love to see more of Treasure doing games like this cause Wario needs more love in the 3D platform games. Also, Nintendo, as a letter to you guys, please remake or port Virtual Boy Wario Land. Cause you guys are now in the perfection hands of 3D with the 3DS. :) Thank you again Dangerless.

Almost a year actually. The international release was in June 2003, while the Japanese one aired in May 2004.

A delayed game is eventually good, a rushed game is rushed forever...unless it was the GameCube era and you're not Japanese. WindWaker? Rushed. This game? Rushed.

That was a tad uncalled for. I was mostly exaggerating for emphasis. The English version is a complete pushover and an anticlimax.

Because Nintendo released our version first. Thus giving them extra time for them.

OR you can softmod your NTSCU Wii and region unlcok it so you can load the ISO for the Japanese version of the game. Hope I'm not 2 months too late.

Actually, yes they could've patched this in later re-releases but that would've been an extremely dirty move at the time and Nintendo wasn't known for doing those things (then anyway)

@@cosmicspacething3474 Well, there wasn't a way to give the game DLC and it hasn't ever been re-released on any modern console (which it'd have to be remastered) so that would've done nothing for the game.

All we can assume is, the developers knew how bad that fight was and since it wasn't out in japan they'd make it up for them. It's all dumb nonetheless. Because the thing is, if you dig into the music files inside the game the second phase fight music is actually in our game just goes unused. So they knew and had plans.

4kids had absolutely nothing to do with this game. In fact, the US and PAL versions came out a year BEFORE the Japanese version. The devs used the delay between versions to improve the final boss.
